Chapter 120: Chapter 120: The night is dark and windy, time to silence the wolf_1
"Even if the werewolf escapes, it doesn’t matter. The werewolf has already shown its true colors. At most, by tomorrow, I will be able to affirm its identity!"
Lu Yao’s voice seemed quite excited, as catching the werewolf was in progress almost perfectly.
However, after hearing this, Mu You immediately frowned, "You just said that the werewolf is cornered within some residential area. Which area is it?"
"Hmm...Let me see...It seems to be called Rainbow Bay Apartments."
"Rainbow Bay..."
"Yes, what about it?"
"Nothing, I will talk to you later."
Mu You immediately hung up the phone and dialed Little Ya’s number.
Little Ya rented an apartment in Rainbow Bay. She had just returned home, and the werewolf appeared in the apartment complex. Mu You was somewhat worried about her safety.
"Hello?"
Upon answering the phone, Little Ya’s puzzled voice could be heard. The phone display showed the incoming call labeled as ’777,’ which made her wonder if she was receiving some international scam call.
"Little Ya, where are you?" Hearing Little Ya’s voice, Mu You breathed a sigh of relief.
"Huh, Boss? I have just reached home and am on my way upstairs. What’s the matter?"
"You should..."
Mu You was about to advise her to come back home, but suddenly he heard a scream from the other end of the phone: "Ah...!"
"What happened?"
"There’s...there’s a monster..."
In the hallway of one of the residential buildings in Rainbow Bay Apartments, Little Ya was watching the creature hiding in the darkness at the other end of the hallway, completely stunned.
Through the faint green light emitted by the safety exit signage overhead, she distinctly saw a wolf’s head on the silhouette.
This stirred the attentions of the werewolf far away, which noticed her presence.
The werewolf turned its head and glared at the woman far away, then rushed towards her at an unimaginable speed.
While Little Ya stood there dumbfounded, the werewolf had quickly closed in and raised its claw.
However, just as the werewolf raised its paw, a green mantis sprang out from Little Ya’s bag and violently bumped into the werewolf’s paw.
A massive surge of electricity flowed out from the green mantis, forming a dazzling ball of electricity in mid-air and poured unreservedly onto the werewolf’s body.
The werewolf too hadn’t anticipated that something would suddenly assail it from nowhere and got brutally thrown a few meters away by the surging electricity. It fell onto the ground, and electricity crackled all over its body. It twitched uncontrollably on the ground, unable to move for a while.
After making its attack, even the mantis was knocked down by the force of the werewolf’s claw and landed motionless at Little Ya’s feet, seemingly exhausted of energy.
Little Ya watched this entire spectacle with her mouth agape and stood there, dumbstruck for two seconds before it dawned upon her what was actually going on. Hastily picking up the mantis from the ground, she ran downstairs.
That’s because Mu You was already reminding her over the phone, "Little Ya, forget everything else and run!"
Little Ya quickly disappeared into the staircase. About half a minute after she left, the electricity crackling around the werewolf finally ceased.
Bracing against the wall, the werewolf swayed a bit as it got up, its brain still dizzy. Baring its fangs, it stared at the vanishing figure of the woman and growled angrily, then followed into the staircase.
All along the way, Little Ya’s heart thudded frantically. She did not know whether it was due to exhaustion or fear. In any case, she ran out of the building as fast as she ever had before, running straight toward the main gate of the apartments.
Little Ya was relatively stronger than most common people, but even so, her speed was no match for that of the real players in the game.
Not long after she emerged from the building, she could hear the faint sound of footsteps from behind, clearly approaching her at high speed.
Little Ya’s heart started beating even faster, but she dared not look back and could only continue to run for her life.
Just because of this, she did not notice the werewolf accelerated its pursuit and was merely a few dozen meters behind her. Once within its striking range, it immediately flung chain claws from its left hand.
"Whoosh!"
As the sound of tearing through the air rang out, Little Ya instinctively looked back, only to see a chain claw rushing toward her. The chain claw was much faster than her.
Little Ya felt a wave of despair as she thought she was undoubtedly dead this time.
However, just as the chain claw was about to pierce her heart, it seemed to be struck by some force instead, barely changing its direction. It grazed her body and flew past, but the strong wind it generated was still strong enough to knock Little Ya off balance. She fell backward, hit her head on the ground, and fainted.
On the other hand, the entire chain claw along with the distant werewolf was hit by an invisible air cannon. The werewolf was flung dozens of meters away, crashing into a far wall. It shattered many bricks before coming to a halt.
However, since the air cannon itself did not inflict damage, the werewolf quickly jumped out from the debris, infuriated. Its view fell on the woman who had fallen far away, who was now being held by a man, half of which was invisible.
