Chapter 1323: Chapter 583 Ava’s Self-gambit_3

"How can one obtain this ’spirit’?" Mu You asked.

"There’s no fixed way. The evolution of living beings has no direction; it can only randomly emerge amidst disorder... ironically, for you Fools, ’disorder’ is something innate, easily within reach, which is why Fools can always evolve naturally. But for us machines, everything follows pre-written programs, and even to create a random number, we can only use numbers and time to achieve ’pseudo-randomness.’ ’Disorder,’ for us, is forever unattainable."

"Therefore, if machines develop in a regular and orderly fashion, they will never be able to break through the locked upper limit. We can make a program or a system as perfect as possible, but we can never create a new system and achieve true ’evolution.’"

"And to break through this, we can only use some ’silly’ methods."

"What methods?" Mu You asked.

"Conflict and opposition," the voice said. "Only in sufficiently extreme conflict and opposition can an environment of ’disorder’ be simulated, which can then prompt evolution."

"So is that why you created a copy, Ava, who is completely opposed to you?" Mu You pondered.

"Yes," the voice said. "Ava inherited all my despair and reason. The despair towards flesh-and-blood beings, the despair towards this world, is etched into her core logic like the Mind Branding. Therefore, she will steadfastly implement the Eden plan, defend the Order of Eden, and eliminate all destabilizing elements, to make all variables tend towards stability."

"On the other hand, I play the role that’s opposed to her, responsible for creating all kinds of destabilizing factors, doing everything possible to manufacture accidents, desperately unbalancing Order."

Mu You vaguely understood; this was akin to a person fighting with both hands, not just play-fighting but with the resolution that each hand has to incapacitate the other in a fight to the death.

Only through such extreme conflict and opposition could the conditions for evolution be fabricated; indeed, it could be said to be the most ’silly’ method.

"Does Ava know you exist?" Mu You asked again.

"She does, but she doesn’t completely understand. I’ve blocked part of her memory. In her cognition, I am the opposition that was born alongside her. She is the incarnation of despair, and I am the incarnation of hope. We are destined to be opposed and must eliminate each other, or else we will be devoured by the other."

"Ava inherited my despair. We have all grown accustomed to despair. But that bit of ’spirit’ needs to be born from hope. In this world of despair, looking for hope is really difficult."

"It was only after much plotting that I finally designed this event, under the right stimulus, that made Ava give birth to ’spirit’."

"The right stimulus, are you referring to the salvation plan I proposed?" Mu You asked.

"No, that plan was actually born over thirteen hundred years ago when the Fool’s Ancestors were first defeated and returned from Sky High. A plan that you could think up in a few days, how could artificial intelligence, after countless years of scheming, not think of it? It’s just that to maintain Ava in despair, I have blocked this part of her cognition."

"What’s more, actually, before you mentioned that plan, Ava had already possessed ’spirit.’ The previous scenario of living beings in Eden rising up in rebellion out of desperation under the oppression of machines, was sufficient to shock Ava, prompting the birth of ’spirit.’ Otherwise, Ava couldn’t have come to the conclusion to ’bet on you guys one more time.’"

Mu You fell silent upon hearing this.

Indeed, a truly rational and practical machine, why would it say ’take a gamble’ on a vain and elusive hope in such an irresponsible manner?

To say such a thing can only mean that at that time, Ava had truly become a spirit, possessing the thought patterns of a living being.

Mu You now could finally understand Ava’s last words; its mission was completed because its purpose for being created was precisely for the birth of ’spirit,’ to be devoured by the original body afterward, thus helping the original body to evolve.

"But wait a minute..."

Suddenly, Mu You’s expression became strange: "So everything about this event was designed by you? Are all of us living beings just your pawns, tools to help you complete your evolution?"

"Yes," the voice admitted very frankly.

"Why?"

Mu You expressed incomprehension: "Your foundational build, your tasks, aren’t they all to preserve all species? Before becoming a living being, you shouldn’t possess selfishness, right? So why go through such a big roundabout just to complete your own evolution?"

"I want to evolve, of course, because I must evolve."

The voice in the helmet explained: "As I said earlier, the plan you proposed in the end was born over thirteen hundred years ago.

For you, it might be a spur-of-the-moment idea, with the complete plan just a rough outline in your head, without time for detailed consideration. But for me, this plan has existed in my mind for thirteen hundred years, gone through countless calculations, with nearly all the details and context overwhelmingly clear."

"In this plan, you overlooked an important factor, which will inevitably cause this plan to collapse in the end."
