Told You I Can Turn Back Time -
Chapter 108: Trade and Offerings
Chapter 108: Chapter 108: Trade and Offerings
Xuanzhenzi had finished speaking and, after giving Jing Shiyu a profound look, left without turning back, leaving everyone behind with stupefaction plastered across their faces.
Though it was clear that over the past days, Xuanzhenzi had been unceasingly reducing Jing Shiyu’s power and usurping her assets, showing not the slightest courtesy.
Yet, when Xuanzhenzi walked out from this courtyard, why did he suddenly treat Jing Shiyu so politely?
For a moment, the plain-looking courtyard seemed to be enveloped in layers of mist in everyone’s minds, acquiring an indescribable air of mystery.
Shuting, who was following not far behind Jing Shiyu, was also full of astonishment. She clearly remembered that Lin Xing was the one living in this courtyard; how had Xuanzhenzi’s demeanor changed so drastically after coming out, treating her master with such a pleasant expression?
When Jing Shiyu heard Xuanzhenzi’s words, a hint of contemplation flashed in her eyes, but her concern for Lin Xing prevailed, prompting her to rush into the courtyard to check on him first.
Seeing that Lin Xing was lying peacefully on the bed, and after checking that his breathing and heartbeat were normal, Jing Shiyu finally let out a sigh of relief and sat quietly by the bed.
Shuting watched in surprise as her master carefully guarded Lin Xing’s side; it was the first time she had seen her show such concern for a man.
Thinking of what Xuanzhenzi had just said, Shuting thought to herself, "This Lin Xing was actually able to scare away Master Uncle; it seems his identity is far from as simple as it seems on the surface. No wonder master has been so attentive to him all this time."
On the other side, Lin Xing seemed to hear some noises, opened his eyes to take a look, and seeing Jing Shiyu sitting beside him, he yawned and said, "You’re here?"
Jing Shiyu gave a gentle smile and replied, "Yes, I heard my Master Uncle came to find you, I was worried you might be in danger, so I rushed over."
"If you’re tired, you should sleep first; we can talk about everything tomorrow."
Lin Xing nodded and soon fell back into a drowsy sleep.
The next morning, after a good night’s rest, Lin Xing woke up feeling refreshed, as if his weary spirit had been completely rejuvenated.
He got up from the bed, stretched, and noticed that Jing Shiyu was sitting at the desk next to him, reviewing documents.
Shuting was walking into the room with several account books in hand, casting a peculiar glance towards Lin Xing.
Jing Shiyu, seeing Lin Xing awake, smiled and asked, "Are you hungry? I had the cook prepare breakfast for you."
Lin Xing nodded and then started to eat the steamed buns, meat porridge, and a bowl of mutton soup that the servant had brought.
Watching Lin Xing devour his food, Jing Shiyu said softly, "About last night, I’ve had someone inquire into it."
"It seems that my Master Uncle Xuanzhenzi, used Spiritual Manipulation on a flying sword to try and assassinate you, but when the sword did not return, he came knocking."
"Yet he left empty-handed, having lost the flying sword."
Lin Xing swallowed a mouthful of bun and nodded, "Hmm, the guy tried to kill me yesterday, but unfortunately, I couldn’t kill him, so I took his flying sword as compensation for my emotional distress."
Standing to the side, Shuting was secretly taken aback. She had long heard of how formidable her Master Uncle Xuanzhenzi was. When she initially heard the news from last night, she had her doubts.
But similar reports had come from all quarters, even Xuanzhenzi himself had sought Jing Shiyu to reclaim his flying sword.
Listening to Lin Xing speak so lightly of the matter, as if he wasn’t all that concerned, Shuting could only feel that this man was indeed an enigma.
Jing Shiyu, however, knew that Lin Xing’s strength was likely not enough to contend with Xuanzhenzi. She speculated in her heart that the other party must have used some trickery to snatch away the flying sword and thus frightened the opponent away.
But this situation was exactly to her advantage, affording her the opportunity to turn the tables.
Still, there were some matters for which she needed to seek Lin Xing’s opinion.
She then gestured to Shuting, who stood to one side, and this disciple hurried away with the servants, leaving only Jing Shiyu and Lin Xing alone in the room.
Jing Shiyu finally addressed Lin Xing, "That flying sword was forged by a Sword Hero predecessor two hundred years ago. It has been worshipped on Heavenly Mountain for two hundred years to attain its current power, and one must comprehend the second legacy to fully wield its abilities."
Upon hearing this, Lin Xing felt a surge of curiosity, "I heard last time that your hairpin was an ancient object worshipped for a hundred years, and today you mentioned that the flying sword was worshipped for two hundred years. What is the difference between them?"
Jing Shiyu looked at Lin Xing, surprised, not expecting him to be unaware of this.
So she patiently explained, "Whether it’s swords, Divine Armor, or magical flying swords, as long as they are worshipped in accordance with rituals over the years, they slowly develop a spirit..."
Through Jing Shiyu’s explanation, Lin Xing gradually understood how it worked.
According to his own understanding, equipment that had been worshipped would become stronger; the longer it was worshipped, the stronger it became, and its immense power would even be difficult for the wielder to control.
For instance, equipment that had been worshipped for a hundred years would require someone who had comprehended the first legacy to have full control.
And a flying sword worshipped for two hundred years would demand the comprehension of the second legacy to unveil its full effectiveness.
If two pieces of equipment were worshipped for the same number of years, it was often the case that the one with greater fame and more worshippers would have greater power.
Lin Xing nodded and said, "So you’re saying I can’t use the flying sword of Xuanzhenzi."
Jing Shiyu replied, "That is indeed the case, and furthermore, the flying sword bears the marks of Xuanzhenzi’s years of refinement. Erasing these marks is also quite troublesome."
"So I want to ask if you are insistent on keeping this flying sword, or are you willing to trade it with Xuanzhenzi for something else?"
After receiving Lin Xing’s willing response, Jing Shiyu smiled, "I understand. Well then... next, I’ll deal with my Master Uncle."
"I know him well. He has been cautious and careful all his life. Since he did not dare to act last night, he will not confront you today unless he is completely sure of his chances."
Lin Xing thought to himself, "He wasn’t exactly sparing with acting last night, he nearly had me trapped and killed."
Jing Shiyu continued, "If he comes to see you, just leave him hanging, don’t pay him any attention. I’ll take care of the rest."
"And don’t take out that flying sword carelessly. As long as my Master Uncle is still in the city, he can easily sense it."
After discussing with Lin Xing, Jing Shiyu left the room with a smile brimming on her face.
However, as soon as she stepped outside and saw Shuting and the young girl beside her, the smile on her face vanished without a trace, replaced only by a chill.
Shuting spoke from the side, "Master, the person has been captured. It was she who told Master Uncle’s people about Lin Xing."
The young girl trembled under her gaze, stammering, "Holy... Holy Daughter, I... I did it for your sake, wanting the Holy Daughter to climb to great riches..."
"Slut, you also dare make decisions for me?" Jing Shiyu looked coldly at her, "Clearly, you were coveting the Silver that old ghost rewarded..."
