Chapter 160: Chapter 151 A ’Door’_1

"Yes, you and Little Sea are Fools that I’ve watched grow up. Though Little Sea still has a quarter of the bloodline from the Star Spirit World, inheriting the crystallized secret technique would still pose a risk. As for you, Little Snow, you possess a pure Fool’s bloodline." The elderly woman said lovingly to Lin Xue.

No wonder Lin Hai wasn’t persecuted in the game!

After listening, Mu You finally understood. Lin Hai had some of the Star Spirit bloodline, and that’s why the pursuers considered him a local and didn’t go after him.

The elderly woman then turned to look at Canary, saying: "Tutor Vivian, Little Snow is my most loved grandchild. I plan to bestow her the Pisces inheritance. After I leave, please take care of her."

"Grandma..."

Lin Xue’s eyes welled up again. Even though Mu You had consoled her and she’d somewhat come to terms with the situation, she couldn’t hold back her tears at the elderly woman’s words, reminiscent of a final bequeathal.

"Don’t be sad, Little Snow. Grandma has lived long enough. Today, I’ve handed over my inheritance, met Tutor Vivian, and settled all my concerns. I can truthfully declare that today is the happiest day of my life. There’s no need to grieve." The elderly woman gazed at the sobbing Lin Xue with a smile, her eyes reflecting absolute tranquility and release.

"Don’t worry, I’ll treat your successor like my own," Vivian said as she looked at Lin Xue and nodded.

"Good..." The elderly woman sighed in relief and then turned back to Mu You.

"Also, young man, I have something else to entrust to you."

"Oh, sure," replied Mu You dutifully.

"There’s something very important that I need to entrust before I depart. Originally, with only Little Snow here, I had my reservations. But now with you and Tutor Vivian to guide you, I can finally entrust it to you with peace of mind."

"What is it?" Mu You was curious. What could be so precious that the elderly woman talked about it so solemnly?

"A door."

"A door?"

"Yes, a door embedded in a wall," clarified the elderly woman.

"You mean... that ’wall’?" Surprised, Mu You reckoned that the wall she was referring to could only be the invisible, pervasive ’high wall’—the wall that divided the Star Spirit World from Earth.

Did she imply that this door was an entrance that freely allowed passage between the realms?

"Correct."

The elderly woman chuckled: "Aren’t you curious as to how I arrived in this world?"

Of course, Mu You was curious. He just hadn’t had time to ask because he was shocked by the curse of black magic.

"This place is known as the Forgotten Land, a location entirely devoid of magic power. But even long ago, before this place loosened up, there was still a trace amount of magic power here. That’s because there’s no such thing as a completely airtight wall in the world. Where there’s a wall, there’s a door—one of nature’s rules. Even the wall between the two realms is not an exception. To maintain its long-term stability, there must be some vents, and these vents appear in the form of ’doors’."

"Wait, so... there are many ’doors’?" Asked a surprised Mu You, understanding from the elderly woman’s explanation that these doors weren’t one of a kind but were scattered ’vents’ along the wall.

"Yes, but ’doors’ aren’t that easy to find, and there are many restrictions to using them."

The elderly woman shook her head: "Come with me and see."

Mu You and Lin Xue then helped the elderly woman onto a wheelchair. With Lin Xue pushing the wheelchair, they left the room, took the villa’s elevator, and descended all the way to the underground storage on the second floor.

Following the elderly woman’s instructions, they found an incredibly hidden dark passage in the underground storage, sealed with a magic lock. Mu You had to use the unlocking spell a few times before it could be opened. This place was so secret that even Lin Xue, who had grown up with her grandma in this mansion, didn’t know about it.

The group followed the elderly woman’s guidance down the dusty tunnel, finally arriving at a secretive room about twenty meters underground.

Due to long-term seclusion, the secret room reeked of damp, decayed air.

However, they didn’t pay any attention to that. Upon entering, their eyes were immediately drawn to the ’door’ located in the middle of the room.

"This is...the ’door’?"

