Those Classmates who Suddenly Disappeared
Chapter 213: Who Is It Exactly

Chapter 213: Chapter 213: Who Is It Exactly

It was late at night when Su Hui, radiant and dolled up, returned home, humming a tune to herself. It was clear from her demeanor that she’d had a delightful date. There is a saying that "a woman in love becomes more beautiful," and it was certainly true for Su Hui.

However, Gu Fan was not in the mood to notice. He sat cross-legged on the sofa, arms folded as he gazed at a small device on the coffee table, his expression serious.

"Why the long face?" asked Su Hui, approaching him. Being ridiciously observant, she immediately recognized the small device Gu Fan was focusing on to be a tracking device.

Her curiosity piqued, Su Hui quickly asked, "What’s going on with this tracking device? Where did you get it?"

"It was inside my old phone," Gu Fan responded, his face darkening, a hint of annoyance in his tone.

Upon hearing this, Su Hui frowned. "Didn’t your old phone get water-damaged back in Qianye Mausoleum? Could it be that this tracker was inserted into your phone even before that?"

Gu Fan nodded in confirmation. "Exactly. So, I am wondering who could have possibly installed this tracking device in my phone. Who had access to my phone?"

Throwing in her own thought, Su Hui added, "You are the one who used your phone most, and next to you was Lin Xi, who was your girlfriend then."

Gu Fan sighed heavily, "That’s what I thought too. Seems she had recovered her memory much earlier and installed the tracker in my phone before we entered the outer region. She wanted to keep tabs on my whereabouts, control everything to her advantage."

As Su Hui listened to Gu Fan’s conjecture, both regarding motives and opportunity, Lin Xi seemed the most likely suspect.

"So, what do you plan to do now, given that everything has already passed?" The moment Su Hui finished her question, she saw Gu Fan’s visibly irked expression. "I can’t let it slide! She hid beside me, used me for her objectives. What does she think of me?" As he finished, he stood abruptly, put on his shoes, and rushed out looking like he was about to settle scores.

This worried Su Hui a little. As a friendly reminder, she called after him, "Don’t let your emotions get the best of you. You can’t defeat the current Lin Xi. She not only has supernatural powers but also has a strong line-up of subordinates."

"I know, all I want are answers," Gu Fan said as he rushed out. Seeing him off, Su Hui grew worried, visualizing a battered Gu Fan after an encounter with Lin Xi.

After a while, Gu Fan appeared under Lin Xi’s building and called her, asking her to come down and meet him as he had something important to discuss.

Thinking there must be something important necessitating such a late-night meet up, Lin Xi descended out of curiosity, only to find an irate Gu Fan. It seemed trouble was headed her way.

Having done nothing to offend Gu Fan lately, a clueless Lin Xi walked up and asked, "Why the sudden visit? Didn’t you say you wanted to draw the line?"

Gu Fan brought out the tracker, struggling to suppress his anger, and said, "This tracking device was found in my old phone. I don’t know when it was installed, but I’m certain it was before we entered the outer region. Back then, there were not many people who had access to my phone."

"What are you trying to say, you suspect me?" Lin Xi frowned, her discontentment clearly displayed. "You came all the way here in the dead of night to question me about this?"

With a cold laugh, Gu Fan said, "I once thought I was foolish to have given my all for a woman who didn’t love me and only used me. Eventually, I managed to let go. However, when I found this tracking device, my wound opened up all over again. I want to ask, just how many tricks like this did you pull off behind my back when you were hiding beside me, watching me give up everything, leading everyone to help you find your destination?"

"I ...." Lin Xi tried to justify herself, but the accusatory gaze from Gu Fan rendered her speechless. Over the surge of anger, she retorted dismissively, "Think whatever you like. I know you’ve already labeled me as a bad woman who toyed with your feelings. Nothing I say would make a difference now."

Gu Fan stared at Lin Xi intently, then in a more serious tone asked, "Are you saying that you didn’t plant this tracker in my phone?"

Lin Xi scoffed, "Even if I deny it, would you believe me?"

"As long as you adamantly deny having done so, I will believe you," Gu Fan’s decisive words left Lin Xi slightly in shock, stirring unfamiliar feelings deep within her.

"I can assert that I didn’t plant the tracker. I’ve never done such a thing." Lin Xi’s response slightly eased Gu Fan’s tension. He then warned, "Fine, I believe you didn’t do it. But if I ever find out that you’ve deceived me again, this will be the last time I trust you." Having said this, he turned his back to her and walked away, showing no signs of reluctance to leave.

As Gu Fan left, he thought to himself, if Lin Xi was telling the truth, that she and the tracker had nothing to do with each other, then who could have placed it? Besides himself, the other suspects included Lin Xi, his then-girlfriend, and his two best friends: Lu Yi and Jie.

