Chapter 260: Chapter 210 The Disappearing Taurus_1
"Team Seven has reached the designated position. All systems are normal."
"Team Eight in position..."
...
Soon, every member of the surrounding teams arrived at their prescribed locations.
The voice of the commander immediately sounded from the communicator: "Scatter your positions as much as possible. Each small team, prepare anti-invisibility measures. Support groups should be ready to provide backup at any time. Main assault team, ready your snares and traps. The surprise attack will start in one minute, ... "
Everyone complied with the orders.
On Team Three’s side, without interference from Sagittarius, Mu You confidently summoned the Shadow War Eagle. Its ability to cloak and perform high-altitude reconnaissance proved more useful than regular anti-invisibility devices.
Having dispatched the War Eagle, Mu You could now clearly see the scene of the distant manor through its perspective.
In the manor, only a few figures could be seen — farming, reading papers, sunbathing, each engrossed in their own activity. They looked like a calm, ordinary family of three.
But Mu You knew that it was all a facade.
"Boom!"
Suddenly, an eye-catching ball of fire accompanied by a deafening explosion seemed to have detonated in the distance.
For those unaware, it would seem that the main assault team had already engaged in combat with the enemy.
However, through the War Eagle’s eyes, Mu You could see that the explosion site was still nearly fifty meters away from the Manor.
It was evident that the Illuminati had laid some sort of trap outside the Manor. Some members of the main assault team had triggered it, revealing their presence earlier than planned.
From the magic fluctuations coming from the distance, it seemed that it was some sort of magic tool. Considering it could deceive the perceptions of advanced players, it must be a high-ranking tool.
There was nothing to be done — there were just too many various oddities in the Magic World. Despite careful planning, it was impossible to foresee every outcome.
While the trap caused little harm, the explosion alerted the people inside the Manor to its presence.
At the main assault team’s location, the commander of the team promptly activated the Space Shield, and immediately called out: "Charge!"
Everyone immediately abandoned their disguises and rushed towards the Manor at full speed.
A wave, visible to the naked eye, rapidly radiated from the location, extending beyond a kilometer radius.
Mu You felt as if he was enveloped by an invisible force. He tried swinging his Phantom Wand – sure enough, teleportation was no longer available.
In the distance, over fifty individuals stormed into the Manor grounds. Before the enemy could react, they instantly killed the three people in the courtyard. Then, they spread out and surrounded the Manor’s buildings, initiating various large-scale magics.
The sound of explosions and combat suddenly resounded in the Manor and quickly became concentrated. The battle had truly begun.
However, advanced players of the Illuminati were also present.
As a bona fide second-rate organization, the Illuminati possessed two level-15 players, excluding their president, Taurus.
Soon, the two advanced players, leading the members of the Illuminati, clashed with the main assault team. The Manor buildings instantly illuminated with the glow of various magics, making it appear multicolored.
Flames, frost, thunder, light waves... a variety of flashy magics were being swapped between the two factions.
In the midst of such an intense energy explosion, it was the building behind the players that first collapsed from the pressure, which was swiftly followed by a succession of magics that leveled it.
The battlefield quietly expanded. The members of Illuminati were taken aback by the scene outside. Even though they knew their chances were slim, many immediately tried to break through and escape, causing chaos on the battlefield.
Through the vision of the War Eagle, Mu You could see the intense player wars playing out below. A few advanced players stood out amongst the crowd with their strong and aggressive attacks. They outshined the others by a wide margin.
However, Mu You didn’t have the time to watch others perform. Instead, he was quickly searching for Taurus in the crowds. By now, the members of the Illuminati should have been out in full force. Despite scanning the crowd, he couldn’t locate Taurus.
Could Taurus not be here?
"Rumble--"
Just then, a rumbling sound of thunder suddenly emanated from afar. The vicinity of the Manor was quickly enveloped by swiftly condensing thunderclouds, from which countless bolts of lightning struck all of the deviant bureau players.
This large-scale magic came quickly and fiercely. The timing was spot on, instantly tearing apart the main assault team’s formation and giving the Illuminati players a chance to breathe.
However, seeing this scene gave Mu You some reassurance.
Black Magic — Thunder Network.
Since there was Black Magic involved, Taurus had to be among them; he just didn’t know where he was hiding.
By now, outside the far-off Manor, the surrounding area had been shrouded by a dense black fog due to an unknown magic. Even the War Eagle’s vision was unable to penetrate it.
"Perimeter teams, be aware, some have broken through. Prepare for interception..."
The commander’s voice suddenly echoed in everyone’s earpieces.
