Chapter 182: Chapter 161: The New Owner of the Ghost Ship (Two-in-one, 6200 words)_4

The effects weren’t too bad: one piece increased attributes, the other automatically restored life, and both were permanent. Unlike potions, they didn’t have a use limit and wouldn’t wear down over time, providing ongoing benefits.

"Anything else?" Mu You pocketed the two gemstones and turned to the skeletons again.

"There’s a treasure chest," one of the skeletons spoke up. "The captain’s prized possession. He wouldn’t let us anywhere near it."

"Where is it?" Mu You asked eagerly.

"It’s in the captain’s quarters!"

Mu You and the skeleton then ventured into the so-called captain’s quarters, and sure enough, they found a magical treasure chest.

The chest was a treasure in itself, made even more valuable by the high-grade magic lock placed on it. The odds of opening it were only 0.1%.

Employing the Lock Heart Cave technique, Mu You managed to unlock the chest after over nine hundred attempts.

Inside the rather spacious chest, there were only three items: a token, a compass, and a scepter.

Mu You first picked up the token.

[Waterway Pass: A token issued to Sir Willy by the Imperial Royal Family of the Lan Ai’er Empire a thousand years ago. It allows unhindered passage through all major magic barriers within the empire. It becomes invalid if the bearer attacks their own country’s merchant ships.]

A pass?

Mu You was perplexed. It was surprising that this pass was issued by the royal family and that Vieri, the great pirate, was even a ’Sir’?

It seemed that these pirates’ existence was condoned by the empire, which had a vested interest in them. Attacking domestic merchant ships was off-limits, but there were no restrictions against attacking foreign ones.

This implied that the empire encouraged pirates to attack foreign ships, with profit-sharing the motive. In other words: state-sanctioned piracy! As a result of these intertwined interests, pirates were able to obtain this privilege-like pass.

This is excellent!

Mu You nodded. This pass would allow him unrestricted travel within the empire’s waterways, perhaps even allow him to get involved in the water transport industry. Surely that was safer than becoming a pirate?

Moreover, with this underwater route, Mu You no longer had to worry about how he would reach the Imperial Capital.

He could even fill his ship with players and break through into the underground river channels of the Imperial Capital. With the right timing, they could even steal a tower.

Having pocketed the token, Mu You turned to the remaining two items.

[Compass of Destiny: A magical compass that perpetually points to the location you long for the most. Only effective at sea while aboard the Ghost Ship.]

[Sea Wind Scepter: Always ensures the wind blows from behind you. Only effective at sea.]

Both items were born to be used at sea. A scepter that always kept the ship sailing downwind and a magical compass that forever pointed towards the heart’s desire, ensuring one never lost their way at sea. To any seafarer, these were precious treasures. It was no wonder they were sealed in the treasure chest.

Mu You picked up the compass next. The compass needle spun endlessly and was unable to settle since there was no specific destination on his mind.

Mul You decided to think of the Imperial Capital and mentally planned to continue his journey there.

As expected, the compass needle stopped spinning and pointed in a certain direction.

"Quite an incredible item."

Satisfied, Mu You pocketed the three items before stepping off the ship. He then set up a Dark Teleportation Array on the nearby sand.

With the time now reading nine forty, it was time to head back.

After instructing the ghosts to guard the teleportation array, since he planned to return soon after, Mu You stepped into the array.

Rather than heading directly back to the Northern Snowfields, he decided to first visit Sunset City to check on his fishing net.

Following the usual dizzying teleportation spin, Mu You found himself under the sea once again.

Since it was deep into the night, darkness was everywhere. Emerging from the water, Mu You carefully navigated the rocky terrain using his lantern to find the fishing net’s buoy.

Setting down the Pumpkin Lantern, he took hold of the fishing net and pulled. The weight of the net took him by surprise.

The surprise was due to the net finally catching something, but the shock was due to the sheer weight.

He struggled to haul up the net and found, to his utter disbelief, that it had ensnared a mermaid covered in colorful scales.

This mermaid, shy of a meter in length, had light blue skin, gills on her neck, webbed hands, sharp teeth visible behind her lips, and hair that writhed as if alive. It was pointing towards Mu You, assuming an aggressive stance, seemingly warning him off.

Meanwhile, the mermaid herself was curled up at the bottom of the net, fast asleep, her mouth stained with traces of bait.
