Those Classmates who Suddenly Disappeared
Chapter 233: Win or Lose

Chapter 233: Chapter 233: Win or Lose

Gu Fan looked nonchalantly and shrugged his shoulders: "Why are you so late? You made me wait for you so long, I’m starving here. Don’t you feel guilty about it?"

Upon hearing this, and seeing Gu Fan so unperturbed, not at all like a man in danger, Hai began to worry. He suspected that Gu Fan must have some backup. However, he had already asked Leng Le and confirmed that Su Hui was still busy at work.

Hai forcefully spat out a threat: "I told you before, if you mess with our business again, your life won’t be safe."

Gu Fan promptly responded: "And I also told you before, that there is a traitor among you who has secretly told us a lot about you, including your identity."

"Is that so? Gu Fan, you really are good at putting on a show." Hai responded dismissively and laughed coldly: "My identity has always been a secret. Apart from those with high authority, most people really don’t know about me, who I am, where I come from and my background."

"But, he knows what you look like, Hai. If we just describe you a little or show him a photo, won’t he know who you are?" With Gu Fan’s words, Hai was thunderstruck and stood frozen to the spot.

Immediately, Hai hurriedly tried to cover it up: "I don’t know what you’re talking about, I’m not some ’Hai’."

Gu Fan smiled meaningfully: "I knew you wouldn’t admit it, so I set up a trap for you. I intentionally leaked information, leading you to act according to my plan, and that’s why I purposely waited here for you."

"Kid, you’re just bluffing." Hai stubbornly denied it, but the one who was bluffing was actually him. He couldn’t understand how Gu Fan could guess his identity.

Gu Fan sighed: "Since Brother Hai won’t admit it, then we will talk through each point until you finally admit it."

"Fine, I want to hear your insights." Hai crossed his arms and attempted to appear nonchalant, but seeing Gu Fan’s extreme confidence, he was breaking out in cold sweats.

Gu Fan cleared his throat and smiled faintly: "Let’s start with the first coincidence. Your height and figure are strikingly similar to Brother Hai."

Hai snorted dismissively: "So what? There are many people who have similar height and figure."

In response, Gu Fan also nodded: "True, just the height is not enough, Hai is a retired soldier with great skills. And you, too, have an extraordinary skill, to the extent that even Sister Su can’t defeat you. That’s the second coincidence."

Upon hearing this, Hai felt a sinking feeling, but he still argued: "Just the two coincidences doesn’t prove I am Hai."

"Yes, yes, there are more, don’t be hasty." Gu Fan’s nonchalant demeanor was starting to irritate Hai. He continued: "During the incident at the Qianye Mausoleum, Jie was in danger, and it was you who helped him out of it. Even though you could have stayed safe, you chose to risk your life to save Jie. Why would you do that?"

Hai thought for a moment, then explained: "I only saved you guys because I thought you might be useful."

"Is that so? This reason seems a bit forced. Did it take you a long time to come up with it? Since you feel we have some utility, there were a lot of people in danger at that time. It is puzzling why you saved Jie specifically." Gu Fan’s rebuttal left Hai momentarily speechless, his teeth clenched in frustration.

Gu Fan continued: "Alright, let’s move on to other matters. Remember when you guys attacked the escort vehicle and were later identified by Lu Yi’s surveillance footage? Although you guys found Lu Yi, he still managed to escape. I found this really strange, Lu Yi was wearing a helmet at the time and you couldn’t see his face. How did you guys know it was Lu Yi and then kidnap him?"

Gu Fan watched as Hai stayed silent, seemingly brimming with a murderous look. Faltering slightly, Gu Fan resumed speaking: "During his escape, Lu Yi caused some damage to the electric bike he was riding, and that bike is jointly owned by Lu Yi and Jie. When the damaged bike was parked at Jie’s place, you saw it. So you suspected Lu Yi. To further confirm it, you invited us to play basketball and pretended to ask Lu Yi about his safe travel. As a result, you managed to confirm his identity and kidnap him."

Hai gritted his teeth. Gu Fan had accurately pieced together most of the plan. This annoying kid was indeed a menace, continuously thwarting Leng Le’s plans.

"All you have are conjectures, you have no evidence." Hai remained standing there with his arms crossed, portraying a dominant attitude but trembling with fear inside.

With a mild smile, Gu Fan said, "That’s okay, there’s more. In the process of rescuing Lu Yi, due to our lack of manpower, we specifically called you. And as soon as you arrived, when we were about to take action, the kidnappers of Lu Yi suddenly rushed out, intending to escape."

