Chapter 118: Chapter 118 Gargoyle_1

"A shortcut to the mountain top?"

Mu You was delighted to see this. With it, he wouldn’t have to climb the thousand-meter mountain from the foot of the Foggy Mountain every time, passing through the dangerous fog area halfway up. It was both dangerous and slow. He would be able to enter the tomb directly and take shortcuts, which was much more convenient.

Mu You chose to confirm this, he certainly needed to head up and check the situation first.

However, he also gripped the pocket watch, in case any danger occurred.

[You are climbing up the stone chimney, you are expected to arrive in ten minutes...]

Climbing a one-thousand-meter tube seemed quite strenuous, so Mu You waited patiently for ten minutes.

[After a difficult climb, you’ve finally reached the chimney exit!]

[As you climb out of the exit, you appear in a snowfield. Laid before your eyes, a world covered with ice and snow, the far-off snowy mountain tops blend into a white texture, barely discernible. A gale carrying frost howls, the intense cold hits you instantaneously causing severe hypothermia, your HP will drop at a rate of 5% per second...]

"Damn, this is terrifying?"

Mu You’s eyelids twitched, hastening to press the pocket watch.

This peak seemed not so easy to reach. At the very least, he needed to prepare some measure against the cold, otherwise, he wouldn’t last even 20 seconds before freezing to death, totally unacceptable.

This would have to wait, only after he had prepared the right cold-resistant tools could he try again.

[As time flows, you return to the inside of the chimney.]

[Having witnessed the extreme environment of the Foggy Mountain summit, you concede impossibility of exploration right now and return to the chamber...]

Again it was a ten-minute wait, as his character returned to the chamber.

Mu You had his character leave the chamber, preparing to teleport away.

However, due to the rush of coming up earlier, he had hurriedly passed over the six tunnels below.

Considering the chimney route he had just found in the chamber, in order not to miss any treasures, Mu You thoroughly searched the entire tomb once more before he left.

— And he really did find something!

[You returned to the big hall at the bottom of the tomb, preparing to leave. But, you suddenly sensed a faint cry in your mind. The sound was barely audible, extremely weak. Your senses told you this seemed to be a call for help. Do you follow it?]

A cry for help?

Mu You was stunned. Weren’t all the creatures in this great hall ripped apart by the Shadow Ghost? Could there still be any alive?

After a moment of thought, Mu You selected ’Track the Source’.

[You followed the sound. After a long search, you finally found a pile of shattered stones at the mouth of one of the tunnels. These stones appeared to be fragments of some sculpture, and that faint cry for help was coming from them.]

[You circled around and collected all similar pieces. From the appearance of these stones, you could vaguely recognize the silhouette of a gargoyle.]

[Gargoyle: This is a magical creature that can transform between life and stone. When it is injured or dead, it enters a petrified state, rapidly repairing itself until it revives. There is no concept of lifespan for gargoyles, as they never truly die. Even if broken into pieces, as long as they are reassembled into a sculpture, they can immediately revive.]

[You have obtained ’Gargoyle Remains’ *17. Do you wish to retrieve it?]

"So it was a gargoyle!"

Mu You suddenly realized. When he obtained the vampire skin before, the game instructions mentioned the existence of this gargoyle. It has been loyally transporting blood to its master for many years, preserving the flesh body from rotting. It was truly loyal.

It seemed that this gargoyle had also been smashed into stones by the shadow ghost, surprisingly it had not died...

Mu You clicked on the "Gargoyle Remains" text.

A pile of stone sculptures appeared on the ground in front of him.

There were only seventeen pieces which weren’t smashed thoroughly. Mu You quickly pieced them together and very soon, assembled an entire gargoyle statue on the table.

But this gargoyle was much smaller than he had envisioned—about the size of a Fwooper—shaped like a miniaturized western dragon, particularly its head. The round and naive face, combined with its pitch-black color, reminded him of the Night Fury from "How to Train Your Dragon".

Immediately after the assembly, a faint vibration came from the stone sculpture, as if something was struggling to break free.

Mu You instantly took a step back, gripping his magic wand tightly.

He was uncertain about the state of the gargoyle after resurrection. If it was a wild creature, it might attack immediately, so it wouldn’t hurt to be cautious.

The gargoyle started trembling more and more severely. After a burst of foul air escaped, the entire statue suddenly sprang to life and flew into midair, flapping its wings.

Mu You could clearly see that the moment the statue started moving, its color darkened slightly. It was no longer stone but had turned into real biological skin.

After the resurrection, the gargoyle seemed somewhat weak. After flapping its wings a few times, it landed back on the table and rapidly scuttled towards Mu You using its short legs.

Mu You was initially on guard, but to his surprise, the gargoyle did not attack him when it approached. Instead, it affectionately rubbed its head against his hand.

Mu You was taken aback, slowly understanding what was happening.

Could it be that because he was still wearing the skin of the vampire, the gargoyle recognized him as its former master?

Mu You looked at the gargoyle next to him, using the Omniscient Crystal to check its attributes.

"A just-resurrected gargoyle, bound to the skin of the vampire as a familiar. It absorbs the blood of the creatures it hunts, transforming it into a ’blood essence’. There can be a maximum of five blood essences at a time. Each day, the gargoyle can transfer one blood essence to its master, aiding the vampire in suppressing the curse of ’Bloodlust’, and at the same time, increasing the master’s lifespan by one year."

So that’s how it is!

Mu You’s eyes lit up. He had thought that such a formidable character as the vampire would have a basic lifespan quest. Turns out, the quest was bound with this gargoyle!

By relying on the gargoyle to transfer blood essence to him each day, not only could he suppress the curse, but it also increased his lifespan. Two birds with one stone!

At this moment, the gargoyle seemed to sense the Bloodlust curse acting up inside Mu You. All of a sudden, it fluttered its wings and perched on his shoulder to transfer a stock of blood essence into him.

Immediately, Mu You felt the chill within him vanish without a trace, instead an undercurrent of warmth emerged, bringing comfort.

All he could say was, luckily he had decided to search more before leaving. This gargoyle was incredibly useful, dissolving his curse effect right away.

However, it seemed that this gargoyle was bound only to the vampire skin. If he were to remove the vampire skin, he wondered if it would still recognize him as its master...

Upon this thought, Mu You took the gargoyle off his shoulder and placed it on the table. He gently pressed down on its wings at the back, then tried to remove the vampire skin while observing the gargoyle’s response.

Result was, the gargoyle did not attack him. Instead it looked at him in confusion, as if wondering why its master’s image had suddenly changed. However, after recognizing his scent, it quickly resumed nuzzling its head against Mu You’s palm.

Now, Mu You was completely assured. He opened the space in his backpack and released the gargoyle into it.

This gargoyle had neither level nor attack power and was similar to Cola, a non-combat domestic familiar. It was somewhat dangerous for it to hunt, so he let it stay inside his backpack.

Within the mountain range newly appearing in his backpack, there were many small creatures for it to hunt and replenish blood essence.