Lin Xue asked, her curiosity piquing as she adjusted her glasses.

In front of them was an antique red door, looking much like an ordinary security barrier. It seemed to be made of red sandalwood, yet somehow also evoked the image of painted metal.

The door looked as though it had been violently ripped from a wall, with uneven bricks and concrete-like material clinging to it, creating a makeshift frame that held it sturdily in place.

Mu You noted invisible star spirit runes etched onto the door, acting like a seal that enforced a myriad of restrictions. Until these barriers were removed, it was nothing more than a sealed door.

"Yes, the door couldn’t be stored in any spatial equipment. When I arrived in the Forgotten Land, I used my declining magic power to seal it as much as I could and buried it underground here," the old man said from his wheelchair, looking at the canary perched on Mu You’s shoulder. "Tutor Vivian, my sealing technique is poor. Could you please seal this? It’s quite dangerous left exposed."

The canary nodded and turned to Mu You, "Make a blank Magic Card and place it under the door."

"Alright."

Confused about Vivian’s intentions, Mu You immediately summoned a Mystical Skills Card and placed it in front of the door as instructed.

As he approached, he was hit by a bone-chilling aura. It felt eerily familiar. He quickly realized it was the same aura he had felt when he saved the child protected by the Blood Emperor earlier that morning.

Mu You deduced that the child probably possessed a ’door’ too.

Besides, low whispers seemed to emanate from within the door, almost like an illusion, drawing him to open the door and step inside.

Mu You shook his head, quickly calming his mind. The whispers vanished immediately.

From behind, Grandma Lin Xue smiled and said, "The door has a somewhat beguiling nature. Just make sure it doesn’t affect you."

"Alright," Mu You replied, nodding.

Vivian had already flown to the door by then, flapping her wings as she cast a spell.

Mu You felt a considerable drain on his magical energy. A moment later, the door softened and disintegrated into a liquid that was absorbed by the card laid next to it.

When Mu You picked up the card again, he found an incredibly lifelike image of a door imprinted within it, as if a snapshot of the actual door had been taken and placed inside the card.

"This door was discovered by Tutor Vivian. At the time, the Wizard Association was launching a war against the twelve of us. We won that war but it was a pyrrhic victory. All twelve of us were severely injured and overuse of black magic greatly increased our curses. We had no choice but to scatter and find places to leave our legacies."

"Vivian herself had a chance to survive, but she gave me her chance to go through the door and attracted those pursuing us..."

The old man recollected wistfully, "To add, moving through the door comes with restrictions. The door can only be opened once every ten days and stays open for twenty-four hours. During this time, beings from both realms could freely cross over. However, you must return within these twenty-four hours, or be trapped in the other world, all while losing lifespan. You lose one year on the first day after crossing, two on the second, and so forth. The longer you stay in the other realm, the more lifespan lost."

"Only after all additional life, namely the life stolen from others, is exhausted does this loss stop."

"I see."

Only then did Mu You realize that there was a distinction between his ’own’ lifespan and the lifespan ’plundered’ from others.

Crossing the door would result in an ongoing depletion of lifespan, specifically the lifespan that didn’t originally belong to oneself.

The old man had been living on Earth for nearly a hundred years; even if she originally had several tens of thousands of years, they had all been drained by the wall, leaving her with only a few decades of her own lifespan. Even though she made it to the present, she was, nevertheless, approaching the end.

It was no wonder that Vivian didn’t propose making longevity potions for the old woman from the beginning. The life added by the potion would also not belong to her and would be siphoned off directly.

Appearing unbothered by this, the old woman concluded her explanation with a smile before turning to Mu You, "Young man, from now on, this door is yours. Remember, as long as you do not open it, this door is safe."

"But if you do choose to activate it and remove the seals, you will become the ’door opener’. Unless you leave the door untouched for over a year, you will remain the door opener. Only you will then be able to open and close the door."

"At that point, you will bear the responsibility of guarding this door. You must prevent beings from the Star Spirit World from crossing into your world. That would be a catastrophe."
