Those Classmates who Suddenly Disappeared
Chapter 214: Infiltrating the Inside

Chapter 214: Chapter 214: Infiltrating the Inside

The train station was bustling as usual today. A fashionable woman with a bag in her hand and a suitcase in the other, stiletto heels giving her an imposing height and her long hair flowing elegantly, strode down the street. Her glamorous appearance attracted many gazes.

While queuing for the security check, a shifty-eyed man stood behind her. As she placed her suitcase on the conveyor belt of the security scanner, he followed suit placing an empty bag onto the belt. Seizing the perfect moment, he swiftly reached into her bag and pilfered the phone in her hand.

Unaware of what just happened, the woman continued on her way while the thief blended into the crowd, looking for other potential targets.

However, the vigilant police observed the whole incident through the surveillance system. They took swift action to apprehend the man, retrieving the woman’s phone, earning admiring glances from the public.

The thief was soon taken into custody and after the police’s interrogation, he revealed everything truthfully. His name was Cui Qi, a habitual thief with a long criminal record in many cities, unrepentant despite many convictions.

As per Cui Qi’s confession, he had a falling out with his parents and had run away from home over a decade ago. He had no contact with them since then and had no friends. Driven by desperation, he resorted to petty thievery for survival and kept moving from city to city every time he was caught multiple times.

Cui Qi had been in this city for only two months, yet he had already committed over forty thefts. This was the first time he was caught here. When asked about any accomplices, he claimed to work alone and stated he hadn’t made any friends in the city since he arrived.

Cui Qi was then locked up, assuming he’d spend a long time behind bars, but to his surprise, he was released the next day, which left him rather dumbfounded.

Although Cui Qi felt perplexed, he was walking down the street wondering when the police had become so benevolent?

Just then, a black car pulled up. Cui Qi grew cautious. As the car door swung open, a heavily made-up woman greeted him, "Cui Qi, right? There’s no future in being a petty thief; get in the car if you want to make big money."

"You are..." Cui Qi furrowed his eyebrows. Being released so unexpectedly and now this sudden invite, he smelled a rat.

The woman laughed, "Why are you hesitating? Are you afraid that I’ll eat you? Besides, you’ve nothing to lose in the first place. What are you even scared of?"

"You have a point." Cui Qi still didn’t trust her, but seeing her already seated inside and leaving a spot for him, he saw her gesture as an invitation.

Cui Qi noticed a purposeful and almost provocative glint in her eyes, as if she was challenging his masculinity.

"Who am I afraid of?" So Cui Qi climbed into the car. As soon as the car door shut and the driver fired up the engine, the woman in the backseat started a conversation with Cui Qi.

Cui Qi asked first, "I have never been released so quickly after being arrested. You seem to have some sway, but why me? What do you powerful characters want from a person like me?"

The woman laughed and said, "Don’t worry, and don’t be so suspicious of me. Yes, we can easily influence the police to release you, but even the most powerful people can’t do everything by themselves. They need a lot of people to help them. Our job is to find people who can help our boss."

"Oh, I see. You guys have taken an interest in me." Cui Qi was a bit nervous. He still didn’t trust the woman, but then he said, "I always feel this isn’t something good. Otherwise, why would you guys look for someone like me?"

The woman calmly retorted, "As if constant crime is a good thing."

To that, Cui Qi scratched his head, "I admit I’m not a good person, but I have my limits. I won’t do things like committing murders or setting fires. Maybe you’ve got the wrong guy."

"Rest assured, no one is going to force you to murder anyone or set a fire," the woman replied, looking straight into Cui Qi’s eyes. She then stressed her next words, "You can reject this invitation, and you don’t have to come. But you might be missing out on the only opportunity to change your life."

The phrase "change your life" brightened Cui Qi’s eyes, revealing a spark of desire. Although he quickly tried to hide it, the woman had already noticed.

Eventually, Cui Qi couldn’t resist asking, "Alright, what exactly do you want me to do?"

"As for what we want you to do, we can’t tell you now. Many things are done secretly and not publicly revealed. What I can promise you is, first, as long as you obey orders, your life wouldn’t be in danger. Second, many people are going to help us, like the policeman who released you. If even the police are helping us, what do you have to worry about? Third, the payback can make you wealthy. You won’t have to resort to petty crimes anymore. Consider it."

