Chapter 1481: Chapter 643: May the World Treat You Kindly
Just as all the players were rubbing their hands in anticipation of the coming great battle.
In the Sea of Blood.
Thirteen humanoid silhouettes stood upright in the center of the sea.
The turbulent blood continued converging toward the thirteen figures, layer by layer condensing into semi-solid pure energy that merged into each of their bodies.
At the very center of the thirteen silhouettes stood a clay sculpture of Katerina, her entire body similarly enshrouded by countless blood-colored energy fragments.
However, as the energy streams coursed along her limbs, passed over her chest, and approached her neck, they encountered a barrier.
A necklace made of bone teeth hung around Katerina’s neck.
It was the same Wildman’s Tooth Necklace that Mu You had given her before their departure.
This seemingly unremarkable, crudely crafted object appeared to be a primordial beast to the energy of the Sea of Blood, forcing the blood-colored energy fragments to halt tremulously, circumnavigate the necklace, and gather elsewhere on her body instead.
Thus, while every other figure was fully enshrouded by the dense bloody energy, only Katerina had a vacuum, starting from her neck and extending to her untouched head.
"Sigh..."
A young girl’s soft sigh suddenly echoed in the air, followed by silence once more.
Who knows how much time had passed when the blood in the Sea of Blood began to dry up, the blood surface visibly shrinking until only a stark white ground was exposed beneath, leaving behind sporadic puddles of blood.
All the energy had gathered into the thirteen humanoid shells in the center.
The thirteen shells, resembling clay statues or stone carvings, stood quietly in the center of the space.
Until one moment, with a crisp ’crack,’ the clay covering Katerina’s forearm fissured and began to crumble, a hardened, scarlet scab falling away to reveal pale, tender fingers beneath.
That small movement triggered a chain reaction, as more and more fractures appeared, and the blood scabs fell away faster, revealing the pristine human skin trapped within the clay figure.
At last, all the blood-clay disintegrated, and Katerina’s full form was completely exposed.
A mighty surge of Divine Power swirled and coursed through her body, making her radiate the brilliance of a deity.
Several seconds later, Katerina suddenly opened her eyes, as if waking from a vast dream. She surveyed the unfamiliar surroundings in confusion for a few seconds before understanding what had transpired.
"Lord Creator... Mother..."
Katerina gasped, hurriedly looking at a pool of blood and a heap of dried blood clay on the ground, frantically digging through them.
"Don’t die... please don’t..."
She prayed as she dug, but her hands remained empty, and her heart sank further and further.
Just as Katerina was about to give up in despair, her hands suddenly felt something soft beneath the bloody water.
Caught off guard, she froze for a moment before frantically digging faster, utterly heedless of the filthy blood splattering all over her.
Finally, from the muddy pool of blood, she unearthed a human head.
The head was covered in layers of blood and filth, rendering the face indistinguishable, but its mouth gaped open, coughing and gasping for air like a drowning soul rescued from the depths.
Katerina hurriedly wiped away the blood from the face of the head.
Seeing the familiar face of a young girl beneath the grime and feeling the warmth of life on her cheek, Katerina wept tears of joy: "Mother! Thank goodness, you’re alive..."
She still didn’t fully understand what had happened. It seemed the Lord Creator had lost their body, leaving only a head.
But for Katerina, the fact that both she and the Creator were still alive was already a monumental blessing.
The long-haired girl in Katerina’s hands, however, was gazing beyond the two of them, her attention fixed on what lay behind.
There, the twelve humanoid silhouettes had started shedding their outer layers of blood scabs at an accelerated pace.
Yet, as their shells crumbled, what was revealed inside wasn’t the imagined human flesh, but still twelve desiccated skeletons.
A moment later, as all the blood scabs shattered, the twelve remains were fully exposed. They hadn’t absorbed any sustenance from the energy; in fact, they seemed even more fragile than before. The moment they were exposed, they disintegrated from head to toe into specks of dust, drifting away with the wind.
"No..."
Seeing the rapidly vanishing remains of her children, Lilith’s head shed two streams of silent tears, her eyes filled with heartache and reluctance.
In truth, she understood exactly what had happened.
The resurrection ritual held here had been her own decision, but her children had not chosen to comply with her arrangements.
During the brief moments of resurrection, as the children absorbed sufficient energy, they quickly realized the truth: their mother was attempting to resurrect them, but the cost would be the complete annihilation of her own body and soul...
The merciful Mother of Blood, who had treated all life as her own kin, did not deserve such a tragic end. This saintly being who embraced the world with unconditional compassion deserved the world’s tenderness in return.
Thus, her children had resolutely interfered, returning the energy they had absorbed while using the pieces of their newly restored souls to substitute for Lilith and feed the wrathful spirits haunting the surroundings.
This was why Lilith was still alive now.
Because of Katerina’s necklace, she had inadvertently failed to fully absorb the Blood God’s energy, which incidentally preserved Lilith’s body above the neck.
And the twelve children’s voluntary sacrifices ensured that Lilith’s soul was left intact.
"I’ve committed such sins. Do I truly deserve for you to sacrifice yourselves for me again..."
