Chapter 1147: Chapter 519: Blood Clan Mass Grave
"Blood Clan Ancestor?"
Mu You was taken aback. Wasn’t that the old ancestor of the Vampires who had died over two thousand years ago?
The diary that recorded his birthing process...
But come to think of it, indeed all Vampires existing today were created generation after generation by this Blood Clan Ancestor, so how did this first Vampire come into existence?
[May hands you a battered and ancient tome.]
[You have received the ’Incomplete Diary of the Vampire Ancestor’.]
Mu You extracted the diary to take a look.
An extremely old book appeared in his hands; it was called a diary but more closely resembled a relic that had just been unearthed, with pages yellowing and brittle. Nine out of ten pages were torn and virtually illegible.
Mu You told May in the game to wait a moment, sat down, and carefully flipped through the ’diary’ from beginning to end.
Due to some of the writing being excessively blurred, and the narrative of the diary itself being fragmented, Mu You spent over an hour sketching and inferring, and finally only managed to half-guess a summary of some parts of the information in the diary.
The gist of the diary was that the old ancestor of the Blood Clan had been a mere farmer a long time ago until one day, by a twist of fate, he entered a mysterious city. After staying there for half a year, upon leaving, he found himself endowed with the ability of immortality and various miraculous Vampire Abilities.
However, he had lost all memories of his time in the city. He could not recall how he acquired his powers and abilities, that half-year’s experience seemed to have been forcibly excised from his brain.
The only things that remained in his mind were a name and a piece of Legend.
This man was named ’Cain’, also a farmer like himself. Cain had a younger brother named Abel, a shepherd. One day, a messenger of a certain deity found them, requesting that the brothers sacrifice their most treasured possessions to show their sincerity to the lord.
Cain offered vegetables and grains from his fields as his tribute, while Abel slaughtered the fattest livestock from his flock as his offering. The deity was endlessly pleased with Abel’s sacrifice but paid no heed to Cain’s offerings.
Cain was deeply pained by this. As a farmer, he had already offered the very best he had to the deity—why was it still not enough to satisfy the god? He questioned the messenger, who told him that the deity wanted their most precious things from their hearts and that Cain must be hiding something, causing the deity’s dissatisfaction.
Cain suddenly understood. At the second sacrifice, Cain drew a Knife and killed his favorite thing—his brother Abel—offering him to the deity.
The deity was enraged, declaring that Abel was not Cain’s most beloved, but Cain had killed him purely out of jealousy for his brother being favored by the god.
The deity then placed three curses upon Cain:
First, he and his descendants would forever crave blood, only able to live as parasites.
Second, he and his descendants would forever fear the sunlight, forced to hide like rats in the dark drains all day.
Third, Cain would be undead and unable to truly die, eternally suffering the torment of the first two curses within the curse named Eternal.
Mu You furrowed his brows as he read the content written on the paper.
This man known as ’Cain’ was also the Blood God widely worshipped by the Vampires in the Star Spirit World. He was acknowledged by the Blood Clan as the progenitor of Vampires.
Nevertheless, the legend only mentioned the three Vampire curses placed upon Cain by a deity but did not detail how he gained his powers or how he later became the Blood God.
In any case, that was all the information that could be gleaned from this diary.
Just as Mu You was about to put away the diary, he noticed the corner of a thin piece of paper quietly protruding from a crevice between the pages.
He pulled out the paper and unfolded it to find a hand-drawn map.
The lines on this map were incredibly crude, resembling hasty scribbles, with only the general shape of a continent discernible. At a certain location in the middle, there was a small cross marked.
"Is this the birthplace of the Vampire Ancestor?" Mu You raised an eyebrow.
The map found within this diary couldn’t possibly be unrelated to it. Most likely, it marked the very ’place’ mentioned in the diary.
Mu You quickly fetched a map of the Star Spirit World and compared it to the continent on the paper. Soon enough, he confirmed a spot that bore a striking resemblance—No Return Desert!
"In the desert?" Mu You was surprised.
The No Return Desert was the largest expanse of sand in the Star Spirit World. Mu You had visited portions of this landmass before, including the Blue Stone Desert and the Crimson Desert, which were part of that continental area.
Mu You hadn’t expected that the place of the Vampire’s origin would be in a sun-drenched desert. Regardless, now that he had found a clue, the truthfulness of it warranted going to see for himself.
Then, Mu You returned to the game and told May that he planned to take a look at the desert. May immediately requested to join him, but Mu You turned her down.
The desert could be said to be the least suitable place for Vampires to venture in the entire Star Spirit World. Fools at least had other skins they could use to move about during the day, but a genuine Vampire visiting the desert was just asking for trouble.
[Under May’s reluctant gaze, you bid her farewell and stepped alone into the Teleportation Array of the City of Eternal Night.]
[You appear in the City of Dawn.]
The desert region was just where the City of Dawn served as a resting area. Mu You had quite a few acquaintances here, and besides Solomon, Evans, the legion commander of the Ezomal Empire, was also an old friend.
