Chapter 274: Cunning Strategy
Chapter 274: Chapter 274: Cunning Strategy
According to Gu Fan’s plan, they would have reached the village near Yuxueyun Mountain in about five days. However, on the third day, Su Hui’s car was hit by an uncultured driver who abruptly cut in front of her.
Fortunately, the car wasn’t severely damaged and just needed some repairs. However, the reckless driver began to blame Su Hui, hurling a series of offensive remarks. With Su Hui’s fiery character, she, of course, would not back down.
A heated argument broke out, and the rude driver even exclaimed, "If you weren’t a woman, I would’ve already hit you. Here, women don’t dare to shout at men."
This comment just wound Su Hui up even more. Rolling up her sleeves, she responded, "Don’t hold back, let’s see what you’ve got. Let’s see if this granny can’t teach some manners to a playboy like you."
"Sure, bring it on." The boorish driver was foolish enough to make the first move, only to get swiftly knocked down by Su Hui.
Unbelievably, the ill-mannered driver got cheesed off and insisted on escalating the situation, calling in the authorities. As a result, the incident kept dragging on in addition to the car repairs, leading to a day’s delay in their journey. They were eventually forced to find a nearby place to stay for the night.
"What nonsense, how could someone be so unreasonable." Su Hui returned to the hotel in a fit of rage after the authorities concluded the matter. Every thought of the loathsome driver fuelled a dire urge in her to give him another beatdown.
Lu Yi quickly comforted Su Hui, "Sister Su calm down, we all will encounter a few jerks in life".
While the sentiment was valid, it wasn’t comforting. Su Hui’s anger showed no signs of subsiding. When she glanced at Lu Yi, it only made her more irritated.
*Gu Fan was now worried about another matter. Delaying traveling by a day was a minor issue compared to the fact that they had to retrieve the repaired car on time the next day and continue their journey.*
Fortunately, the mechanic’s shop had no other business, so they agreed to work overnight on their repairs, ensuring they could retrieve the car early the next day.
What was supposed to be a five-day journey was now stretched to six. That meant they were falling even more behind Lin Xi, and Gu Fan had a sense of foreboding.
As per the arrangement, they all went to the mechanic’s shop the next day. As promised, the shop owner had repaired the car overnight. While they had to shell out a little extra, the service was worth it.
"Alright, let’s hit the road. We need to make up for the lost day." Gu Fan was determined to catch up, but unfortunately, they encountered another accident as soon as they hit the road.
An car illegally turned, causing danger to other vehicles, and ended up in a collision with another car. One of them lost control and crashed into Gu Fan’s van.
With a loud crash, the hood of their van was smashed. Thankfully, no one was injured, but it was a close shave.
Upon seeing the accident, the mechanic ran over and offered to work extra on their car repair. However, it would cost them more, which they had no choice but to accept.
They were having an unbelievably bad run of luck, encountering road accidents two days in a row, causing further delays in their trip.
"It’s alright, at least no one was hurt." Lu Yi tried to lighten the mood, but it was clear that the group was emotionally exhausted.
The driver responsible for the accident was filled with guilt and kept apologizing to Gu Fan, even offering him money to cover all the expenses.
Seeing the remorseful driver, Gu Fan kept his anger in check. Given the circumstances, there was really nothing more they could do. It was important to maintain composure and not let the incident affect them.
Lu Yi sighed and said, "It looks like we’re going to be delayed by another day. We are falling further behind Lin Xi, and I’m afraid we won’t be able to catch up."
"The situation may be even worse than that." Gu Fan’s words were grave, adding to the growing tension in the group. Alarmed, Lu Yi asked, "What exactly do you mean, Gu Fan?"
With a helpless sigh, Gu Fan said, "Experiencing this kind of incident two days in a row can’t be coincidental, I suspect someone is deliberately trying to slow us down."
"Are you saying this is Lin Xi’s doing?" Su Hui furrowed her brows, while Zhuo Hang also felt it was a possibility. Considering they were racing against time, encountering such incidents raised serious suspicions.
Gu Fan added, "If it really is Lin Xi’s scheme, then she definitely knows we’re coming. How else could she arrange for people to create trouble for us?"
Jie immediately understood and said, "I see, we’re being followed by Lin Xi’s people."
"Quite possibly." After saying this, Xu Haowen scanned the surroundings but found nothing suspicious.
Su Hui glanced at Zhuo Hang and asked, "You’re a professional and are skilled in anti-tracking, didn’t you notice?"
Zhuo Hang shot back, "You’re also a professional. Why didn’t you notice us being tracked?"
"You’re the man, you’re here, so I don’t need to worry about that." The look on Su Hui’s face when she said those words made it clear to everyone- both professionals had been assumptions about the other keeping a watch, resulting in both getting complacent.
At this point, Gu Fan’s phone rang. Glancing at the screen, he felt a chill go down his spine. The call was from Leng Le, who held the boss’s phone.
When Gu Fan picked up the call, he heard a confident voice from the other end, "I’m curious about where you guys are. According to your schedule, you should be near Yuxueyun Mountain by now."
"Sorry, we had a bit of a traffic accident and got delayed by two days. We are still..." Gu Fan had barely finished when the boss cut him off, "What traffic accident? You must be doing this intentionally, stalling time, eh? Gu Fan, you should know better than I do the consequences of brushing off matters, unless you’re eager to swap girlfriends."
"No, I have no desire to change. Mine is quite good. I assure you we will hit the road soon and catch up with our target as quickly as possible." Gu Fan tried to assure the boss. His main worry was whether Leng Le was unharmed, he demanded current photos from the boss.
The boss was okay with the condition and had a few photos of Leng Le taken. Though the boss looked a bit worn out due to being held captive, there were no visible injuries, much to Gu Fan’s relief.
After ending the call, Gu Fan stared at the damaged vehicle. If Lin Xi had indeed sent someone to cause trouble, they needed to come up with a countermeasure quickly. else, if their journey kept getting delayed, they would never catch up.
