Chapter 199: Chapter 171: Suspected Sagittarius_1
"This is the place."
Zhang Yang led Mu You to the location of the door, pointing at a spot in the river ahead.
Mu You looked down, but the turbid river water made it difficult to discern anything at the bottom.
"The magical beasts nearby have been cleared out, and no new ones will approach for now. The others have already headed over to the other side. I’ve informed them, just go and rendezvous with them and tell them your identity," Zhang Yang said.
"Okay."
Ensuring he had all necessary items on him, Mu You said goodbye to Zhang Yang and leaped into the river water.
As Mu You entered the water, Vivian had already used a transformation spell to turn into a fish and followed him underwater.
The river here was much shallower than expected. After plunging about twenty or thirty meters, he reached the bottom.
By now, Mu You’s night vision training in the game was already complete. Even at the pitch-black bottom of the river, he could still see clearly. As soon as he landed, he quickly noticed the ’door’ not far ahead.
Calling it a door was somewhat of a stretch - it had already been heavily damaged by the comings and goings of various magical beasts, forming a large oval hole on the spot. It was about four or five meters high and more than three meters wide.
Due to the damage, the shell of the door had disappeared completely, and the whole door had merged with the surrounding space. It could no longer close or move and sat abandoned at the bottom of the river, eternally bridging two realms.
Mu You swam through the door hole to the other side.
The other side of the door also led to a body of water.
Once Mu You surfaced, the scene before him confirmed his suspicions – it was indeed a vast swamp. The ground was covered in silt and numerous large and small puddles. Bubbles and a faint, fluorescent green gas would occasionally emerge from the pools of water, clearly indicating the presence of deadly toxins.
Only then did Vivian leap out of the water, transform back into the canary, land on his shoulder, shake the water off her feathers, survey the environment, and speak to Mu You: "This is a Poisonous Swamp. It is located in the vast, unpopulated ocean of the south of the Star Spirit World, near the Doldrums. The swamp is riddled with poisonous springs and abysses. It is notoriously dangerous and has been a nesting ground for amphibious magical beasts and poisonous magical beasts since ancient times."
Following her reminder, a prompt flashed in Mu You’s head: [You have entered the Poisonous Swamp.]
Mu You climbed onto the shore and saw many people waiting. About sixty figures huddled together. Upon taking a quick glance, they were indeed all players above level ten. However, these people were clearly divided into small groups according to their factions and gathered in different corners.
"Are you Mu You?"
As he got on shore, a man approached him.
"That’s me." Seeing the man’s coat, emblematic of the Bureau of Paranormal Investigation, Mu You guessed his identity.
"I’m Wang Jie from Y City’s Bureau of Paranormal Investigation!"
The man extended his hand: "Captain Zhang has informed me. You can follow our agency’s team."
"Okay."
Mu You extended his hand and shook his.
Wang Jie then gave Mu You a brief introduction to the current team composition.
Out of the 64 members, 30 were from various Paranormal Investigation Bureaus, and the others were expert players from ally organizations like Merchants Alliance, Ice Emperor, and Twilight. The seemingly chaotic team was led by three level-15 players - one from the Ice Emperor organization and two from the Bureau of Paranormal Investigation.
These three were not yet top-tier players but had all been through the door. Most of the others were first-timers and not very familiar with much beyond the door.
The man leading the trio glanced at Mu You, just ashore, nodded, and began: "Now that everyone is here, let’s talk about the rules."
As he began, the bustling crowd quieted down, turning their attention towards him.
"First of all, we are all contributing to our country in this mission, and we’re all allies. There are no gaps among us. Regardless of our origins, since we’ve come together to complete the mission, we are a team. If anyone encounters danger along the way, whether they are from your group or not, do your best to help them."
"As for other combat considerations, such as positioning and coordination, you are all elites, and I trust that I don’t need to remind you of such basics. I’ll just mention a few fundamental rules when you’re beyond the door..."
The leading expert then proceeded to inform the others about the precautions they should take after passing the door. In the Star Spirit World, for instance, hints similar to those in a game will appear in their minds. They’ll be recognized as possessing the aura of the Fool in the Star Spirit World, so they must remember to lay down the Transmission Mark at the door, and so on.
Additionally, he reiterated that the three leaders have a special mark to track the gods. They can faintly sense the direction of the gods. Therefore, everyone should stick together and follow their lead without worrying about getting lost.
Having briefed them on the precautions, the team officially set out.
Mu You was still using the Watchman skin and didn’t hastily switched to the Vampire. He would wait until necessary because the properties of the Vampire skin were quite high and many people present had detection devices, making it easy for anomalies to be noticed.
Another reason was that his current position was safe.
Since Mu You was holding a bow and arrow and had just completed his evolution, his level was one of the lowest on the field. He was considered a ranged personnel that needed protection and was placed in the middle of the team.
There were three experts leading the way and intercepting dangers ahead, and people covering the rear. The center and rear of the entire team were arguably the most comfortable positions.
Unsure of what to say about this arrangement, Mu You secretly wished he could be on the fringes to fight monsters...
The team hit the road, and the atmosphere was relatively relaxed. While they were on the move, they conversed with unfamiliar teammates, introduced one another and fostered relationships. After all, it was rare to meet so many experts at the same time.
However, as they ventured deeper into the swamp, casual conversations soon ceased. With no insects chirping or birds singing, only the occasional bubbling of the poisoned puddles could be heard. It felt as though they had entered a desolate land.
In such an environment, people subconsciously quiet down.
The team leader had explained earlier that there were two main dangers in the swamp — mud traps and poisonous magical beasts lurking underground.
Mud was easy to deal with. If someone got stuck in it, others would instantly pull them out.
The main threats were the magical beasts.
"Watch out, Water Dart Poisonous Frog!"
Someone suddenly shouted.
Accompanying his voice, a frog-like magical beast, with a purple exterior, leaped out from a nearby puddle, and sprayed numerous streaks of poisonous fluid at the crowd.
This beast, a level 11 creature, wasn’t physically strong but extremely fast and highly poisonous. It posed a huge threat to ordinary players.
Unfortunately, it didn’t pose much of a problem to the dozens of elite players present. The poisonous fluid was effortlessly blocked by the shields of several melee fighters, followed by a barrage of counterattacks.
Before Mu You had even drawn his bow, the frog was blown to ash by a flurry of magical attacks.
"Indeed, I can’t get to the monsters..."
Mu You was speechless. Their reactions were too fast.
They encountered a few more waves of monsters along the way, but the story was the same every time. The monsters would appear and be immediately bombarded by eager players. Mu You hadn’t had a chance to touch a single one.
Seeing that he wouldn’t be able to fight any monsters, Mu You decided to just observe his teammates instead.
And he did take note of one person.
She was a woman with a ponytail, wearing a dark, tight-fitting armor, holding two short knives. Judging by the team, she probably belonged to the Ice Emperor’s side.
The reason he noticed her was that he saw her summon a War Eagle.
Mu You was very familiar with this creature. The moment it appeared, it entered stealth mode and flew high in the sky to serve as the eyes for evasion detection, unmistakably a Shadow War Eagle.
A strange look crossed Mu You’s face.
Not many people in the Secret Technique Association possessed the summoning card for the War Eagle. Considering her gender... Could this be Sagittarius?
