Chapter 572: Chapter 320 Mad Alchemist_3
[You’ve used the Troll Spiritual Niche, summoning the Troll War God and Troll Priest.]
[Outside the cave, the ever-rising roars of the White Ant Beasts echo all around, indicating the Queen Ant is under attack and has thrown the entire ant nest into a berserk state, dashing crazily towards you...]
[The Worker Ants in the worker zone, now awake from their slumber, screech as they rush forward to aid the Queen Ant, but are blocked at the nest entrance by several Tree-men...]
As expected, once the Queen Ant is attacked, the entire ant nest erupts into chaos. However, those soldier ants will need some time to rush back. As for the worker ants residing nearby, these dedicated coolie ants are fine for work, but when it comes to combat, they’re quite weak. Mu You simply assigns a few Tree-men to block the entrance, ensuring these Worker Ants can’t break in.
Mu You then summons a mass of creatures across the field, teaming up with him and Shadow Wolf to launch a full-scale attack on the Queen Ant.
The Queen Ant is a high-level creature, at level 20, with a terrifying HP of 170,000! Thankfully, the Queen Ant has no means of attack. It’s just a meaty mountain that fortifies well against blows, so there’s no fear of being attacked and Mu You can concentrate solely on dealing damage.
Mu You initially planned to use the Troll War God’s Blood Exchange Technique to quickly assassinate the Queen Ant. However, he found out it didn’t work due to the text prompt stating "The Queen White Ant’s current HP is higher than the Troll War God’s upper HP limit; the ability cannot be used."
[Under your relentless attacks, the shrieking of the Ant Queen grows ever more piercing, and its HP visibly begins to plummet.]
[Faced with the threat of death, the Queen White Ant starts laying eggs continuously in self-defense. Premier soldier ant eggs emerge from her rear end, dropping to the ground where the immature soldier ants immediately break free and start attacking you...]
[Shadow Wolf leverages her advantage in archery, draws her bow, and activates her ’Split Arrow’ talent. Each arrow she fires simultaneously produces ten Energy Arrows. Just as a soldier ant appears on the ground, it gets killed instantly by her Split Arrow!]
At this moment, Shadow Wolf finally reveals her prowess. She may be just a level 23 elf, but unlike the defense-oriented Temple Knights, she’s a bona fide warrior. This burst of power immediately shows her strength in attack, outperforming even the berserk Troll War God watching from the side.
"Hurry, hurry, hurry!"
The text starts alerting that ’the first soldier ant’ has appeared at the entrance. The Tree-men seem to be having trouble holding them back, so Mu You quickly assigns a few more summoned creatures over there to block the passage.
What’s left now is a race against time. Mu You hastily presses a hodgepodge of magic buttons on the panel—spell after spell, anything without a cooldown gets thrown indiscriminately at the massive Queen Ant. Seems it will land a hit no matter what.
Under the collective attack from everyone and their summons, the Queen Ant’s HP drops like water running from a fully opened tap. It does, however, get taken down just before the soldier ants make their way in.
[With the help of numerous summoned creatures, you’ve taken down the Queen White Ant. Gained +12 EXP, +1 Lifespan, received 1 ’Ant Queen Egg’.]
[Ant Queen Egg: Carries the offspring of the Ant Queen, imbued with the essence of her life. When placed in appropriate underground conditions and supplied with sufficient energy, it can grow into a new Queen White Ant.]
Having successfully defeated the Queen Ant, Mu You gets a little XP, but his eyes light up at the sight of the ’Ant Queen Egg’ they’ve nabbed.
This is quite a find. In the future, they might be able to place it in Dawn City and use it as a fixed XP instanced dungeon, periodically reaping the rewards.
With the Queen Ant out of the way, there’s still more to do.
By now, the summonings at the entrance have been almost wiped out by the ant swarm. In haste, Mu You clicks to initiate the Ice Wall Technique, erecting an ice wall at the entrance to block the swarm.
[Using a sickle from her bag, Shadow Wolf proficiently skins the Queen White Ant’s corpse and quickly stuffs it away.]
[With the Queen White Ant gone, the full extent of the geyser fountain beneath her is finally revealed, and you prompt the goblin to act quickly.]
[The goblin, Eugene, swallows nervously, takes out an oval-shaped mechanical device from his bag, and tremblingly tosses it into the geyser.]
[The mechanical device automatically hovers over the crack in the ground. Under the wash of the intense magical energy below it, the dim device rapidly lights up and emanates an eerie blue glow. The wild energy from the magic fountain undergoes a transformation within the device, to milder magic power that spreads around.]
[You feel a surge of magic power around you, streams of pure energy flow into your body, quickly restoring the magical energy you’ve expended...]
Looking at the text, Mu You is somewhat surprised. This old goblin’s invention is slightly impressive. It can actually convert wild energy from the underground fountain, which was otherwise impossible to tap into, into a milder, usable form.
If this device truly works, it would equate to ’controlled nuclear fusion’ in the magical world. All geothermal fountains worldwide could then be utilized to continuously generate energy that’s at our disposal.
[The old goblin gazes in awe at the increasingly brilliant conversion device, his eyes shining ever brighter. Overwhelmed by joy, he exclaims, "I’ve succeeded! My research has proved fruitful. This discovery will rewrite the energy history of the Star Spirit World..."]
[But barely has the goblin’s voice died down, the floating conversion device suddenly blazes with light. As if it was struggling under a heavy burden, cracks emerge, and finally, with a deafening boom, it explodes into dust and disappears entirely...]
[The lighting inside the cave rapidly returns to normal. The four of you have sustained minor injuries from the explosion, but none are severe. The old goblin, Eugene, stands motionless near the crack, staring blankly at the magic fountain, his face expressing a profound sense of loss—he has failed in his experiment!]
[The energy from the geyser fountain was more than enough to power his device, but it wasn’t stable. For his Energy Conversion Device to operate for a long time, it needs not only a wild yet massive energy source like the geyser fountain, but also the ability to maintain long-term stability. Such a paradoxical energy source, it seems, cannot exist.]
["So, my research...from the start, has been meaningless." Coming to this conclusion brings Eugene intense pain. As he loses his zeal, he seems to age decades in a moment.]
This old goblin’s predicament is kind of pathetic. He thought his experiment was about to succeed, but at the last minute, everything went downhill. His lifetime of work was invalidated in the blink of an eye.
However, as Mu You continues to read the game text, he rubs his chin and a wild thought suddenly comes to his mind.
An energy source that’s both wild and stable...doesn’t he have one...
