Chapter 87: Chapter 82: Cooperation, Fury
"Back off!" Lucien had already rushed back and was looking at the outrageously burly youngster in front of him. Although he was somewhat surprised by the exaggerated physical strength of the opponent, he was not afraid.
After all, judging by the somewhat unstable aura emanating from him, this fellow was merely in some sort of special enhancement state. Aside from the excessively exaggerated physical enhancement, he seemed rather confused in other aspects, and his combat skills were a complete mess.
Killing him might prove difficult, but if it was just about incapacitating him or trapping him, it would be easy.
At this moment, what concerned Lucien more were the shouting voices of the half-fairies all around.
"The Key?" Lucien couldn’t help but look towards Carly.
Carly’s camouflage had already failed, revealing the distinctive features of a Half-moon elf.
Not to mention, the bloodline ability [Moon Veil] that she had just triggered, was a bloodline skill only the Moon Elf clan could master.
But what did she have to do with the key? Or could it be... Carly’s bloodline?
Lucien took a deep breath, truly feeling a sense of blessing or calamity. The Bloodline that had brought improvement and help to Carly was now the very trigger that got both him and Carly into trouble.
"The Key!" The half-fairies looked towards Lucien and Carly, their eyes filled with madness. Even the half-fairies lurking around, and those engaged in fierce battle with Bennett’s group, seemed to gravitate towards where Lucien and Carly were.
Meanwhile, Bennett and Lilia, who were just fighting with the half-fairies, heard the cries of these creatures. Although they did not understand what the ’key’ mentioned by them meant, it was clear to everyone that they had to prevent their opponents from getting what they wanted, at all costs!
Now both sides were converging on Lucien and Carly’s position, turning this place into the vortex of a chaotic battle zone.
"Roar!" The sturdy and burly youngster seemed to have received new orders. With a low growl, he charged toward Lucien, ready to entangle him at the cost of his own life.
But by this time, Bennett and Lilia had also arrived. Bennett waved his hand, and countless fine threads flew out, binding the youngster tightly. Before they could finish him off, however, they were entangled again by another half-fairy that looked rather aged, resulting in a fierce fight between the two.
As for Lilia, she was controlling a sinister doll named Adeline. Even though she didn’t strike, she brought great deterrence to the half-fairies. Even the aged half-fairy that had been tangling with Bennett decided to retreat several steps and regroup with its kin.
Bennett withdrew, but his first action was to look at Carly with a vigilant gaze in his eyes.
Lucien waved his hand, collecting the body of the Level 3 Wizard Apprentice half-fairy he had just killed into his Space Ring.
At this moment, the surviving Wizard Apprentices and the remaining half-fairies stood off at a distance, each side wary of the other.
"Humans!" the female leader of the half-fairies stepped forward, her gaze briefly flitting over Edeline, who was then being held by Lilia and whose body had swelled somewhat, before looking directly at Carly, who was being protected in the center of the group.
"Hand over that apprentice, and you will gain our friendship," the fairy leader said, pointing at Carly, then exerting a pressure far exceeding that of a Third-level Wizard Apprentice, "Otherwise, none of you will escape today!"
"Hmph, if it’s a fight you want, we haven’t just fought," Lilia glanced at Carly beside her and licked her lips, while the doll Edeline in her arms revealed a somewhat eerie smile.
There was a hint of wariness in the fairy leader’s eyes.
She didn’t care about the strength of this female wizard apprentice, but the witch tool was just too bizarre. She had suffered a big loss when exchanging blows just now, and if she hadn’t forcefully broken free from that strange link, she might have been sucked dry by the doll.
Additionally, the strength of this group of wizard apprentices was indeed beyond her expectations. If they really continued fighting, not many of her people would survive. In the Fairy Sanctuary, she still needed some subordinates to act as the vanguard...
More importantly, she might suffer severe injuries and lose the precious opportunity to explore the ruins on Kosai Island.
With these thoughts, the fairy leader’s desire to fight gradually subsided. She unwillingly stared at the doll Edeline in Lilia’s arms and let out a sigh.
"Negotiation." She took a deep breath, her blue eyes then turned towards the group of wizard apprentices. "I suppose you’re also here for the ruins on Kosai Island, fighting us to the death. But we possess the key to the ruins. If we decide to leave, even if you find the entrance, you won’t be able to get in. So, why not cooperate?"
Cooperate? The expressions of the other half-fairies changed slightly, but then they helplessly acknowledged that this was indeed the best course of action for the moment.
"Cooperate?" Lucien glanced at Bennett and Lilia beside him. Although he wasn’t very interested in the ruins, he understood that now Carly had become the essential "key" to unlocking the ruins. If he didn’t want to give her up, he would have to enter the ruins as well.
Bennett looked at Carly, then turned his gaze toward the fairy leader. "We can cooperate, but one of the two Purple Leaf Command Tokens needed to open the fairy ruins must be in our possession. That’s a prerequisite for cooperation. You should also understand that as long as one Command Token is with you, we won’t be able to open the ruins on our own."
The fairy leader hesitated for a moment but soon narrowed her eyes slightly. She waved her hand, and a ray of purple light shot directly towards Lucien and his companions, the very Command Token described by Bennett.
Lilia reached out to catch the Purple Leaf Command Token, but it passed straight through her palm. After making a slight arc in the air, it landed on Carly’s right hand and quickly merged into a Purple Leaf Emblem resting in the center of her palm.
"Fool, only descendants containing the Fairy Bloodline can merge with the legacy command tokens," scoffed a half-fairy, seeing Lilia’s attempt.
Lilia narrowed her eyes, the anger in them barely concealable, as if a restless voice in her heart was constantly urging her, nearly driving her to act impulsively.
Fortunately, reason prevailed over anger in the end. However, Lilia stared intently at the half-fairy, then turned her gaze back to Lucien and Carly, as if she intended to deeply imprint their faces in her memory.
