Chapter 531: Chapter 306: The Phoenix City Waiting for Prosperity - Dawn City_1
At that moment, Lin Xue swam toward them from afar, Little Ya in tow behind her.
Presently, they were at the bottom of the sea. Thanks to their Merfolk Masks, Lin Xue and Mu You weren’t significantly affected. Little Ya, on the other hand, was feeling smothered and uncomfortable, her mouth covered as muffled blubbles escaped continuously.
Lin Xue pointed toward the surface, asking if they’d want to return there first.
"Steady yourselves. It’ll be over soon."
Mu You passed his Merfolk Mask to Little Ya, then placed his hand on the altar to start controlling Sky City.
As the City Lord, he could determine when Dawn City took off and its course.
All they needed to do next was to have Dawn City take flight again, returning to the skies.
With a cacophony of rumbling sounds, the seabed started to rock and sway unexpectedly.
The entire periphery of Dawn City began to dislocate from the surrounding seafloor, and the city itself started to ascend slowly towards the sky, the speed of ascension gradually increasing.
The seawater was pushed away to the sides. The sea’s fish and shrimps, the boats on the surface, along with the pirates, were all expelled out of the Evil Spirit Sea Area by the sea currents.
The hundreds of islands on the sea’s surface, too, fragmented into pieces as Dawn City began to rise. Rocks and soil plunged into the water, and while a significant portion was carried away by the sea, a larger part fell directly into Dawn City, causing the city to tremble violently.
Looking upward, Mu You could see the brightly lit sea surface approaching. Approximately a minute later, the city finally surfaced.
The Evil Spirit Sea Area, previously an archipelago, had been transformed into a vast, practically bottomless deep-sea zone.
On Dawn City, after the seawater had subsided, all manner of marine plants and creatures remained, along with numerous pirates and fishermen who did not manage to evacuate in time. These were villagers who formerly lived on the various islands of the Evil Spirit Sea Area, and who had fallen onto Dawn City as the islands were falling apart.
Mu You utilized his City Lord’s authority to expel all creatures not belonging to the Fool, leaving behind an enormous octopus.
The Octopus King had been lying in wait near the first entrance all along. When Dawn City returned, its countless smaller octopuses rushed back to it, reassembling its severed arm.
The Octopus King, stuck hanging onto the edge of the city, dared not dive into the sea or approach the city’s center, anxiously awaiting its unknown fate.
The huge size of the Octopus King was undeniable, but in comparison to the entirety of Dawn City, it was still just an insignificant speck, indicating just how colossal Dawn City really was.
The sight of such a massive Sky City hovering over the sea was overwhelmingly awe-inspiring.
All the creatures in the surrounding sea area, whether under the water or on the surface, were astonished by this city that blotted out the sun.
It was dawn. Night was fading, and there was already a hint of daylight appearing on the horizon. Under this dim morning light, Dawn City hovered steadily over the sea.
A sea breeze blew through the numerous broken structures within the city, prompting a series of echoes.
The echoes merged together to form a unique, howling sound that traveled far and wide with the wind, as though heralding to the world its return to daylight.
Great Abyss, bottom level.
Dozens of goblins and Little Devils gathered here, lined up and working in shifts, cranking a line of hand-powered generators.
While grunting at their laborious task, the goblins and demons lifted their heads to sneak glances at the intimidating Crystal Throne in the distance.
At that moment, on the throne sat a woman with dark hair and white clothing.
As the Lord of the Abyss, she could effortlessly control everything within it. All these creatures were her slaves, forced to serve as her coolies.
Leaning lazily against her throne, the woman focused all her attention on the smooth rock wall before her—or more precisely, on the scene projected onto the wall by a projector.
The Abyss Cinema was showing Ju-On 2 today.
The eerie, dark surroundings perfectly complemented the atmospheric movie. As the plot reached its climax and Kayako’s frightening face suddenly flashed onto the screen, a bizarre shriek echoed throughout the Abyss, sounding like the wails of a multitude of ghosts. The atmosphere suggested that even the Great Abyss had been startled by the film.
All the creatures of the Abyss trembled in fear at this spectral sound.
The woman in white, however, turned her attention away from the film and looked up at the ceiling of the Abyss, furrowing her brows.
"Sky Army... what a troublesome group..."
...
Elf Forest, Emerald City.
The World Tree, nature’s canopy that covered the entire city, began trembling for no apparent reason, its countless branches and leaves quivering and causing a resonating hum throughout the city.
High Priestess Riley stood at the top of the World Tree, gently caressing its trunk as though to soothe its emotions, before turning her gaze in the direction of the re-emerging Dawn City.
"Those restless adventurers were bound to return sooner or later..."
...
Not far away, within Phoenix City where their Elf Clan brethren resided, the noise from a hundred phoenixes screeching simultaneously stirred many of the slumbering Sunlight Elves. They rushed out of their homes, looking perplexedly towards the red hue in the sky that almost resembled a blazing wildfire.
In the palace’s library, Princess Selena of the elves put her book aside, walked to her door, and looked at the ancient Phoenix Perching Tree in the courtyard, which was engulfed in flames.
The Phoenix Perching Tree was a Divine Wood with prophetic capabilities. The flames consuming it symbolized turmoil and conflict—its message was clear: the time of peace in the Star Spirit World that had lasted for a millennium was coming to an end. The stirrings of war were once again on the horizon.
