Chapter 286: Chapter 286: Exceptional Skills

"Move, now!" Gu Fan shouted. Everyone picked up their pace, desperately trying to escape. Behind them, the sound of gunshots echoed relentlessly.

Su Hui and Zhuo Hang retreated while shooting, like it was a competition. Su Hui let off a shot and a wolf fell. "Fifth one!" she declared.

"Sixth one, I’m leading," Zhuo Hang was swift and decisive, quick to fire his gun. His lead only fueled Su Hui’s competitive spirit.

"Tied at six!" Su Hui announced. A quick glance, a swift redirecting of her gun and another wolf was felled. "Seventh one, back on top," she cried out.

Gu Fan glanced in her direction, "Su Hui and Zhuo Hang have our backs. Everyone else, keep an eye on our flanks."

"What does he mean?" Lu Yi didn’t understand at first. Then he saw a large number of wolves rushing at them from either side. He realized the ominous intention. "My god, they’re trying to surround us!"

"Looks like it, but there’s something else I’m worried about..." old man Tian trailed off. The situation was urgent and wolves were already launching an attack from the sides.

Seeing the situation on their flanks worsen, Su Hui shouted, "Hu Bo, Ning Qi, switch positions, cover our backs." As she moved to the side, she fired her gun, scoring hit after hit, toppling the wolves lunging at them. Her striking display was awe-inspiring.

"Sister Su, please take these," Hu Bo handed her some bullets.

Due to the number of wolves they had already killed, the pack was more hesitant, reducing the pressure. Supported by Zhuo Hang’s shooting skills and Hu Bo’s assistance, it looked manageable.

The situation on their flanks was more perilous. They were being flanked from both sides, but there wasn’t a counter-attack yet. It seemed like they were waiting for a chance.

"Conserve your ammunition," Su Hui lowered her gun and started to jog. "Old man Tian, how much longer until we reach the safe house?"

Old man Tian didn’t respond as they had a pack in front of them, too. The wolves were growling angrily as they watched them.

"Great, we’re completely surrounded, aren’t we?" Lu Yi’s face paled, as did everyone else’s. The wolves were closing in, it was driving them to madness.

The wolves behind were closing in, the ones in front blocked their path, and the ones on the right sealed them in. Their only hope lay to the left.

But Old man Tian disagreed, "We can’t change our course. That’ll only take us further away from the safe house. If we’re trapped in this blizzard for too long, these wolves will devour us."

Hu Bo agreed, "These wolves are clever, they don’t want to engage with us, but they don’t want us reaching the safe house either. That’s why they are leaving us an escape route on our left."

Hearing this, Gu Fan got anxious, "What do we do then? Force our way through?"

Old man Tian, being the most experienced, made the decisions. Everyone’s lives were in his hands. Though the pressure was immense, he remained calm and composed.

Jie urged, "No rush, but old man, have you thought of a plan?"

"We can’t wait until nightfall, the snowstorm combined with the darkness will only worsen our situation." Declaring this resolutely, Old man Tian cried out, "What are we afraid of! Charge with me!"

It was decided. They would break out through the front, keeping their original course. old man Tian and the supervisors charged, using the sound of gunshots to intimidate the wolves blocking their path into letting them through.

"Good call, old man." Lu Yi had to admire old man Tian’s decisiveness. But now, the wolves weren’t backing down. They refused to let Gu Fan and the rest move along their original path.

Large packs of wolves started attacking from their sides. There were so many wolves, too many to count. The two shotguns that Su Hui and Ning Qi had weren’t enough to hold them back.

"Damn it!" Lu Yi was tackled by two wolves. He desperately used his shield to protect his head. Even in the howling blizzard, he could clearly hear the noise of sharp teeth and claws striking against metal.

Seeing someone go down, a third wolf joined the duo intending to grab Lu Yi’s leg and pull him away.

In the nick of time, Jie swung his baseball bat and Ouyang Jin advanced with his spade, chasing off the three attacking Lu Yi.

"How are you? Are you okay?" Jie quickly asked after rescuing him.

"I’m fine!" Lu Yi inspected himself, his pants were a bit torn, but there were no major issues. However, it wasn’t time for thanks. A greater number of wolves were closing in, sending the three of them running in fear.

"Don’t retreat!", Gu Fan shouted, "If we do, the wolves on the flanks will cut off Zhuo Hang and Hu Bo from us. They’ll be left with no backup. Hold your ground!"

"Damn it, let’s do this!" Without giving it another thought, Lu Yi charged back into the fray. Jie and Ouyang Jin joined him.

The situation was grim. The number of wolves was at least five times their own. If it wasn’t for the intimidating sound of gunshots, the wolf pack would swarm them, devouring them all.

Xu Haowen and Deng Wenming were helping the injured Deng Wenli, it increased their pace slightly, but they were short-staffed. and they couldn’t spare a hand for defense either.

Gu Fan, holding a club in one hand and a dagger in the other, was steely-eyed in the face of the daunting situation. He never imagined running into so many wolves, an adversity worse than what they faced in the wasteland.

"How much longer will this damned snowstorm last?" Ning Qi shot down a wolf but ran out of bullets. As she reloaded, another wolf charged at her, turning her face pale with fear.

In the nick of time, Su Hui spun around and shot the wolf, saving Ning Qi. However, Su Hui found herself out of bullets and needing to reload. A fierce wolf seemed to see an opportunity and charged at her. Yet, Su Hui showed no fear. Instead of reloading, she whipped out her dagger and charged.

"What the hell!" Ning Qi looked on in disbelief, not understanding Su Hui’s bold move.

The wolf charged at her with an intimidating force, its feral nature apparent. Yet, Su Hui, unafraid, met the challenge with a determined look in her eyes.

As they closed in amidst the howling storm, the wolf lunged at her. Su Hui leaped and her knee collided with the wolf’s head, knocking it down. As it struggled to get up, she swiftly drove her dagger through it. It was a clean kill.
