Chapter 479: Chapter 287: Nightmare Octopus King_2

Seeing the elf, the Red-skinned Octopus cried out in relief, "Here’s a new recruit who doesn’t know his place. Help me subdue him!"

"Very well, Master Chef," the elf responded with a smile, elegantly lifting the tray aside where it hovered in mid-air.

Immediately, she turned her gaze onto Mu You and charged him.

Mu You instinctively prepared himself for resistance, but at that moment, the elf shouted, "Don’t move!"

Mu You hesitated for a moment, and in the next second, he was pinned to the ground by the elf.

The elf moved swiftly, locking his hands behind his back and holding him down.

This was not because the elf was just following orders. Instead, when she charged at him, her smile momentarily disappeared, giving him a covert glance.

Mu You instantly understood that this elf was sentient!

That’s why he chose not to resist.

"Truly commendable, Meryl!"

Only after seeing Mu You subdued by the elf in one move, did the Red-skinned Octopus finally nod in satisfaction. "This novice must be suffering from lost-dream syndrome, unable to distinguish reality from dreams. Take him to the electrotherapy room and correct his errant ways!"

"Yes, Master Chef!"

As the elf looked at the octopus, her mechanical smile returned to her face.

She then secured Mu You elegantly and, after a nod to the octopus, she turned and left the corridor.

Mu You didn’t resist and let her carry him along.

After reaching another corridor, the elf opened a door and led Mu You inside. Once the door was closed, she dropped him onto the ground.

"Breaking free from the dream on your first day... you’re no ordinary new recruit. Speak, who actually are you?" the elf demanded, her mechanical smile now entirely gone. She pinched her cheeks, as if trying to revitalize her stiffened muscles.

"I was assigned by your elder, Harrington Hugh, to rescue you all," said Mu You as he wriggled his hands behind him, easily freeing himself from the ropes which hadn’t been tied all that tight in the first place.

The elf paused her movement, her eyes contracted as she turned to look at Mu You in disbelief, "What did you say? Elder Harrington? He’s still alive?"

Mu You shook his head, "He passed away three hundred years ago, leaving behind only a remnant of his soul..."

Mu You didn’t hide anything, telling the elf about all that had transpired with Harrington.

"So that’s how it is..."

After hearing the complete story, the elf looked pained, her expression one of sorrow that could not be cried out.

The initial prison break plan wasn’t perfect. Soon after they had sent Harrington away, the Octopus King had been alerted. Launching a massive search with his troops, he ensured that no one escaped from the prison.

The elves believed that Elder Harrington was captured and executed by the Octopus King right after he had been sent away. They never imagined he had survived in a confined space for hundreds of years, always thinking of their plight till his last breath.

"What is this?" Mu You didn’t spare the elf any time to grieve. He scanned the room, directing his attention to a pool in its center.

The octopus had ordered the elf to take him to the ’electrotherapy room’. But before him was not a lab laden with electronic equipment as he’d imagined. The room was bare, save for a bed placed in the center. Beside the bed was a large pool filled with a giant, transparent jellyfish that leisurely swam around. Sparks sporadically flashed from its trailing tentacles.

"This is Octopus King’s pet, the Electrotherapy Jellyfish. Originally, it was meant to help one forget unpleasant memories, but the Octopus King trained it to be a mind-controlling tool instead," the elf explained. "People who possess strong psychic abilities and who stay here for a long time run the risk of regaining their memories, the so-called ’lost dream syndrome’. Those who show signs of it are immediately caught and zapped by this jellyfish, which helps them forget all about their awakening and wholeheartedly accept this place, thereby crushing their will to resist."

Brainwashing Jellyfish, what an extraordinary creature it was...

Mu You looked at the elf again, "So have you undergone electrotherapy?"

"No, but I supervise the electrotherapy room. So, I’ve witnessed firsthand the suffering many of our kin go through during electrotherapy... The octopuses are very sensitive. Show any hint of abnormality, and they bring you here for therapy," the elf shook her head, sighing. "I suppose I was lucky. I began to regain my memories while in the electrotherapy room, right as I was witnessing another elf sister undergo therapy. The shock of it helped me control my emotions, and I faked my way through with acting. I’ve been putting on a performance for hundreds of years without a single slip-up... "

Mu You looked at the elf woman in amazement. Her psychological strength was extraordinary to have endured several centuries of misery under her mask of pain!

"So, has every elf here regained their memories?" Mu You asked. As she was in charge of the electrotherapy room and had regained her memories, logically she would want to help her kin regain their memories as well.

But her answer surprised Mu You.