The remaining five members of Group Three were instantly on high alert.
There were eight directions the enemy could break through from; they might not necessarily attack directly towards them. More likely, a few scattered foes would be the ones breaking through. Regardless, they were not afraid of a small number of enemies, and if confronted with a large number, they could always call for reinforcements. The pressure was not too heavy.
However, what happened next bewildered all five of them.
The enemy’s main force was indeed heading directly their way.
From the distance, amidst the enveloping black mist, a large multitude of figures suddenly lunged forward, all rushing toward them. By rough estimate, there were as many as fifty to sixty people!
The five of them gasped in surprise.
"What the heck?!?"
"Why are there so many?"
...
Over fifty enemies... how many of the remnants of the Illuminati were there in total?
Could all of the remnants have rushed towards them, while not a single one was stopped by the main attack team led by the great sage?
Or it could be that their intelligence was faulty, and not only were there more than sixty remnants of the Illuminati, there were even more lurking nearby?
As they watched a dense crowd of people rushing towards them, they began to panic.
"Don’t worry, most of them are just illusions. There are only seven real ones!" Mu You suddenly spoke.
These people used a magic similar to a clone spell, creating a large number of illusions that looked identical, and added to the collective charge, making them hard to identify.
Unfortunately, they encountered Mu You. This crude clonation spell was exposed under the inspection of the Omniscient Crystal, and he could clearly distinguish the illusions from the real bodies.
The others were stunned for a moment but then reacted promptly. Looking closely, the overlapping appearances were indeed too numerous, undoubtedly illusions.
However, even if they were illusions, their sheer numbers posed a problem. They were just six after all; they couldn’t block them all.
Mu You jumped to the front of the group, waved his magic wand, and a dazzling light emerged at the tip of his wand. It rapidly condensed into seven beams of light, like lasers, illuminating seven people in the crowd: "Don’t worry about the others, just attack these seven!"
This was an application of the lighting spell. The luminary effect was unnecessary, but using it as a marker was rather advantageous.
As he spoke, Mu You activated the effect of the Thunder Wand, and a blood-red lightning bolt shot out, striking one of the marked individuals square on.
The person screamed in pain and instinctively raised his wand to cast a healing spell.
With that, he completely gave away the fact that he was real. The others didn’t have time to ask Mu You how he saw through the illusion, and they immediately launched their magic toward the seven targets.
The seven were hit hard and screamed continuously. Knowing they had been exposed, they reacted quickly, hastily mingling with the clones. The group of figures rapidly converged and dispersed, thoroughly confusing the enemy.
The seven thought this would buy them some time, but upon looking down, there was still a beam of light steadily illuminating each of their chests, marking them clearly in the crowd.
Obedient to Mu You’s advice, the others never ceased their attacks, all firepower was unreservedly dumped onto the seven beacons.
It dawned on the seven that there were experts among the foes; illusions would be of no use. They had to go all out and scramble for freedom.
Of course, reality proved that this was easier said than done.
Liu Chen erected an ice wall in front, summoning a frost wall more than twenty meters long. The effect was not as powerful as the Black Magic version, but anyone passing through would also be greatly slowed down.
Mu You threw three bindweed seeds, using Rapid Growth to catalyse a plant barrier.
With teleportation methods being sealed, these two obstacles were like insurmountable trenches, blocking the path of escape.
After a two minutes delay, the backup squad finally arrived. Working in collaboration with Group Three, after some effort, they managed to kill the seven.
After dealing with these deserters, they queried the channel and found out that the enemy had initially split in two to escape, one group was here, and another assaulted Group Seven’s area, using similar illusion tactics.
Group Seven didn’t have Mu You’s ability to see through the illusions at a glance. Initially, they were confused and nearly got divided. Fortunately, two backup teams were nearby and provided immediate support. The combined forces of three teams prevented the enemy from escaping.
Eight minutes after the combat began, the sounds of battle from the distant mansion quickly began to fade, indicating that this siege was coming to an end.
However, the more the situation progressed, the more something felt off to Mu You. Until the present moment, there was still no sign of Taurus.
Could he already be dead? Or could it be...?
Thinking of this, Mu You frowned, instinctively scanning his surroundings.
Looking at the barren wilderness under the eagle’s view, he suddenly raised his magic wand, firing an Arcane Missile.
Once formed, the missile quickly flew out, following a winding trajectory, before finally crashing into an empty area several tens of meters behind. Amidst the scattering magic dust, a figure slowly moving forward, akin to a crawling turtle, was revealed.
