Chapter 1131: Chapter 513 Bitter Epilogue
In the Bitter Garden, the sweet scent of rain continued to fall relentlessly.
The rain grew heavier, quickly extinguishing all the burning buildings and vegetation; the parched soil became moist again, and a hazy mist gradually rose over the whole land.
In the midst of the rain, countless fairies and native humans wandered about the city with vacant eyes, listless and aimless, like a horde of mindless zombies.
This was the inevitable effect of the Elixir of Oblivion. With the ongoing rain, not only would people gradually forget past events, but they also continuously forgot what they were experiencing in the moment, and couldn’t even remember to use an umbrella while getting drenched, thus aimlessly loitering as they were now.
"Isn’t the dosage a bit too harsh?"
In a pavilion on the side of the street, three duplicates gathered to take shelter from the rain. Ling Long, observing the somber scene of zombie-like wanderers outside, looked worriedly at the Medicinal Plant Gatherer, "Won’t this rain just soak them into stupidity?"
"Harsh? I even feel it’s not enough. If we don’t increase the dosage now, the trouble will fall on us later," said the Medicinal Plant Gatherer, calmly.
"So, what do you plan for the endgame?" Ling Long frowned at the Medicinal Plant Gatherer.
What she disliked most about this fellow was just this, liking to silently scheme alone, not willing to clearly share with them, always leaving them feeling utterly blind to his true inner thoughts.
Perhaps sensing Ling Long’s impatience, the Medicinal Plant Gatherer paused and finally spoke more.
"Have you noticed that fairies who contracted with the Fool became much more mentally stable?"
Ling Long was startled by the comment, pondered for a bit, then nodded, "That’s true, Little Lanlan aside, Tina and Eli-chan, despite having undergone such tremendous mental shocks, didn’t show tendencies of becoming abnormal..."
"You mean..." The Watchman hazily guessed the Medicinal Plant Gatherer’s intentions.
"If that’s viable, then we should expand on it. After all, our fundamental goal is to ensure that as many fairies here survive as possible. Getting them all to contract with the Fool is the most efficient method," said the Medicinal Plant Gatherer.
"Do we need to... move away?" Tina asked uncertainly.
She knew that the Fools were a restless bunch and wouldn’t possibly allow a large group of Fools to stay long-term in the Bitter Garden. To contract with the Fool, the fairies would have to go out.
"Yes, after all, this place can no longer sustain people," nodded the Medicinal Plant Gatherer.
The group of fairies they exiled before were now in the Star Spirit World. If these fairies got close to the Bitter Garden, they risked being controlled by Gusha. Therefore, the Bitter Garden could only remain hidden in this concealed world.
Gusha was a monster that toyed with people’s hearts. To it, the strongest seal wasn’t the Seal Spear or the Guardian, but to evacuate all the people and fairies from the Bitter Garden, turning it into an Empty City.
Only by depriving it of all possible targets for its abilities, would the Bitter Garden become Gusha’s true prison.
"Since that’s the case, let’s take action now, while our authority still holds..." After hearing the plan, Ling Long agreed with the Medicinal Plant Gatherer’s strategy.
Next, the three duplicates immediately began their tasks, each rushing to three different nations.
When the rain stopped, the three gathered their respective nationals and announced the impending mass relocation.
By this time, the fairies and natives were just recovering from the amnesia brought by the rain. Still unclear about what had happened, surrounded by the ruins of their homes, they were utterly bewildered at the shocking news.
For this, the three had already consulted on a pretext.
The fact that the Fairy Mother Tree was transformed from a monster’s tail could not be disclosed publicly in the city. It would shake the fairies’ most fundamental worldview and cause even more fairies to become abominable.
So, the three didn’t mention anything about Gusha. They just explained that they had discovered a new Fairy King Clan in the Star Spirit World and were therefore leading them back to the Star Spirit World to accept the new king’s rule. As long as the fairies were willing to follow this Royal Family, they would have the opportunity to cultivate a new Fairy Mother Tree, allowing the Fairy Race to return to prosperity.
Of course, a new Fairy Mother Tree and such was actually impossible. The Fairy Race, having lost its source of population, couldn’t possibly flourish again. But for now, the three could only come up with such a pretext. As for how to explain it later, they didn’t care and left it for the Fairy Lady to worry about.
This reason indeed convinced the fairies. The wilting of the Mother Tree had been the hardest for them to accept over the years. Now, finally having the hope of cultivating a new Mother Tree, the fairies were overjoyed, each returning home to pack their belongings and prepare for the move.
Next, Ling Long opened the entrance from the Bitter Garden to the Star Spirit World, and the fairies began to pass through slowly.
To ensure the safety of the fairies, Dawn City had already halted near the Imperial Capital. The returning fairies were all sent to Dawn City at first notice.
The whole relocation process took nearly three days to complete.
As the portal had a time limit, Mu You and Fuya returned to the Star Spirit World ahead of time before the first day ended, summoning the Fairy Lady to submit the task.
The original task of the Fairy Lady was for her to find the whereabouts of the Fairy Race and bring back the Bitter Garden.
Unfortunately, that was clearly impossible. After summoning the Fairy Lady, Mu You explained the situation and its reasons.
Fortunately, the Fairy Lady was understanding enough, recognizing the importance of the matter, and didn’t declare the mission a failure. Instead, she was grateful for the contributions of the duplicates over the years. In such perilous circumstances, to have saved so many of her people and brought them back safely was more than she could have dared to hope for.