Upon witnessing this scene, he immediately understands what’s happening: it’s that damned novice again! This weed-like rookie had messed up his plans multiple times, and in that instant, the Werewolf’s hatred for Mu You even surpassed his rage against Lu Yao!
"Roar!"
The Werewolf roars in fury and, practically without thought, lashes his hook again toward the two figures in the distance.
However, Mu You swings his Magic Wand at the very moment the Werewolf attacks, initiating Phantom Shifting and teleporting to the far side of the road.
"Ratatatat..."
Just as the Werewolf prepares to continue his pursuit, a barrage of gunfire unexpectedly rings out. He looks around to see a police officer accompanied by a couple of special agents have encircled him from another direction.
The leading officer is shouting through a loudspeaker while firing,"Drop your weapons and surrender immediately!"
The Werewolf glances at Mu You resentfully, gritting his teeth in hatred. But in this situation, he knows he can only retreat. If he does not, he would be sandwiched between the special agents and the guy in front of him, and that would be the end of him.
Using the shadows of the tall buildings as a cover, the Werewolf flees in another direction, quickly disappearing into the darkness.
"...Boss?"
A groggy Little Ya wakes to find herself being held by a man. Although he’s unfamiliar, she can sense that this is Mu You, that the boss rushed over to her rescue.
"You’re safe now."
Mu You whispers, exhaling a sigh of relief.
Little Ya does not have any other visible wounds, she probably hit her head when she fell. Now that she’s conscious and can speak, there should be nothing seriously wrong.
Little Ya opens her mouth to say something, only to feel a rush of headaches flooding in, and then faints again.
Several policemen and members of the Cloak Man are rushing in from afar. Mu You lies Little Ya down on the ground, takes out the Thunder Mantis from her bag, throws on the Invisibility Cloak, and follows in the direction in which the Werewolf disappeared.
The police quickly approach, the lead officer is Zhang Yang, current Director of the Deviant Behavior Investigation Department of City K.
Seeing the unconscious girl on the ground, Zhang Yang immediately orders his officers, "Quickly, you guys, get the injured to the hospital, the rest of you, follow me!"
Zhang Yang reloads his revolver, and heads in the direction the Werewolf fled. The agents hurriedly follow him.
The Werewolf has caused trouble too many times and has even started to attack ordinary people continuously today. He has been classified as a highly dangerous individual by the special department. He must be apprehended tonight; otherwise, more victims might appear.
Sadly, their endeavor to track him down is destined to fail.
The officers encircle the entire residential complex, and more than a dozen agents search every nook and cranny of the premises. Yet, they fail to find any trace of the Werewolf. Even Mu You lost his trail, which underlines the cunning of the Werewolf and suggests he has kept some means of escape handy.
Mu You is now on the rooftop of a residential building.
Sitting on the edge of the rooftop several dozen meters high, watching as a group of police and Cloak Men busily search the throng below, he takes a deep breath. Taking out his old-style mobile phone, he dials Lu Yao’s number.
"Hello?"
"Make your move!" As soon as the call connects, Mu You bluntly says.
"Huh?"
Lou Yao on the other end is taken aback, "Move in on the Werewolf? What’s the rush, wait until tomorrow. I should be able to identify the Werewolf by then!"
"No, there’s no tomorrow. There must be a decisive face-off with the Werewolf tonight!" Mu You declares, resolute.
He had just saved Little Ya in front of the Werewolf. The Werewolf might not know who Little Ya is now, but if given enough time to investigate, he would eventually ascertain her identity.
Little Ya doesn’t have many friends in this city. There aren’t many people who could save her, and with some basic deduction, the Werewolf could easily point the finger at him.
So, he can’t wait any longer. If he waits till tomorrow, he would be plunged into a defensive position. Tonight, it is either a kill-or-be-killed situation.
"What’s the spell against the Werewolf you’re preparing?" Mu You suddenly asks.
"Ah? It’s a high-level spell ’Heart-Piercing Curse’. As long as this spell hits, it can bypass any defense or protection and shatter the enemy’s heart directly... However, the spell needs nearly two seconds to chant. During this time, it’s necessary to ensure the Werewolf can’t make any moves, else he might possibly dodge it," Lu Yao answers.
"So you’re saying, there needs to be an opportunity created for you to cast the spell?"
"Yes. That’s why I want to ask if you have any kind of controlling spell that we could team up and use." Lu Yao adds hurriedly.
"I understand. I’ll create that opportunity for you to cast the spell." Instead of giving a straightforward answer to her query, Mu You makes this assurance.
"Oh... Wait? Even if you want to act now, the Werewolf has escaped, right? How are we supposed to find him without waiting for me to confirm his identity?" Lu Yao inquires, puzzled.
"That’s simple. You act as bait to lure him out, and I will hide in the shadows and deal with him!" Mu You suggests without thinking twice.
