Chapter 1133: Chapter 514: Return
City K’s northern suburbs.
This area was originally a desolate stretch of mountains and ridges, which had been further ravaged by a recent massive tsunami, making it even more barren, with no sign of a human for miles around.
But right now, this place, which should have seen little human activity, was teeming with a large number of soldiers.
Hundreds of armed servicemen were gathered around a certain spot on the mid-mountain slope, each one on high alert.
From within their ranks, a heated argument could be heard.
"So we’re really our own people, officer! Please, let us go..."
Encircled by the crowd were three individuals, two men and a woman. The one who had just spoken was the tallest and most burly of the trio, wearing an exaggerated scarf in the scorching summer heat, with dark circles under his eyes and a fierce look on his face that suggested he was not to be trifled with.
The other two included a youthful-looking boy, who hadn’t said a word since he appeared and stood arms crossed to the side like a stone buddha. The woman was toying with a foxtail and sitting on a green stone at the back, yawning out of sheer boredom—she didn’t seem to pose any threat.
Nonetheless, no one dared to take them lightly.
For these three individuals were all epic-level masters above level 20!
To understand, such characters are fewer than three digits in number amongst all of humanity, and each one is a well-known expert!
Yet these three didn’t match up with any known experts; coupled with the fact that they had climbed out of the mysterious well that they were guarding—which was said to be directly connected to the Star Spirit World—it made everyone suspect whether these three might be spies who had smuggled themselves over from the Star Spirit World.
"Do any of you have any identification from an Earth nation?" The leading soldier suddenly asked.
"No."
"Is there a Fool role in your game?"
"Er, no."
"..."
The officer didn’t ask further, but his cold gaze said it all: who would believe that people without even a Fool role were from Earth?
"Come on, think about it. If we were from the Star Spirit World, could we speak Chinese so fluently? Do you want us to say something more in dialect to prove my pure lineage?" Watchman spread his hands in exasperation.
The group exchanged glances upon hearing this, because the latter part of his sentence was spoken in the local dialect of City K—a dialect that none of the local-born soldiers could find any fault with. If this was the work of spies, it was extremely professional.
"Sorry, folks, duty calls. Please understand. Until you can provide proof of your identity, I cannot let you leave," said the commanding officer coldly.
"Fine, fine, our ’Boss’ will be here soon anyway..." Watchman sighed helplessly, giving up the struggle.
The three were naturally Mu You’s three duplicates who, after handling matters on the Star Spirit World side, rushed over to Fuya’s ancestral home with the intention to return to Earth through the well.
Unexpectedly, the well on this side had already been taken over by the military, and they were immediately surrounded upon arriving.
Fortunately, they had informed Mu You before coming back. The original body, noticing their delayed return, should be on his way over to check on things.
At that moment, a female soldier with pen and paper in hand approached and set up a table and chair not far away, then sat down and looked at the trio.
"Sorry about this, but if you could, please provide some simple registration information," the female soldier said cautiously.
"Of course!" Watchman cooperated actively, while the other two remained indifferent.
"Name."
"Oh, I’m Number One," Watchman laughed, and then, sensing no response from behind, pointed to the two behind him: "This is Number Two, and this is Ling Long."
The female soldier’s face twitched with amusement at their names but didn’t ask further and simply recorded them.
"Age."
"We’re all four thousand years old... Okay, I know you won’t believe that; just consider us all to be twenty-seven," Watchman eventually stated their original age.
"I’m eighteen..." Ling Long quietly added from behind.
The female officer continued to make a record nonetheless.
"Where are you from? Who are your parents?"
"We’re from City K, as for our parents... well, you’ve got me there."
Watchman scratched his head and turned back to look at Medicinal Plant Gatherer and Ling Long: "Humans are born of their mothers; monsters are born of theirs. What are we born of?"
"..." Both gave him an exasperated glance and said nothing.
"Enough chatter."
Seeing Watchman about to speak again, Ling Long quickly interrupted, then turned to the female officer not too far away: "Miss, no need to ask more. Our Boss will be here soon, and you can ask him."
As Ling Long spoke, she winked at the female soldier, who shivered suddenly, unable to explain why, but that look made her hairs stand on end, sending a chill throughout her body for no reason.
Unable to pin down the unsettling feeling, the female soldier hurriedly packed her pen and paper and quickly left the scene.
Silence fell on the area.
The soldiers surrounding them breathed a sigh of relief; the most formidable-looking of the trio turned out to be surprisingly talkative and had barely stopped talking since he appeared, much to everyone’s headache.
After about an hour of quiet, a commotion ripple through the crowd outside.
An exclamation passed from the outskirts to the inside: The Ghost Captain has arrived!
"It’s my people, no mistake."
On the periphery, Mu You nodded to the head officer and took over his clipboard: "Sorry for the trouble, I’ll take these three off your hands, and I’ll be responsible for disciplining them."
