Chapter 1378: Chapter 603 Ancestor’s Divine Palace_2
[The bandit leader pointed to the opposite side and explained: "If you go over there now and look up, you will see numerous creatures frozen stiff, clinging to the mountainside. Those are the corpses of creatures that once attempted to conquer this ice mountain."]
Mu You, upon hearing this, controlled his character to take out the Fog-breaking Mirror and looked up.
Indeed, as suggested by the in-game text, above the mountain’s cloud layer, there were densely packed remains of creatures, all turned into ice sculptures.
Confirming this, Mu You couldn’t help but furrow his brow.
[You asked the bandit, if this mountain is insurmountable by all, then who built the divine palace at the summit?]
A ’divine palace,’ obviously a man-made structure, couldn’t possibly form naturally, right?
["The ancestors!" the bandit leader said. "This peak and the divine palace above have long been the territory of the ancestors. Only those primitives with abnormally strong physical might could withstand the cold of the ice mountain. However, since the rise of the Divine Race, they have withdrawn from here and have never returned."]
"Barbarians huh..."
Mu You nodded, understanding.
Before the rise of the Divine Race, the ancestors dominated the Sky High World with their physical strength, and it made sense for them to establish divine palaces on mountain peaks where others couldn’t reach.
With this in mind, Mu You became even more convinced that there could indeed be the body of the Blood God hidden at the mountain summit! After all, there could be no safer place of imprisonment than such an inaccessible and perilous environment.
"So, does this mean that only with the help of the Barbarians can we possibly reach the summit?" Mu You stroked his chin, this reminded him of a Barbarian he had encountered before.
This Barbarian just happened to live in this Divine Palace Mountain Range, so he wouldn’t need to go looking for a Barbarian specifically. Of course, this was provided he could first persuade this Barbarian to help him.
Thinking this, Mu You searched the term ’Barbarian’ on the forum.
A massive number of related posts instantly popped up.
With the information about the Crow Tribe being publicized on the forum, many Residents of Dawn City had recently flocked here to join the excitement. Many players encountered this Barbarian in the forests at the foot of the mountains, and like Mu You, triggered the ’Barbarian wants something’ event.
"Crying, does anyone know what use is this paper crane given by the Barbarian?" This was the first post on the home page.
Mu You clicked in to have a look.
"Asking the same question. When I first met this Barbarian, he acted like he recognized me and asked me for something. I thought I hit the jackpot and was about to get a Nine Stars bodyguard, so I gave him my relic as a greeting gift, only for him to return to me a useless Paper Crane, then rolled up with my relic and ran off..."
"Damn, I wasn’t the only one duped!"
"I encountered it too, luckily I offered Divinity, which he didn’t want..."
"I am the most miserable! Seeing that you all had given paper cranes, I thought it was because what you gave wasn’t good enough to impress him, so I gave him my Hidden Relic..."
"And then..."
"Then, I got a Paper Crane, just that the number is a bit higher than yours, it’s an 8..."
"..."
"What exactly are these paper cranes for? I see they all have numbers on them, could they be part of some set? If you collect a full set, could it transform into some divine equipment or something?"
"Not sure, you can try collecting a set and then come back to tell me the result."
"I wish I could, but since that Barbarian met me once, he never appeared again. I wanted to give him more things but had nowhere to give."
"Is there no one who wants to come together and try to collect a whole set?"
"I have a Paper Crane (3), selling it cheap for 100 Divinity..."
"Here’s a Paper Crane (1), only for 10 Divinity, please let me recover some losses..."
...
This post revealed ’victims’ numbering in the hundreds, and after comparing notes, they all affirmed the fact that they had been tricked. The following dozen pages were mostly filled with ads wanting to sell off their paper cranes to recover losses.
Mu You exited and browsed through other posts, most of which were non-nutritive complaints, but after much discussion among many players, they did indeed figure out a couple of things.
Firstly, the Barbarian would only appear once for each player; no matter how much that person loitered in the vicinity afterward, the Barbarian would not show up again.
Secondly, the value of the Paper Crane given by the Barbarian directly related to the value of the item given to him; the higher the value of the item, the larger the number on the returned Paper Crane.
Seeing these conclusions, quite a few people developed the idea of collecting all the paper cranes to see if it would trigger a follow-up event.
Unfortunately, no one has accomplished this yet, because the cost involved is simply too high. Giving regular items to the Barbarian only results in paper cranes of numbers 1-6; it seems that the last three types require Hidden Relics.
The value of Hidden Relics in the Sky High World need not be articulated; losing three Hidden Relics in succession, not just ordinary people but even big powers might not be able to afford it.
Moreover, even if you genuinely gave Hidden Relics to the Barbarian, it is very likely to return duplicate Paper Cranes, and collecting all the Paper Cranes requires far more than just nine kinds of items. This kind of investment without a guaranteed return is like a bottomless pit; the bigger the power, the less likely they are to step into a trap when the direction is unclear.
However, after reading these posts, Mu You instead became more interested.