Hai immediately rebuked, "That’s not right. You only informed me then, and it took me some time to get there. Only after that did those people attempt to escape. If I were really what you claim, they would have fled immediately after you reached out to me. Why would they wait to alert the kidnappers to escape only after spending some time with you?"

"You were unsure about our deployment on this side, hence, you were cautious about allowing your crew to rush out. You had to interact with us first to understand our situation, to be aware of your next move." After saying this, Gu Fan scratched his head, looking quite troubled. "Honestly, the reason we called for your support was due to our lack of manpower. If you had considered that, you wouldn’t have waited to tally with us before telling your men to flee. However, this spared you once, because even I didn’t know that Zhuo Hang was ambushed nearby with a squad, neither did Su Hui reveal this. So, you saw us and we thought we were the only ones."

"So that’s how it was!" Hai was secretly horrified. Had he received a call last time, asking him to support Gu Fan and the others in rescuing Lu Yi, and if he had deduced from this call that Gu Fan and the others were short of manpower, and rushed out directly with his people, they might have encountered Zhuo Hang’s squad and not only would his subordinates have been caught, he himself would have been as well.

Hai had always thought that even with Zhuo Hang’s reinforcements, Gu Fan and his crew were attempting to test him by asking Hai for reinforcement. Now, he realized he had misunderstood, they thought they were fighting alone.

At this point, when Gu Fan saw that Hai was lost in thought, he cleared his throat to bring Hai back. "Let’s talk about this time. I used one of your informers to find your crew’s place, then deliberately sent a message to Lu Yi, asking him to bring you guys in. I knew you would inform your men to run away as soon as you saw that address. Thank you, Lu Yi, for keeping you busy, playing basketball, chatting, and eating."

Hai figured it out. Last time when Hai invited Gu Fan and Lu Yi to play basketball, he was testing them. But this time, Gu Fan retaliated in kind, inviting Hai to play basketball.

"Gu Fan, you need evidence for everything. You’re just saying things without proof. I’m going to make you regret waiting for me here." Hai appeared to be ready to make a move, but Gu Fan remained calm, "Didn’t you say earlier that my informer is on your side, just send your pic to him and he will recognize you."

Hearing this, Hai became extremely nervous and stopped. Gu Fan seized this opportunity, "If you’re not Hai, why would you care what I said? Why are you afraid to make a move? This very much proves that you are Hai."

"You little bastard, I’m going to teach you a lesson." Enraged, Hai decided he could no longer be influenced by Gu Fan.

But Gu Fan gave a cold smile, "Go ahead. But An Jie will soon know the true face of his brother. The brother he admires so much is not as grand and tall as imagined, but an extremely cruel, ruthless villain."

"Do you think if you bring up Jie, I’d be afraid to kill you?" Hai was very angry, really angry. He had thought about killing Gu Fan here, but...

However, in this tense moment, Gu Fan proposed with a smile, "Brother Hai, I have a suggestion, a suggestion that’s good for everyone."

"What kind of bullshit suggestion do you have." Hai knew he couldn’t listen to Gu Fan’s words anymore, otherwise, he would definitely be influenced. Yet, he couldn’t resist hearing him out.

Looking at Hai with interest, Gu Fan said, "My proposal is to keep your identity a secret, I won’t tell anyone and it won’t affect your haughty image in Jie’s mind. Meanwhile, you must refrain from constantly threatening my life. Even when we encounter each other in the future, we could be enemies. We should follow our instincts when a conflict arises. What do you say?"

Frowning deeply, Hai pondered for a long time. Eventually, he loosened his clenched fist, turned around, and walked away, seemingly accepting Gu Fan’s proposal.

Watching Hai leave, Gu Fan sighed in relief. Speaking truthfully, he was just bluffing, not entirely certain if he could repel Hai; he feared Hai’s anger might drive him to disregard the consequences and Jie’s emotions and take Gu Fan’s life. In other words, Gu Fan was risking his life on this bet, luckily, he won. However, Gu Fan didn’t realize that he was still the loser.

While walking, Hai informed Leng Le about the situation, "Sorry, Sister Leng, Gu Fan figured out my identity. He’s a major issue."

"Don’t worry, this problem will soon disappear. You just focus on your work." After informing Hai about Gu Fan’s poisoning, Leng Le reassured him and ended the call. She gazed somberly out of the window at the brightly lit city, and sighed, it seemed it was time to let go.
