Chapter 790: Chapter 396: The City of Eternal Night Opens, Every Second Counts_3
The City of Eternal Night was enveloped in a massive black spherical barrier, entirely shrouding the city within it.
Outside the barrier, the moon shone brightly with twinkling stars scattering its soft glow across the vast landscape, illuminating it as if it were the middle of the day. But within the barrier, there was nothing but pitch-black darkness, so dark that one couldn’t see their hand before their eyes.
Of course, since this was not underground, the natural phenomenon of a ’lightless night’ that occurred in Dark City did not present here. This ’eternal night barrier’ only purpose was to create darkness. It did not restrict light sources.
"Everyone, check your shadows immediately!" The Tyrant ordered. The Ghost Captain’s ability to travel freely through shadows had left a profound impression on him—it was an ability too unpredictable and needed to be constantly watched for.
Upon his command, everyone conjured various illumination spells and cast them around, especially towards the ground at their feet. Fortunately, they did not notice any abnormalities.
"It seems that they have already left..." The Tyrant nodded. The Ghost Captain had previously snatched fragment one, so it was entirely normal for them to have found the route out now.
A pale-skinned youth took this opportunity to share the information he had recently obtained about the Ghost Captain with the Tyrant.
"Manipulating probability events?"
Upon hearing this, the Tyrant frowned. This was undoubtedly an exasperating ability!
Collecting his thoughts, the Tyrant turned to the three players responsible for guarding the fragments and sternly said, "From now on, no fragment should be moved without my express order!"
"Yes!" The players’ characters responded in unison.
"Move as fast as possible!"
Upon the Tyrant’s command, a group of werewolves immediately switched to their rapid marching mode, transforming into huge wolves. Under the leadership of the Wolf King, they darted amid the ruins of this city.
It was now a true race against time. The Lunar Phase Scroll brought the full moon ahead of schedule, so there was no longer a need to wait. Whoever reached the central area first would take control as the City Lord!
The Tyrant wasn’t too worried about this, though. Even though the adversaries were momentarily ahead, they lacked the map to sector two, so once they reached sector two, it was certain they would be caught up!
...
Meanwhile, as the members of Blood Dawn raced to their destination, the intense battle between the vampires and the werewolves continued out in the open.
After such brutal combat, both sides had suffered heavy casualties. However, this only made everybody more desperate and blood-thirsty, leaving no chance of stopping.
"Woof!"
Until at one point, a loud horn sound echoed from the horizon.
The werewolves below were momentarily stunned, turning to see a silver werewolf standing atop a distant hill, sounding a dramatic horn.
This horn, known as the ’Wolf King Horn,’ its sound basically equates to the Wolf King’s command. The sound at this moment unexpectedly ordered them to cease fighting and withdraw!
The werewolves reluctantly obeyed the Wolf King’s command and reluctantly ceased their attack, covering each other as they retreated.
Luckily, it seemed as though the vampires had also received a similar command, they did not take the opportunity to chase and kill, but stayed in place, watching the werewolves retreat into the distance.
Moments later, both sides were finally separated, with this swath of hard ground in the marsh as their boundary line. They gathered on their respective sides, confronting each other from afar, yet maintaining a tense atmosphere.
A silver werewolf walked out of the werewolf team, it was Cold Night who had just rushed over from Dark City.
"Duke of Brandt, are you there?" Cold Night called out to the Blood Clan on the opposite side.
Seconds later, an old vampire, aided by his servants, emerged from the Blood Clan ranks.
"Duke of Brandt, I’m sure you understand the current situation. The real backers of this war have already moved the battlefield; what follows is an internal competition between the fools. Our continued fighting will yield no results; instead, it will only result in mutual losses—harming both of us."
"So, how about we cease the fight?" Cold Night yelled across the divide.
"All right, let’s call a truce."
Of course, Brandt didn’t insist. In fact, he was more desperate than anyone to stop the fight. After all, the werewolves risked it all for their king, while his group was essentially hired help. Now that the assigned task was completed, continuing to let his clan lose even more lives would be unwise.
"About the hostages previously captured by your side..." Cold Night asked again. During the previous fight at the chaotic grave-mound, his side had more than a hundred werewolf captives taken by the vampires. It was not a small number, and if ignored, the ordinary werewolves were sure to protest.
"That would depend on your sincerity!" Brandt replied with a smile.
His meaning was clear; they would not release the captives. If they wanted the captives back, they would have to trade something of value.
This news immediately upset the werewolves, who snarled and howled in threatening defiance, their cacophonous growls becoming incessant.
The Blood Clan, of course, wouldn’t allow themselves to be outdone. They bared their fangs and claws against the werewolves, both sides itching for a confrontation, both ready at a moment’s notice for fighting to resume.
"Silence!"
Swiftly, Cold Night rushed back and forth wielding the Wolf King’s Horn, managing to suppress the werewolves’ rebellion.
Brandt, on the other hand, merely raised his hand, and the vampires quieted down. One by one, they looked arrogantly at the werewolves, seemingly laughing at their savagery.
"Once this matter ends, we will specifically arrange for an envoy to negotiate the prisoner exchange with you." Cold Night said through gritted teeth.
"We await your esteemed arrival." Brandt smiled, turned around, and signaled for his clan to leave.
The werewolves remained in place, watching as all the vampires transformed into bats and left the marsh. Only then was their withdrawal complete.
