Chapter 424: Chapter 269: The True Form of Shadow Ghost_1
"Seems like they really like you..." Mu You said to the little girl, his face showing surprise.
You have to understand, civets usually ignore most humans. Even with Little Ya, they just show toleration and do not approach willingly.
But now, the civets were behaving affectionately around this girl. In terms of animal behavior, this suggests complete trust or even affection!
Was the girl’s heart pure to this extent?
The girl, upon hearing this, finally looked at Mu You, saying nothing but squinting her eyes into crescents, giving him a very healing smile.
"Little girl, where are your parents... huh?"
Looking around and seeing that she was unaccompanied by adults, Mu You was about to ask about her guardian.
Just then, he sensed a strong throbbing coming from something in his Storage Ring—the Shadow Ghost Box!
Mu You was caught off guard.
Ever since the Shadow Ghost was severely injured in the depths of the Demon Sea and devoured the soul of a Pirate Ghost, it had been in a deep sleep within the Sealed Box.
There hadn’t been any movement since, and Mu You had begun to wonder whether it had overeaten and died, or succumbed to its injuries.
To his surprise, the Shadow Ghost woke up suddenly today and sent out a warning signal.
"What’s going on?"
Mu You looked in the direction indicated by the Shadow Ghost’s warning. There was a group of tourists walking around outside the Mandrake Soundproof Booth.
Mu You scanned the group and quickly noticed two suspicious-looking men.
Unlike the crowd of tourists busy taking photos in front of the glass booth, these two men were roaming around the outskirts of the crowd. Their gaze wasn’t focused on the Mandrake Booth. Instead, they were aimlessly looking around, their eyes instinctually skipping over the spot where Mu You was.
As the park’s manager, positioned in the center next to the cat’s lair, and the only one sitting, he was quite noticeable. Most people would instinctively glance his way. The behavior of these men suggested they might be up to no good.
"Hiss!"
"Ow——"
Simultaneously, two gasps caught his attention. Turning around, Mu You noticed the girl in the kimono was no longer there.
Mu You had no time to consider what had happened to the girl, as both civets rose to their feet, their fur bristle, and they started hissing threats towards the direction of the tourists.
Even the civets reacted like this... Mu You was even more certain that something was wrong with those two men.
However, he remained calm and collected.
Mu You discreetly returned to his game, took out the Reconnaissance Beetle, and quietly placed it on the ground.
The beetle immediately dived into the grass and swiftly moved towards that group of people.
In no time, Mu You began to receive sounds brought back by the beetle.
Filtering through the various noises, Mu You was able to make out the two men’s conversation.
"The target is gone..."
"Damn, it disappeared again, such a hard find, I’m starting to regret taking up this job..."
"Stop complaining... as long as we get this done, we’ll be set for life..."
...
He could just about make out the conversation.
"Target?"
Mu You frowned, as he realized that the so-called ’target’ mentioned by the duo could perhaps be the Shadow Ghost?
But the Shadow Ghost was sealed in a box, which in turn was sealed in the ring. How could someone locate it through these layers of containment?
And if the target wasn’t the Shadow Ghost, what could it be?
If their intention was to steal animals from the pet shop, it wouldn’t quite add up, given that each animal was always under the constant scrutiny of many tourists, offering no window of opportunity.
Especially with the Mandrake Booth being swarmed with fans from start to finish. If anyone dared to steal or harm the Mandrake, the fans would tear them to shreds even before Mu You could step in.
As anticipated, the beetle brought further news.
"Damn, this pet store is really making a fortune! If we could steal these animals, it would certainly ensure our comfortable livelihood for a lifetime!"
"I had previously gathered some information on some forums. This store is supposedly only managed by the owner at night, who is a middle-ranking gamer, probably around level twelve or thirteen. By teaming up, we should be able to take him down. What do you think, should we analyze this situation tonight?" One of the men sneakily glanced over at Mu You as he spoke. Possibly noticing that Mu You’s gaze was headed their way, he hastily averted his gaze.
"Don’t be reckless! This store has the backing of the special tone bureau, and the owner is said to have some ties with the people from the Dragon group. You can go die by yourself!"
"I was just saying..."
"But, after we’ve finished this job, before we leave the country, we might consider giving it a shot. If we succeed, we’ll have won the jackpot. Even if we fail, we’ve got nothing to lose." The previously opposed man stutteringly left some room for negotiation.
"What about now?"
"Let’s get going. Staying here any longer is just a waste of time..."
"Don’t want to stick around anymore? I wanted to experience the Chocobo..."
"Experience my ass, it costs 500 per session. Moreover, have you seen the number of people in line? Even if you bought a ticket, it wouldn’t be your turn unless you bought another ticket for the next session and queued up first."
"So what I meant was, these capitalists are really cruel! Given a chance, I’d dispossess them completely!"
