Gu Fan and Su Hui had been guarding the front door for quite a long time, with Gu Fan occasionally checking his phone.

Thinking that Gu Fan was checking the time, Su Hui queried, "What’s the matter? Are you so aware of the time because you have an appointment this evening?"

Gu Fan gave a small chuckle, then coughed a few times. His complexion was still not great, indicating that he was still persistently pushing himself. Su Hui became worried for him, failing to understand what exactly he was holding on to.

To this, Gu Fan merely responded with a bitter smile, without giving many explanations.

After a long wait, it was nearly the time for Lian Shengxiong to clock out of work. It was at this moment that Leng Le called, asking, "Where are you, Gu Fan? Didn’t you say you would be resting at home? Why aren’t you home? Where are you exactly?"

"I’m out buying medicine and will be back shortly; just please wait for me a little longer." Gu Fan apologized. Then, he heard Leng Le’s disgruntled words, "Why didn’t you tell me what you needed, so I could buy it for you? You’re a patient now, you should be resting at home."

"Alright, alright, I understand. Thank you, it’s wonderful to have such a caring girlfriend," Gu Fan chuckled. The mirth in his weak voice underscored the significance of Leng Le in his heart.

Leng Le added, "Alright, I squeezed out some time to visit you. I have to get to work soon, so go home and rest quickly."

"Alright, alright." Gu Fan agreed readily, said a few more words to Leng Le, then hung up.

Hearing the conversation, Su Hui couldn’t help remarking, "Your girlfriend really cares about you. Congratulations on finding an ideal partner."

"That’s how I see it, too. I’m extremely lucky," Gu Fan replied, and then broke into a coughing fit. He then glanced at the time, finding it odd that Lian Shengxiong was still not out from the club. Could it be that he was doing overtime?

Just then, the team member assigned to keep an eye on the back door called. "Sister Su, there’s a problem. Lian Shengxiong just walked out from the back door and is looking for a taxi."

"Keep him in sight, we will be there ASAP," Su Hui quickly accelerated her car towards the back door of the Elite Club even as she wondered why Lian Shengxiong had suddenly chosen to exit from the back door which was designed only for pedestrians and not vehicles. Why would he leave his car at the club?

"Did we get discovered?" Su Hui clenched her teeth as she drove, quickly catching up to Lian Shengxiong. She and Gu Fan got out of the car, left it with the back door watcher, and trailed him on foot.

Seemingly oblivious, Lian Shengxiong continued to flag down taxis as he slowly walked. Unfortunately, all the passing taxis were occupied, leaving him no opportunity to quickly leave.

Lian Shengxiong was in such a hurry to leave from the back door because he had received a call from a woman advising him against using the front door as someone might be watching. She suggested he should exit from the back door instead.

It turned out Leng Le found out Gu Fan’s location through a tracker she installed on his phone. She had not expected to find that Gu Fan was near the Elite Club.

Since the team leader was worried about getting caught in a dragnet, the operations of Lian Shengxiong and Leng Le were kept separate, and they had never met. Leng Le knew the function of the Elite Club. Despite lacking Lian Shengxiong’s contact, she found the club’s number online and provided him with the warning.

Although Lian Shengxiong was now on high alert, occasionally checking to see if he was being followed, Su Hui was even more cautious. She wouldn’t let him notice anything amiss, trailing him from a safe distance.

Just then, as they rounded a corner, Leng Le emerged from a shop. Running into each other was inevitable.

Upon seeing Gu Fan and Su Hui, Leng Le was first taken aback, then furrowed her brows and scrutinized them, a questioning look in her eyes.

"Um..." Gu Fan did not have any idea what to say and looked exceedingly embarrassed.

Leng Le looked at him disdainfully, "Go on, explain. Didn’t you say that you were going out to buy medicine and then rest at home? Do you need Su Hui to accompany you to buy medicine, or did you need to run this far to get it?"

Su Hui quickly stepped in, "Actually, on his way back from buying medicine, Gu Fan ran into me. Seeing his poor condition, I thought we should try a different hospital. So, I brought him here. See, there’s a hospital right across the street." As she spoke, Su Hui casually pointed to a hospital across the road. It was a good thing this hospital was around to support her lie. However, without a medical record, their alibi could easily fall apart.

Su Hui hoped that Leng Le would not fuss, and that she could overlook details. Moreover, Lian Shengxiong seemed to have left the place; if they don’t catch up soon, it would be too late. However, it seemed that Gu Fan had to clarify things before they could leave.

"You two can continue your chat. I have some matters to attend to, so I will take my leave first," Su Hui attempted to leave, but was obstructed by Leng Le. There was a sense of hostility in her manner. "Wait up. What did you say just now? Came here for a check-up? Where are the medical records?"

"Dear God, this woman is so persistent," Su Hui looked troubled. Meanwhile, Gu Fan was feeling so ill that he was dizzy and his consciousness was starting to blur, making it impossible for him to explain.

"Why not explain? Do you have no explanation at all?" Leng Le was unyielding and menacing. Finally, she turned around and left in a huff, leaving behind an atmosphere of tension and anger.

Several moments later, blood started running from Gu Fan’s nose. As he watched the droplets of blood fall to the ground before him, his vision darkened, and he collapsed by the roadside.

"Gu Fan, what happened to you!" Su Hui’s complexion paled; she quickly dialed a number on her phone, directing her colleagues to bring the car.

At this time, Leng Le, who appeared to have walked far away, was actually observing from the shadows. She saw Gu Fan’s nosebleed, and then his collapse. She knew what this meant and for a moment felt a pang of sorrow.

"Goodbye, Gu Fan. Thank you for the joy you brought me during these times. I suspect that it will be hard for me to love anyone else again." Leng Le gave a bitter smile, wiped away a teardrop that had welled up in her eye, swallowed down her emotions, and left without looking back or any lingering attachment.
