Chapter 728: Chapter 375: Every Object Has Its Match_3
After a few seconds of stupor, the Shadow Ghost realized it was free, but it didn’t immediately go mad with rage. It slowly turned around, glaring at the middle-aged man in the device, revealing its ferocious nature.
"Clank, clank, clank..."
The breaking of even more chains followed closely after.
Hundreds of shadow ghosts, all regaining their freedom at this very moment.
All the shadow ghosts simultaneously turned their gaze towards the cylindrical device in the center, a powerful aura of berserk anger and hatred radiating from them.
"Bang!"
The first Shadow Ghost took the lead in attacking, shattering the cylindrical device with its blow. The middle-aged man trapped in the liquid was thrust out and ruthlessly slammed into the ground by a ghost’s hand.
The surrounding shadow ghosts all roared in unison, then rushed over to the middle-aged man in a race to attack...
The next few minutes witnessed hundreds of Shadow Ghosts circling the middle-aged man, subjecting him to a merciless massacre.
The man continually resurrected and died again, taking on various forms of Shadow Ghosts to no avail. When all the Shadow Ghost skins were exhausted, he returned to his original form, an old man with white hair, evidently of great age.
The man behind the scenes made no attempts to resist whatsoever, staying quiet throughout, and let the Shadow Ghosts’ claws continually tear his body apart — being ripped to shreds, resurrecting, dying, resurrecting again, and again... until his life completely drained away...
Minutes later, a group of Berserk Shadow Ghosts in the distance were left without any target to vent on. However, even after eliminating the instigator, their satisfaction was far from complete. They quickly turned around, aiming their sights on this side.
’Keeping them alive serves no purpose, better purify them all."
Looking at the approaching crowd of shadow ghosts, Mu You shook his head, and tossed out the Shadow Fur Ball.
The Shadow Fur Ball landed in front of the three, facing the group of incoming Shadow Ghosts, it immediately opened its mouth. A strange fluctuation emitted from it. This fluctuation had no effect on people, but it was the bane of the surrounding Shadow Ghosts.
Under the wave of this fluctuation, all the Shadow Ghosts froze in place, large amounts of black energy rose from their bodies and dissipated into the air. Their sizes rapidly shrunk.
In less than ten seconds, all the Shadow Ghosts had morphed into groups of common shadows. They bounced chaotically on the ground like headless flies, and were eventually all swallowed by the Shadow Fur Ball, stored in the Shadow Space as a year’s supply of backup food.
Of course, not all Shadow Ghosts were purified and vanished. Among them, the Shadow Ghost contently kept its original shape, looking unchanged.
The Shadow Fur Ball quickly turned its attention onto the remaining Shadow Ghosts.
The Shadow Fur Ball defiantly jumped in front of the Shadow Ghost, opened its mouth at it, and emitted a stronger purifying fluctuation.
However, no matter how hard it tried, the Shadow Ghost in front of it didn’t move an inch.
After two unsuccessful attempts, the Shadow Fur Ball seemed somewhat angry. Its little face screwed up as if it were gathering up a bigger fluctuation.
However, before it could prepare, the Shadow Ghost from above seemed to lose its patience. It suddenly slapped the Shadow Fur Ball from above, causing it to bounce back and forth like a rubber ball between the ground and the palm of the Shadow Ghost at least a dozen times. By the time it stopped, the Shadow Fur Ball was completely dazed, its facial features squashed flat.
Still not satisfied, the Shadow Ghost grabbed the Shadow Fur Ball, rolling it around in its hands like a piece of rubber mud, until it finally had its fill and threw it down.
The moment the Shadow Fur Ball hit the ground, it hastily jumped back into Mu You’s shadow as if escaping, quickly drilling into the Shadow Space, no longer daring to show itself.
As the three were watching this amusing spectacle, Mian Mian suddenly felt her eyelids grow heavy and fell forward. Fortunately, Mu You caught her swiftly.
Looking down, Mu You realized that she had fallen into a deep sleep, her narcoleptic attacks occurring without any warning.
"Roar!"
The Shadow Ghost beside them suddenly roared, bubbling with dark energy, and it glared at Mu You, bearing its teeth and claws.
"What? Not my fault. She fell asleep on her own!" Mu You quickly retorted.
"Roar!"
The Shadow Ghost growled again, this time prolonging its voice, as if it were trying to convey something.
"Don’t worry. I’ll take her back to the pet store. I won’t abandon her."
Though Mu You didn’t understand the Shadow Ghost’s words, he had spent a fair amount of time with this creature and could roughly guess what it was trying to express. Shadow Ghosts aren’t very intelligent; they can’t discern right from wrong in the human world, but it and the young girl had both lived in the pet store for a long time, making it the only place they recognized as safe.
The Shadow Ghost hummed in apparent satisfaction at Mu You’s answer, subduing its malevolence.
"What about you? What are your plans now?"
Mu You looked at the Shadow Ghost again, extracted the Shadow Ghost Box, opened the lid, and presented it before the ghost, "If you’re concerned about her, come with me and protect her yourself."
The presence of the Sealed Box made the Shadow Ghost retreat warily. After a moment of hesitation, it suddenly slapped the box away with its clawed hand.
Immediately after, the Shadow Ghost leapt into Mu You’s shadow, transitioning into a dark shadow, and burrowed into Mu You’s shadow.
Mu You quickly bent down to inspect.
Presently in the Shadow Space, the Shadow Ghost was bullying the Shadow Fur Ball, chasing it all around. When caught, the Furball was treated as a stress toy, held in its arms for reckless kneading.
"Indeed, every being meets its match..."
Mu You shook his head, grinning, then made his way to the fallen cylindrical device to pick up the scattered remains of the Shadow Ghost.
However, as he was collecting his loot, a ghastly, blue spirit emerged from the shattered device.
Mu You paused, turning his head slightly to look, he was left speechless, "You sure are durable... you’re still not dead?"
The apparition that appeared was the remnant of the old man’s soul. However, this remnant was becoming increasingly translucent, evidently extremely weak, appearing as if it could disperse at any moment.
A remnant soul forms when a person dies with a strong, unfulfilled hatred or obsession. There’s a certain chance that this results in a remnant soul, but without a special container to store it promptly, it will quickly disperse.
"I was indeed prepared for the end... but just before my demise, I realized that I really cannot reconcile all the things I’ve studied for a thousand years... disappearing with me ...without leaving a trace..." the remnant soul spoke in fragments.
"So?" Mu You arched an eyebrow.
"So... consider this as a reward... for stopping the Shadow God from manifesting and saving the world... The third tile from the north on the innermost side of the Gu Venom Pool platform... beneath it, at approximately fifteen meters... everything I’ve worked on... is stored there..."
