Chapter 85: Chapter 80: Plague of Snakes

"Stick close to me!" Almost instantly, the scene descended into chaos. "Lucien let out a low command as an Ice Shield materialized in front of him, slowly leading Carly toward the front of the group.

Several quick-witted, weaker apprentices recognized Lucien and gathered around him, seeing him as a pillar of strength in the confusion. Following a Third-level Wizard Apprentice undoubtedly offered them a semblance of safety!

Carly, on the other hand, drew her bow. The thick fog might severely impair others’ vision, but she could "see" the enemy through a mysterious Perception, so the Fog Tide acted more like a natural barrier for her.

At the same time, the poison stored within a compartment of the Origin Bow began to activate and quickly combined with the arrows under Carly’s control, forming a series of deadly magic arrows.

Releasing the string, the arrows flew out and after they disappeared into the thick fog, screams could be heard not too far away.

"Nice shot!" Lucien complimented, but he didn’t attack. Instead, he remained vigilant, scanning the surroundings, ready to defend against any sudden attacks or half-fairies that might burst forth.

In this chaos, survival and defense were the priorities!

Two Second-level Wizard Apprentices who had followed alongside were also watchful, conjuring their magic and braced for battle.

Yet Carly didn’t pause. Her magic arrows, now coated with deadly poison, launched one after another. Aside from some intercepted by the half-fairies’ magic, those arrows that went through struck the half-fairies within the Fog Tide with deadly accuracy, quickly incapacitating them under the poison’s effects.

"Is this the combat strength of his only student? The power of her archery seems almost as formidable as Gagarin and the others," the other two apprentices observed with a mix of shock and admiration.

Normally, Carly didn’t stand out among those weaker apprentices who had followed. Besides having the title of Lucien’s sole student, her combat abilities had hardly intimidated the other apprentices, and there were even rumors that she was kept by his side because she wasn’t good in combat...

However, at this moment, their perception of Carly changed drastically.

How could this be considered poor at combat? If this was being bad at it, then what were they?

"I heard she used to be the weakest, with only first-rate aptitude?" one of the more astute apprentices glanced at Carly and then looked at Lucien with fervent eyes. However, that fervor quickly faded.

If possible, he desperately wished to become Lucien’s student! Perhaps after becoming his student, his strength could soar just like Carly’s...

Unfortunately, he already had a mentor, and even if he desired to be apprenticed to Lucien, whether Lucien would accept him was another matter altogether.

As the thoughts swirled in this apprentice’s head, the commotion caused by Carly still drew the attention of the group of half-fairies.

Soon, a male half-fairy exuding the fluctuations of a Third-level Wizard Apprentice spotted Carly. Grasping a dark, grimy staff, he charged toward her.

Behind him followed two Second-level Wizard Apprentices. The trio formed a small assault team and, after swiftly killing a weak apprentice who crossed their path, they converged in a pincer movement toward Carly and Lucien’s location.

"Kill them all!" The one with the black staff roared, hastening his steps toward Carly.

Lucien narrowed his eyes.

With a wave of his hand, three Ice Shields instantly rose in front of the fog-figure wielding a wooden stick. The latter swung the stick, smashing it heavily onto the Ice Shields that Lucien had conjured.

Boom—The force of the impact pushed the fog-figure half a step backward, while several fine cracks appeared on the surface of one of the Ice Shields.

"It’s only the combat strength of a regular Third-level Wizard Apprentice," Lucien sized up the half-fairy in front of him. However, he didn’t unleash his true power to kill his opponent but, instead, exhibited the strength of an ordinary Third-level Wizard Apprentice, defending against the half-fairy’s attacks in a highly "perilous" manner.

At this time, the majority of his attention was focused on Lilia and Bennett. Although the thick fog made it difficult to see clearly, Lucien could feel the aftershocks of the battle there distinctly.

Under Lucien’s protection, Carly was able to shoot her bow with abandon, without needing to distract herself with defending against the enemy’s attacks. Her exquisite archery, combined with the venom specially concocted by Lucien for these half-fairies, made the arrows far more lethal than the witchcraft itself could inflict.

One could say that Carly’s arrows were the nightmare of those average Second-level Wizard Apprentices among the half-fairies.

If Carly hadn’t transformed into a half-fairy and needed to be careful not to get affected by the poison herself, her attack frequency could have been even higher.

With the support of the two apprentices who had moved closer, Carly took down another Second-level Wizard Apprentice. She notched her arrow, but this time she aimed at the half-fairy fog currently engaged with Lucien, hoping the potent poison on her arrows would greatly reduce the combat strength of this Third-level Wizard Apprentice.

Suddenly, from within the large battle circle where Lilia and Bennett were fighting, an explosive force far greater than what a typical Third-level Wizard Apprentice could unleash burst forth, followed by a thunderous roar.

"Such explosive power, it must have exceeded 1000P, right? Just not sure if it’s a one-time damage caused by some special Witch Tool or an eruption of power from one of the half-fairies."

Lucien looked somewhat surprised at the area where the power had just surged. Purely in terms of power, that strike was close to the energy level of a Formal Wizard.

But one thing he was certain of was that the force behind this level of attack came from the half-fairy side, as the aftershock carried a barely discernible scent of plant-based witchcraft which was too easy to recognize.

"It seems that this group of fairies has used their hidden trump cards; therefore, I no longer need to hold back. Otherwise, it could get troublesome if I end up being entangled by this half-fairy later on."

Lucien squinted his eyes slightly, gazing at the half-fairy that clearly wanted to prevent him from leaving, a hint of ruthlessness in his gaze.

The next moment, under his control, the vial of poison quickly flew out and under the influence of the magic model, condensed into three lifelike green pythons that sprang towards the half-fairy.

Zero-level Witchcraft "Deadly Poison Snake Circle." This move evolved from the Zero-level Witchcraft "Circle of Deadly Poison," but it was much more flexible!

The fog-figure, who had been confidently fighting Lucien, swung his staff with assurance. But in the next moment, the three tiny deadly poison snakes dodged his attack in an incredibly intricate manner. Working in concert, they quickly put the fog-figure—who had just been confident in constraining Lucien—in a dangerous and frantic state.

He desperately called upon the power of his Bloodline magic to aid his defense, while anxiously crying out for help from his companions.

"Rue, help me, help me out! I can’t hold on much longer!"
