Chapter 88: Listing Testimonial
Phew, we’ve actually reached the time to launch in the blink of an eye. As a newcomer to writing, many parts weren’t handled very well, and I’m thankful for everyone’s understanding and companionship.
Let me start with the main point.
Watermelon here first wants to thank all the book friends for your support, without your company, this book wouldn’t have been possible. Here’s wishing all the handsome guys and beautiful ladies in front of the screen a smooth life and may all your wishes come true.
On the day of the launch, there was an update of 12,000 words, thereafter it will continue daily with at least 10,000 words for at least a week. Subsequently, while ensuring quality, there will be intermittent daily updates of 10,000 words, with a guaranteed 6,000 to 8,000 words, mainly because sometimes I need to organize my thoughts, doing daily tens of thousands is a bit too exhausting...
[The speed speech is over, below is the author’s pre-launch rambling]
-----------------
Honestly, I never expected this book to get to where it is today. Even now, I still feel quite unreal, especially since I started this book purely by accident.
Initially, when I was in book friend group of Shui Erquan, Shui Erquan suddenly posted a short essay suggesting we try online literature. I wasn’t busy at the time, and it was during a period when I was running out of books to read, so I thought why not give it a try and started browsing online forums and looking for information.
The initial idea for this book was to combine Pet Beasts with Wizards.
Wizards were one of the first categories I came across in online literature, and Pet Beasts were a theme I enjoyed at the time. The initial concept was akin to a druid route, forming contracts with Magic Beasts and then gradually leveling up and growing in this western fantasy Pet Beast literature.
However, after looking at some online literature tutorials and scanning the rankings and similar works, I found that there were simply too many new authors for Pet Beast themes, and everyone was following a similar "breeder" or "researcher" path, making me feel that I couldn’t write anything new.
So I started to exercise my creativity. While searching for inspiration on Bilibili, I suddenly saw a phrase "I don’t want to be human anymore!" and it felt like someone had kicked my brain.
Pet Beasts are written as companions, so could I change "Pet Beast" to "Control Humans" or "Control Companions"? This idea for a tutorial suddenly became clear, and then I just buried my head and wow, wrote nearly forty thousand words in the first draft, then excitedly tested it out on my roommate.
After burying my roommate under it, I retreated into my shell.
But I just couldn’t let it go, feeling that what I wrote was pretty good.
So, with the thought that "the worst they can do is kick me out of the group chat," I directly sent my first draft to Shui Erquan via private chat in the QQ group.
hhh... Looking back now, I feel like I was really brave at that time.
Thanks to Shui Erquan, who not only checked out the theme for me but also seriously reviewed my opening and then provided detailed suggestions for revisions. After adjusting my draft according to Shui Da’s suggestions, I had the opening I have today.
Then came the book launch, and signing the contract, all in one go.
However, I must admit, as a complete newbie, there are some areas I haven’t considered very thoroughly.
Because the original idea was a Pet Beast story, some of the plot handling at the beginning was more spontaneous, inspired by some Pet Beast stories I had read about interactions between the protagonist and his students. But sometimes, the interaction between humans and pets is different from that between people... [Covers face]
Plus, there were other minor issues occurring frequently. I felt quite reclusive for a while, my mind a mess.
Fortunately, I still persevered. Originally, I didn’t even want to look at the data anymore, just thinking about finishing the book and then looking back to see what issues there were. But sometimes, things developed beyond my expectations.
I saw a book friend passing by in the comment section asking why this book could also reach Sanjiang.
emmm, actually, Watermelon the newbie would like to know too.
When my editor [No Books] called me about Sanjiang, I was totally dumbfounded.
[No Books]: Congratulations, Sanjiang on Sunday.
[Watermelon]: Huh? Me?
[Watermelon]: Boss, don’t mess with me, got it wrong, right?
[No Books]: Just tell me if you want it or not
[No Books]: Knock.gif
hhh... Watermelon was so shamelessly awake all night, wondering if something had been mixed up.
Also, a shoutout to Watermelon’s editor [No Books]!
The most handsome among male editors, capable and patient. Although the author group is full of rebels and the hierarchy is tough, boss please believe in my loyalty!
Although I initially pitched to the boss because I saw on Tieba that the boss had a high passage rate, so I decided to give up on the boss I was going to pitch to (this section is struck through).
No Books is definitely an editor friendly to newcomers; previously, when the recommendation effect was poor, wanting to change a synopsis, the boss helped me... ah, not helped, corrected it nearly 20 times, never impatient. No matter how naive the question, the boss always answered...
It moved me to tears.
Loyalty to No Books forever!!!
Here also strongly recommend No Books, if you want to try writing, just go find him in group four. If you encounter any problems while writing, don’t be embarrassed, ask the boss, ask the boss, ask the boss.
If the boss doesn’t reply, just add more emojis.
As long as you’re not embarrassed, the pressure is on No Books then.
By the way, remember not to mention my name when the time comes; I’ve never cared about those trivialities. [Dog Head]
Finally, thanks to all the book friends who have been with us all along! Thank you for your company, and also for your understanding and support for Watermelon! Watermelon has nothing else to give back but to write the book well and live up to everyone’s trust and support for Watermelon.
