Those Classmates who Suddenly Disappeared -
Chapter 291: Traveling Together
Chapter 291: Chapter 291: Traveling Together
After a long journey, everyone dragged their weary bodies into the cabin. Even though it was already dark, they hadn’t encountered any danger on the way.
Once inside, Deng Wenli was immediately tended to and his wounds rebandaged. Luckily, Ning Qi and her team had brought ample medical supplies, just in case of such situations.
As for Gu Fan’s group, their fierce battle would undoubtedly have resulted in more serious injuries if not for the helmet protection provided by old man Tian.
Old man Tian lit the stove, slightly warming the cabin, and everyone began treating their wounds, finally able to remove their heavy coats.
"My God, we’re finally safe, I’m so happy." After bandaging the wounds on her legs, Lu Yi casually tossed her sleeping bag onto the floor and laid down, falling asleep immediately. Her snores echoed around the cabin soon after.
Everyone was exhausted, including Su Hui, and they all wished to rest soundly.
No one was assigned to keep watch this time. Instead, they blocked the door with their luggage. Regardless of the howling blizzard outside, everyone was finally able to rest together.
When the next day came, Gu Fan was the first to wake and found the blizzard was still in full swing outside. It didn’t seem like it would be ending anytime soon. They would have to stay here for a little longer.
Soon after, Lu Yi and the others also awoke and looked helplessly at the storm raging outside.
Jie then asked old man Tian, "Sir, judging by the current situation, I don’t think we are leaving today, are we?"
"No, we aren’t. The forest has been fraught with danger, and the blizzard only adds to that risk. With some helmets already damaged and a lack of ammunition, encountering a wolf pack would spell disaster," old man Tian responded, chilling everyone to the bone at the realization of the hardship that lay ahead.
Gu Fan glanced at Deng Wenli, who looked pale from his painful wounds, then turned to ask Ning Qi, "What about you? With your conditions, do you still want to continue hunting?"
Ning Qi didn’t answer directly. Instead, she asked, "What about you? Do you still want to continue onwards?"
Gu Fan replied with a faint smile, "Well, right now, either group trying to push forward would be unrealistic. In the event of trouble, we wouldn’t be able to handle it. I believe we should cooperate and move forward together, overcome the difficulties and proceed together."
After hearing his words, Ning Qi furrowed her brows as if considering something. The others also agreed that this seemed to be the only solution.
Hu Bo voiced his concern, "Sure, we can cooperate, but what if our routes are different?"
Gu Fan replied, "We are heading to Yuxueyun Mountain, and we can’t change our route. As for you, you are here for hunting. You can virtually hunt anywhere, can’t you?"
"So you want us to alter our route." Ning Qi seemed reluctant, but after a significant glance at Deng Wenli, who was the most severely injured and thus least mobile among them, and considering the meager ammunition they had left, she realized they didn’t have many choices, "We can travel with you, but you have to share your route with us first."
This was a reasonable requirement, so Gu Fan and old man Tian accepted. Old man Tian pulled out a map and drew their planned route. It showed a line from their cabin to another, all the way to Yuxueyun Mountain.
Ning Qi and Hu Bo exchanged a glance, gave it some thought, and then proposed, "The route can work. Anyway, wherever we go, we can hunt. However, we didn’t come just to hunt, but also to enjoy the scenery. So, we’d like to make a slight modification to your route." After saying this, Ning Qi marked her alterations on the map. The final destination remained the same, only a detour was added to the middle part of the journey.
According to Ning Qi, the detour had great views, and what kind of views they were would be revealed when they got there. She promised it wouldn’t disappoint them.
Seeing the significant detour illustrated on the map, old man Tian remained expressionless, leaving everyone unsure whether he accepted or rejected the changes. Gu Fan stroked his chin and said, "Since we’ve decided to cooperate and journey together, it is natural to compromise on the route. I think we can accept your modification."
Upon hearing this, no one, including Su Hui, voiced objections, and old man Tian simply nodded. He added, "Indeed, the detour does offer stunning scenery. It’s worth taking."
And so it was decided. As for when to start the journey, they would have to wait until the end of the blizzard.
However, they were running out of firewood; the fire was about to die out. Someone needed to brave the cold and gather more wood, and Ning Qi and Hu Bo volunteered, willing to contribute to their newly formed team.
Gu Fan appreciated Ning Qi and Hu Bo’s spirit and encouraged others to follow their example.
When Ning Qi and Hu Bo stepped outside, Gu Fan’s expression darkened slightly. Su Hui and Zhuo Hang seemed to sense something was amiss.
Outside, the blizzard was in full swing, making it difficult for them to keep their footing. Ning Qi and Hu Bo gathered firewood while conversing. True, they volunteered to fetch firewood in this weather, but their main intention was to find a place to talk where they wouldn’t be overheard.
Hu Bo seemed concerned, "Are you kidding? You want to take them to that place? What if they get in our way?"
"Do you have a better idea? Do you think we can reach the destination on our own?" Ning Qi, helpless, remarked. Because Deng Wenli was injured, they already had a significant burden, and their ammunition was running low. Meeting a pack of wolves would reduce them to a melee fight.
"We could turn back and come again when we’re ready," Hu Bo suggested. Ning Qi immediately shook her head, insisting, "Even if we were completely prepared, we would still lack manpower to confront a wolf pack, unless we brought more people. But then, the spoils wouldn’t be enough to share. And if we delayed too long, others might discover that place. I won’t let anyone beat me to it."
Hearing this, Hu Bo had no choice but to grin and bear it, "Alright, let’s cooperate with them. But I want to remind you, once we reach the destination, how do we lose them? You can see for yourself, Su Hui and Zhuo Hang’s skills are not of ordinary people. Their skills are definitely honed by professional training."
"I know. I’m also worried about the identities of Su Hui and Zhuo Hang," Ning Qi shared her concerns. After some thought, she added, "Let it be. Let’s go with it for now and take it step by step. Let’s get back inside quickly, or stay out too long and make them suspicious. This Gu Fan is quite sharp, we need to be careful and not tip our hand."
