Chapter 89: Chapter 83: Moon Kingdom, Ladder of Clouds

"Is it the influence of that witch tool?" Lucien silently watched Lilia, whose expression had become increasingly difficult to restrain, and his wariness towards the doll named Adeline deepened.

From the time he first met Lilia, she was a Third-level Wizard Apprentice proficient in ice-type witchcraft, which also granted her a certain characteristic calmness.

However, as the days changed, Lilia’s personality had become incredibly fractious, making it hard for Lucien not to associate her with that eerie cloth doll.

"Wizard Mentor Lucien," Carly touched the purple leaf imprint in her palm, feeling somewhat nervous.

After all, it was one of the keys to unlocking the ruins, and having it in her possession made Carly feel extraordinarily uneasy.

"It’s fine, it’s just for use when we open the ruins later," Lucien reassured Carly, but he also understood that a command token specifically requested by Bennett likely had other uses inside the ruins. Carly keeping the token was more advantageous than disadvantageous for both of them.

Bennett glanced at Carly and slightly lowered his head, feeling a bit resentful.

Just as the half-fairy had mentioned earlier, it was a command token for inheriting power within the ruins. He had originally requested it for himself, but it ended up being snagged by Carly.

"Had I known fusing with the token required a half-fairy’s identity, I should have..." Bennett took a deep breath, suppressing the complex emotions in his heart, and then he turned to discuss the details of cooperation with the Fairy Clan leader.

The tense atmosphere between half-fairies and wizard apprentices had eased slightly by then. However, the two groups, who had been clashing earlier, naturally could not be amicable and were clearly divided into two factions, coldly sizing each other up and ready to resume fighting at any moment.

The cooperation Bennett and the Fairy Clan leader were discussing seemed to have temporarily paused the conflict, transferring the final battlefield from their current location into the fairy ruins.

At that moment, as details were finalized, the two groups maintained a safe distance from each other, vigilantly moving forward.

Compared to the half-fairies who were more clustered together, the wizards’ side appeared somewhat loose. Perhaps due to recent events, Lilia exuded an aura that warned others to stay away.

Even her students dared not come near their mentor and instead followed at a distance behind Lilia, making her presence somewhat conspicuous among the wizard apprentices.

However, Lilia did not notice this, as she was holding Adeline, who had "grown" quite a bit, resembling a "mature little miss" who didn’t quite fit in.

"Wizard Mentor Lucien, we are nearly at the center of the island," Carly whispered to Lucien, "and... I feel the voice becoming clearer. It’s saying..."

"Come here, my child..." Carly closed her eyes, seemingly intently feeling the call she received, "Embrace the inheritance... the baptism..."

Carly softly spoke each syllable’s meaning, but soon she closed her mouth as the group had stopped, and in front of them was a deep pit, below which lay an ancient stone platform that had been excavated and cleared.

The stone platform was engraved with many complex and exquisite carvings, which were originally even coated with special paints. However, due to prolonged burial and erosion, these beautiful and ancient Fairy Clan style engravings had suffered extensive damage, leaving only one or two places still intact enough to give a glimpse into their original splendid appearance.

The Fairy leader stepped onto the stone platform and, after a bit of exploration, triggered a hidden mechanism.

Following a surge of Magic Essence, a faint pale green light illuminated the stone platform, and the carvings on it slowly began to move, as if the Magic Beasts, Fairies, and plants depicted on it had suddenly come to life.

"A relic... underground?" Lucien, observing the now-activated relic entrance, couldn’t help but be curious about the ancient Fairy’s methods.

"No, Instructor Lucien, that voice said the ’Kingdom’ is called ’Moon Kingdom’. I think it might not be underground, but rather in the sky," Carly whispered her opinion regretfully, as the dense fog around hindered her view, preventing her from seeing any changes in the sky.

"The key—I now need pure Fairy blood, that of the Moon essence." After tinkering for a while, the Fairy leader stopped his actions and then looked towards Lucien and Carly.

Carly was about to reach out to draw her own blood, but Lucien stopped her. With a wave of his hand, he took out a small test tube from his Space Ring. This was a sample of Moon essence’s pure blood he had previously kept for his study. However, now was the most appropriate time to use it.

After all, with the strange Witch Tool doll, Adeline, present, Lucien dared not let Carly’s blood sample fall into external hands, as if Lilia got hold of it, Carly’s life would be entirely in her control.

"This should be enough," Lucien said, tossing the test tube to the Fairy leader.

The Fairy leader gave Lucien a deep look, said nothing further, and swiftly operated the relic’s stone platform, dropping the provided essence blood onto a sprouting bud. Then, the stone platform started to tremble slightly amidst a humming sound, as if something was about to emerge from within it.

At that moment, the fog over Kosai Island became even denser, and when the fog had thickened to its limit, it began to rapidly contract.

Whoosh whoosh whoosh—

The fog quickly contracted and gathered, eventually solidifying into a material resembling white jade, forming a gate with ancient carved patterns on the upper right side of the stone platform.

From beneath the gate, fog began to tilt down, slowly forming one staircase after another, the final step landing perfectly on top of the stone platform.

"Hold on, both you and I will need to use the hands marked with the command token to push this door open," the Fairy leader said to Carly, then strode towards the special "cloud ladder".

"We need to go up too," Lucien said, looking at this unique cloud ladder. He instinctively wanted to use the system’s appraisal function on it, but his expression quickly changed. To appraise this special gate and cloud ladder required a whopping 1000 points of reverence!