"Sounds tempting." Cui Qi hesitated again. Despite all that talk, the woman still did not reveal what exactly he would have to do which made him wary. All he could say was, "I’ll think it over."

"Think it over and call me, and remember, you cannot tell anyone about our conversation tonight. Pretend you never saw me, understand?" After saying this, the woman solemnly handed Cui Qi a piece of paper.

The car pulled over. Cui Qi was somewhat dazed for the entire trip. What he experienced today was indeed unimaginable. He quietly wondered if the woman was from a secret organization that did unspeakable deeds. Would joining them lead to a meteoric rise, fulfilling any desire?

However, Cui Qi felt that they were too dark. It was better to avoid them and continue his petty thievery lifestyle.

As Cui Qi pondered, he accidentally bumped into some drunkards. This led to verbal clashes, escalating into a physical fight that left Cui Qi brutally beaten.

After enduring a beating, Cui Qi slowly recovered. A weary and famished Cui Qi returned to his rented room, only to find his luggage thrown outside. Because he was behind on rent and the landlord couldn’t contact him after his arrest yesterday, the landlord decided to kick Cui Qi out.

Where could he go this late at night? Carrying his baggage hopelessly on the street, Cui Qi saw people coming and going, laughing and chatting, bright shops lining the street, all completely disconnected from his own state. A lump formed in his throat as he, under the watch of curious onlookers, kept moving.

Afterward, it suddenly began to rain. Cui Qi hurriedly sought shelter under a bridge. Hanging in the cold wind with soaked clothes, the bitterness of life made him feel increasingly tired.

One after another, luxury cars passed him, sometimes with beautiful women in the passenger seat, which made Cui Qi extremely envious. Considering his own plight, he can’t help but laugh sarcastically.

The phrases "Change Fate, Change Life" flashed in Cui Qi’s mind again. After a moment, he touched his pocket and found the woman’s note. He pondered a moment then gritted his teeth. Considering what he’d been through, he thought why not take the gamble.

With that, Cui Qi dialed the number on the note. The same woman answered. He said, "I agree to join, but I need you to pick me up and provide accommodations."

"Alright, no problem. Send me your location." She ended the call. Half an hour later, the black car returned. The woman, smiling, opened the door for Cui Qi.

Cui Qi smiled back and threw his luggage into the car, displaying his consent.

"Welcome to our organization. We won’t disappoint you." After saying this, she laughed and shook hands with Cui Qi.

"I’m betting everything on you now." Cui Qi trusted their power. With an organization capable of releasing someone from the police station so quickly, his life was bound to change.

Soon, the car arrived at a warehouse by the seashore. Following the woman, Cui Qi entered the warehouse full of curiosity. Inside were many beds and unfamiliar faces.

She introduced, "They are like you, recent recruits. From now on, you will be comrades. You leave for overseas training tomorrow."

"Overseas?" Cui Qi was puzzled but silenced by her stern look. He knew he shouldn’t ask more questions. He just needed to obey the arrangements.

When the woman left, Cui Qi sat on an empty bed. Seeing other people’s aloof and vigilant eyes, he knew that they were all as new as him, unsure of what lay ahead, thus they too were cautious.

Deciding not to think too much, Cui Qi concluded his life was already a mess, and it could not get any worse. He laid down and slept, looking forward to tomorrow’s arrangements.

The next day, everyone, including Cui Qi, was arranged to board a cargo ship, leaving for training in another country.

The woman was also on board. She found a deserted corner, then dialed a phone number: "Hey, Sister Leng, everything is arranged well. The newcomer is on the way. For now, everything is going as planned. You can rest assured."

On the other side, Cui Qi stood on deck, leaning on the railing and looking at the receding dock. There was a touch of worry in his eyes, as if bothered by something.

Three days afterward, Zhuo Hang looked at his phone with a meaningful smile, seemingly pleased. This sparked Su Hui’s curiosity.

Under Su Hui’s persistent questioning, Zhuo Hang informed her about an informant who he had not heard from in three days. It seemed that the agent had successfully infiltrated the mysterious organization as planned. This was thanks to Su Hui and Gu Fan for determining the organization’s recruitment patterns. Zhuo Hang happened to have such an informant and had sent him to this city.