Gu Fan completely trusted Lu Yi and Jie and was unwilling to believe that one of them could do it. After much thought, there remained another person - Su Hui. The two lived under the same roof, and Su Hui had indeed come in contact with Gu Fan’s phone.

To install a tracking device in Gu Fan’s phone, two conditions had to be met. The first was the opportunity to touch Gu Fan’s phone, and the second was to install the tracking device in Gu Fan’s phone unobserved.

After giving it some thought, Gu Fan realized that the only one who could touch his phone and also take it away unnoticed was Lin Xi. But Lin Xi had made it clear that she didn’t do it, and Gu Fan chose to believe her.

"This is really strange, who on earth could have done it? Could someone have installed it there for no reason?" Gu Fan couldn’t make sense of it, feeling somewhat confused. He knocked his head with his phone and suddenly looked surprised, as if he was jolted by a realization.

Meanwhile, Lin Xi and Du Jun had gotten in touch. She asked him detailed questions about whether he had installed a tracking device in Gu Fan’s phone before going to the Outlands. However, Du Jun stated that he never had a chance to get close to Gu Fan, not to mention touching his phone.

Gu Fan and Lin Xi were both contemplating the same possibility. There were three groups of people who went to the Outlands at that time. The first group was them, the second was the old town, and the third was the mysterious power.

At that time, Du Jun was the insider of the old town. So, if they wanted to know their whereabouts, they just needed to install a tracking device on Du Jun. This suggests that the tracking device on Gu Fan’s phone might have been installed by that mysterious power.

The thought of this made Gu Fan feel a shiver. He wondered how the person from the mysterious power got close to him and installed a tracking tracker in his phone.

Gu Fan had already ruled out Lin Xi, Lu Yi, Jie, and Su Hui. He tried to recall all the people who had touched his phone, including family, friends, neighbors, college roommates, meaning to leave no stone unturned. However, so much time had passed that he couldn’t remember how many people had come into contact with his phone.

If the person could install a tracker in his old phone without him knowing, it was highly likely they could do the same in his new phone. Looking at his phone now, Gu Fan felt an icy chill creeping up his back.

"For the sake of safety, should I inspect this phone?" No sooner had he entertained this thought than he shook his head. This phone was a gift from Leng Le, who had occasionally touched it, too.

There was another thing. Gu Fan and Su Hui lived under the same roof. When Gu Fan was taking a bath or doing other things, his phone was left aside. Su Hui had the opportunity to sneak a tracker into his phone without Gu Fan knowing about it.

Also, when playing games in the dorm room, Gu Fan would sometimes leave his phone aside. Lu Yi and Jie also had such opportunities.

If a tracker was found in his new phone, it would mean that there was a traitor among them. Gu Fan didn’t want to be overly suspicious and resent anyone.

"It’s tough, really tough." Gu Fan scratched his head. When he got home, he saw that Su Hui hadn’t slept yet and had been waiting for him.

As soon as Gu Fan returned, Su Hui immediately checked him over, "How are you? You didn’t lose an arm or a leg, right? Lin Xi just let you come back? That’s not like her at all."

Gu Fan laughed and said sarcastically, "What ’style’ are you talking about? How much do you even know about the current Lin Xi?"

Su Hui curiously asked, "So, did you confront her? Any results?"

"Lin Xi said she hadn’t done it, she hadn’t put a tracking device in my phone. I chose to believe her." No sooner had Gu Fan finished speaking than Su Hui burst into laughter: "I think you just didn’t dare to not believe her in front of her, otherwise you’d have gotten beaten up."

At this, Gu Fan lost his patience, "Sister Su, if you keep mocking me like this, we won’t be able to have a proper conversation."

"Alright, I admit I was wrong. Go ahead and say what’s on your mind." Holding back laughter, Su Hui listened to Gu Fan’s numerous conjectures and couldn’t help but nod. "Not bad, kid. Everyone is under suspicion, even me. Did we go on an adventure in the Outlands with you for nothing?"

Gu Fan quickly apologized, "Alright, alright, it was my fault. I shouldn’t have suspected you. Sister Su, please analyze the situation with your professional perspective."

Upon hearing this, Su Hui tilted her head, stroked her chin and thought hard for a while before chuckling dryly, "It seems like your analysis isn’t entirely unreasonable. I can’t think of any other possibilities either. However, suspecting me is absolutely wrong, so exclude me from the list of suspects."

Upon hearing this, Gu Fan almost rolled his eyes. Feeling irked, he said, "While we’re at it, let’s just exclude everyone. I don’t want to suspect anyone of you and ruin our relationship. I’d rather believe that someone sneaked in while I was sleeping and installed the tracker."

After hearing this, Su Hui shook her head without thinking, "The odds of that happening are almost zero."
