Chapter 717: Chapter 372: Controllable Shadow Ghost Experiment Record_1
The light of the cannon pierced through the underground.
As the white light faded, Mu You looked down to see a large hole a few metres wide in the ground. It was pitch-black below, the bottom invisible.
Mu You raised the palm of the robot. From the Sand Spider Nest on his back, a multitude of tiny mechanical spiders rushed out and scurried into the hole, quickly exploring the deep depths.
A moment later, the first Sand Spider found the entrance to the underground. Mu You gave Lin Xue a nod, and they jumped in, one after the other.
Following the route spotted by the Sand Spider, after a lengthy descent, the two finally saw the light up ahead.
Bursting into the light, they were greeted by a vast underground factory. Lamps illuminating the roads and walls around them, brightening the interior of the factory.
Just as they landed and were unsteady on their feet, a figure suddenly fell from the sky, charging towards them.
But before the figure could close in, Mu You raised his right arm, from which erupted a string of fire. A line of floating bullets strung together in the air, spinning the figure back like a top, leaving a large hole where it hit on the wall behind.
The floating machine gun did no harm, and thus didn’t pose a significant threat to the fallen figure, who turned out to be an elderly witch with a wrinkled face and hunched figure.
Mu You had never seen this person before, but her appearance struck him as familiar: Granny Tang.
The character that had appeared in the game text, the first Admin of the Undead.
Mu You looked behind her, sure enough, she was connected to the shadow of a long-haired girl.
Granny Tang stared maliciously at Mu You and Lin Xue in the distance as a layer of black qi gradually appeared on her body. She quickly transformed into a young woman with long hair. Her eyes glowed red, and all ten of her fingers turned into sharp claws.
The next second, the long-haired woman lunged at them, teeth bared, and claws flashing.
When Mu You first encountered Granny Tang in the game, he was killed instantly. This demonstrated how powerful this Shadow Ghost was. Among humanoid Shadow Ghosts, it was likely one of the strongest.
But no matter how powerful the enemy, they posed no problem. He was not a game character anymore but a man standing here in flesh and blood.
More importantly, he carried the Shadow Fur Ball, a weapon specifically designed to counter Shadow Creatures.
The long-haired woman halted mid-lunge, frozen in her running stance as if she had turned to stone.
Behind her, the shadow lengthened, a ripple bubbled up, followed by a pair of eyes peeking out from a black fur ball, silently observing the outside world.
In front of the Shadow Ghost, Mu You had once again raised the cannon. White light pulsed at the cannon’s mouth, energy rapidly accumulating.
The long-haired woman sensed the lethal threat from the cannon’s mouth and began to tremble, her face distorted in fear. However, she was so tightly bound by the shadow that she couldn’t move to avoid the attack or escape. All she could do was to watch the cannon’s muzzle become brighter and brighter.
This time Mu You had accumulated energy for a full minute before firing.
"Boom!"
A surging energy beam engulfed the woman and pierced through the buildings behind her, blasting a straight path through the complicated underground facility.
After the light faded, there was no sign of the woman, only a cluster of writhing remnants of the shadow remained on the ground.
"Ahhhh...."
As soon as the Shadow Ghost died, Granny Tang was shortly revived not far from them, but she had returned to her elderly form, without any shadow behind her.
The revived Granny Tang let out a chilling scream, throwing herself onto the ground as if she was in unspeakable pain, her nails scratching deep bloody marks on her face, but she seemed utterly oblivious to that.
It didn’t take long for Granny Tang to stop screaming. Her eyes rolled back into her head, and she succumbed unconscious. Her vitality quickly drained away until she was utterly dead.
Within seconds, Granny Tang revived again in a different direction. This time, she didn’t even scream. Her eyes rolled back into her head, her body still. She didn’t show any signs of life. She died again within two seconds of her revival. Her body disappeared quickly.....
"What happened to her?" Lin Xue watched the scene, puzzled.
"Shadow Ghosts are the aggregations of violent and negative emotions. When a person is possessed by a Shadow Ghost, when the ghost is killed, if there’s no other shadow to take on these negative emotions, then all of the negative emotions accumulated by the Shadow Ghost during its existence will be directly absorbed by the host....." Mu You shook his head as he spoke.
Lin Xue was startled at first, then quickly understood.
The ability to turn a shadow into a Shadow Ghost would involve a tremendous accumulation of negative emotions. No living person could endure such a blow. After the revival, the person would immediately suffer brain death due to the onslaught of negative emotions. And it was not a one-time thing, but a repeated process until they could no longer revive.
This was indeed the case. Granny Tang began to relive the cycle of revival and death, and the intervals between her deaths became shorter each time. After dozens of times, she didn’t even have a physical form when she revived. Finally, when her life was utterly drained, it ended. She disappeared from this world forever.
The two of them lamented as they watched the scene unfold and continued on without stopping, following the path that the cannon had blasted.
A moment later, they stood at the entrance to the western section of the underground factory.
This was previously the hiding place of the mysterious antagonist. If that antagonist returned, he would likely hide here again.
