Chapter 49: The Lotus Of Truth [1]

The trial had already begun.

According to the novel, there were three trials in total, each with increasing difficulty of tribulation.

The first one was the lotus of truth.

It was quite simple, in my opinion, as you have to defeat a conjured creature from your past itself.

A psychological warfare, at first, to overcome your past trauma, in summary.

For the protagonist, a demon was conjured, who was the reason for his mother and sister’s death.

Let’s see what do I get.

My surrounding was quite visible, as I was at the same spot, where the Broken Sword gleamed, but there was nothing there.

Most accurately, no living creature was there.

The moss and grasses which was widespread on the rocks were all gone.

It was eerily silent.

I moved forward with the anticipation of encountering some monster on the way.

The structure of the ruins had changed perhaps, because there were some unknown paths before me, which I never encountered while coming here.

The key to defeat the conjured creature is to stay calm, first.

Most people who tried to gain this sword were overwhelmed by their past trauma, and visuals of the creature destroying what was once precious to them.

The protagonist Aster, was also disgusted to the core, when he saw the demon mercilessly rape his mother and sister both, for days, cut them to pieces, and fed the magical beasts.

It was such a vile scene, anyone would have been mortified by it.

But the protagonist succeeded in the end, while keeping his nerves in control.

With that in mind, I chose one of the paths, and moved forward.

Strangely, it was quite visible, without any light reaching the path, which made it quite clear as to where it was going.

As if the path itself decided my fate long ago.

It was strangely familiar too.

As I walked down, there was some noise I heard.

Probably, someone was saying something.

This is most probably an illusion, because once you are inside the trial, you will only be able to return to reality after passing all of them.

And suddenly, I was able to see light.

There was a little turning in the front, from where the light was coming.

I was guided by it, and just as I turned, a sort of panic seized my heart.

I saw a few people in some distance.

I knew they were illusions, but I need to prepare myself for anything.

As I don’t have any memory of my past, the incident which this trial is showing me, is not very clear.

But, I can deduce what is happening from the surroundings.

It was a jail, an underground one, most probably inside a dungeon, due to it’s uneven structure.

There were lamps placed at equal distances, which were the sources of light.

And there were cells, most probably 4 or 5 in a row, and those people were standing in front of one of the cells at the very end of this long hallway.

One woman, dressed in a cloak, most probably to cover her face, and two guards beside her, with full pleated armor and spear in each of their hand.

They turned towards my direction for a second, before I hid behind the wall.

I will decide my course of action after observing them for a while.

Their conversation was loud enough to reach my ears.

There was someone behind the bars of the cell, who was most probably talking with the woman outside.

"Where are Friedrich’s documents hidden?", the woman asked in agony.

There was a moment of silence between them, as someone from the cell answered in a very playful tone.

"I will give you the location of the documents, ...if you suck my cock for 5 minutes straight."

"..."

It was only then I realized that the person in the cell was Dorian Valen, in other words myself.

Inside the classroom, sat the students of first year, all in one classroom.

They were supposed to be divided on the basis of the class division exam, which was interrupted by an unknown entity, taken care of by the second year professor, Cedric Rowan, the elder brother of Alicia Rowan.

Nothing much was disclosed to the public, because Cedric took the custody of the culprits into his own hands.

Yet, no one in the entire kingdom dare to defy his whims.

Not because he is the son of Duke Rowan, but because they know what would be the consequence of doing so.

He is not one to be controlled by others after all.

That is one of the reasons why Alicia fears him the most.

Yet again, there was something else that was bothering the homeroom teacher of first years, who was teaching to all of them, about emergency cases, and how to avoid loss of life, in such circumstances as a preliminary lecture to the main course.

Due to the dungeon incident, it was strictly applied by the principal himself, who is in talks with the Royal Court and other Great Noble Houses, apologizing for the mishap caused.

Now, here is the strange thing.

A total of 197 students entered the dungeon, but 199 were rescued.

And, the strange part is none of them seems to be suspicious.

It was like there were 199 from the start, except Dorian Valen who was suspended.

Valerys de Cresent, after completing her lecture, looked at the faces of her students, as if scanning them to the bone, yet nothing seemed out of place.

It was kind of creepy to think how was it even possible.

As if the reality itself was changed due to an illusion spell.

Whatever it was, needed to be fixed right away, as Valerys got out of the classroom and headed towards the student council room, to discuss some things with Alicia.

She opened the door to the council room, and was greeted by the student council president, Alicia, and another unexpected first year student.

Monica Croft.

"You didn’t attend my class Monica?", Valerys asked how did she get here before her, when the class just ended.

"Yes, I did professor. There was something important I wanted to discuss with Miss Alicia, so I got here as soon as the class ended.", she replied, exuding confidence.

"Something important? Let’s hear it then.", Valerys said, as she took a seat beside Monica, and insisted both of them to sit down too.

Monica looked at Alicia for confirmation, and as she nodded, Monica sat down, deciding to let the teacher know about it too.

"Um,.... it’s about the suspended student, Dorian Valen........I have evidences of his innocence, so would it be possible to revoke his suspension?"
