"I seriously cannot believe that your father asked a question about valentines day."

Huffing in disbelief, Mega sent a small escaped strand of her hair flying outwards.

Next to her, Carolyn cackled and her eyes glowed with happiness as she responded, "You can’t believe that. I can’t believe the emperor actually responded to the question."

"Maybe he wants to take you on a special date, keep the old flame burning." Scarlet replied

"Oouuuh." Carolyn said and both sisters laughed at their mother who was glaring at them.

"What exactly is valentine’s day?" Fey asked them.

"It’s Justin’s birthday." Scarlet answered.

"Huh!" A confused Carolyn looked at Scarlet. "Today is not Justin’s birthday."

Scarlet snapped her fingers at Carolyn and shook her head. "Oy, have you lost your mind because you will soon be crown princess in waiting and it occupies your thoughts daily? I meant the day, the fourteenth, it will be Justin’s birthday which happens to be valentine’s day."

"Seriously, explain the day." an exhausted Fey pushed her hands out.

A tray of eggs slid across the kitchen counter and went crushing to the floor.

"Watch it." Carolyn shouted at her.

She jumped away to avoid raw eggs landing on her shoes.

"Sorry, sorry, sorry." Fey apologized generously.

A robot butler came over and cleaned up the mess while the sisters stepped to the side and gave it space to work.

Scarlet who was cooking wondered if her sisters were here to help or make a mess. She took a whole fish and dipped in hot oil for frying.

Besides her, Mega was taking fries out from a deep fryer and besides Mega was Emory stirring turning the steaks on the grill over.

The robot butler stepped away and Carolyn returned to her duty while Fey sliced tomatoes for the salad unevenly.

"Remind me why I am adding beer to this mixture." Carolyn said.

"Because it’s called beer butter onion rings." Scarlet answered.

"Make sure Justin doesn’t eat any of them." Emory turned around and reminded Carolyn.

The kitchen was big and they could all work separately to accomplish their tasks in an orderly manner. Something about it’s noisiness today actually made Scarlet happy.

Having a large family was actually fun. Perhaps after having the five little darlings in her womb, lightning would strike again and she would have more. If possible, she would outdo her mother in having children.

"So, will no one explain this valentine’s day thing to me?" Fey asked loudly.

"Check star net." Carolyn replied.

Mega turned around and said, "Oh for heavens sake, it’s a special day in the year when the ancient human couples celebrated and expressed their love to each other. Someone found a text about it in one of the magazines in the King library and shared it on star net so there is some buzz about it."

"That’s it!!" Fey blurted out. "One day for celebrating love. Where is the day for single people to celebrate?"

"Are you single?" Scarlet asked her.

Fey turned her mouth up and pouted.

"Meh!" She answered, and stuck her tongue out childishly.

"Unbelievable." Carolyn shook her head. How was Fey dating when she was this childish?

"Minister Chambers thinks it should be a public holiday and he suggested so two days ago before the house of ministers."

The empress’s voice chimed in on the valentine’s day conversation.

Markay who had come into the kitchen smiled at the women and placed a round hologram projector down.

"Mother wants to hung out with you guys." he said. He blew a kiss at Carolyn and darted out of the kitchen.

"Argh!" Fey pretended to be disgusted.

Carolyn rolled her eyes shallowly and looked down to hide her blushing face.

"Argh!" Justin parroted Fey.

Scarlet looked over her shoulder and glared at her younger sister.

"Eat your fish." Fey told Justin.

She almost pinched his oil stained mouth and stopped herself. He was really enjoying himself, Cecily was the one feeding him because Scarlet mentioned the fish bones choking children if they ate carelessly.

The smell of deep fried fish filled the air, causing her to be hungry.

She looked down at Severus and Flan, both dogs had three fish each. Originally they had five but two had been eaten hastily.

"So, the dogs won’t choke on the bones." she said in a questioning tone.

"Nope." Scarlet answered. Their bellies could crush or melt anything.

Fey got her phone and took a picture of both hounds and their delicious meals.

[Severus continues winning at life and now he has a friend, Flan.]

She could not wait to see what the I hate Severus club had to say about this.

As everyone was cooking, Carolyn snuck away and pinched a small bit of Justin’s fish.

She sent it to her mouth while the little one pouted and covered his plate with his hands and looked at great grandma Cecily for help.

"I saw that Caro leave my baby’s food alone." Scarlet said, from where she was.

She added another deep fried fish on to a pile of about twenty ones.

"Gertrude, get the other maids and come serve the ready food."

The maids, as always were standing on side by waiting and eager to help.

Scarlet packed up the freshly deep fried five fish, fries, salad, steak and onion rings.

"Take these to the seventh prince." she handed the package to Coral.

"Yes my lady." the maid bowed and took the package.

Carolyn evaded Cecily’s hands and attempted to steal from Justin’s plate again.

"If we had known that fish could live in water and come out tasting like this we would have built the ships and fishing boats much sooner. I can’t believe you took so long to expose this to us Scarlet. You were gate keeping."

How could something so weird looking taste so delicious? When Scarlet sent Tion to bring fish from the pond she had no idea what her sister was planning.

And when she started gutting the fish, they all turned grey and pinched their noses.

When she added spices and started deep frying the fish, however, it was an entirely different story.

To stop Carolyn from bothering her baby, Scarlet put an entire fish on a plate for her and shoved it into her hands.

"First of all I taught you the word gate keeping and that is not how it’s meant to be used. Secondly, I asked you to make fishing boats. What did you think they were for?"

"Crabs, duh!" Carolyn answered.

"Do you mean that there are more of these fish in the water?" the empress asked.

"Yeah, I bred them and transferred the eggs into the water immediately after winter. I dumped them in every water body around the inhabited cities and on the grey star.

I am experimenting to see which types of fish survive in which type of water." She answered.

Severus who had done the actual dumping of fish and fish eggs into the water snorted.

"You just love taking my credit."

"My crystals paid for the fish and eggs." she answered.

"I can see why your brother is angry." The empress inhaled the sigh she wanted to release. "Nobody has worked harder to revive the Sunstar than you. Thank you dear, I don’t know what else to say or do. Just know that whatever you need or in every situation, this royal house stands behind you firmly."

"You can reward her by making valentine’s day a public holiday." Carolyn suggested.

"How does she benefit from that?" a puzzled Fey asked.

"It’s Justin’s birthday. We can all take a day off work and celebrate it with a bang. Tell me that’s not a good plan." Carolyn answered.

Everyone turned their curious or surprised eyes to Carolyn. When did the workaholic start shopping for public holidays?
