Chapter 360: Busy Playing Cupid

As soon as Raine was finished touring Mara along with their friends, they all came back to the mansion. Returning to where they started, Raine was about to check on Nathan when her father appeared in the living area.

"He already left for work. He said he’s feeling well already, and that he will call you as soon as he is able," her father explained. "He also told me to tell you that something important came up and that he didn’t wait for you to see him. Instead, he just left in a hurry."

Raine simply nodded in understanding, knowing just how busy her husband could be since he practically just returned to their clan. He still had a lot of fixing to do as the new king, especially with all of the mess that her father Marcus had left.

"I have to go as well," Lyne informed with a smile. "I honestly just wanted to drop by to see your twin and check on you."

"Wow, seems like the new Luna will be quite busy as well," Mia teased.

Levi chuckled. "It won’t be for a while till I’ll be used with Lyne’s absence. Hell, she’s more organized than I am," he weakly grinned. "I’m kind of feeling the pressure of filling in the position she left. I can only hope that I can meet expectations."

Faintly smiling, Lyne patted Levi’s shoulder. "You’ll do just fine, Levi. You don’t need to copy my style of working anyway since we’re two different people," she encouraged him. "Just do your best on how you want it to be, alright?"

Levi simply nodded, and Lyne soon bid each of them farewell. Lastly, she looked at Mara and said, "It’s nice meeting you again, Mara. I’m relieved that you arrived at just the right time." She then chuckled and humorously added, "At least they gained another addition to the family to supplement my absence."

Raine chuckled at Lyne’s sappy message. "Hah, don’t make it sound like you’re already out of our family," she pointed out. "Remember, this is still your home. You can always come over anytime you want."

Lyne nodded in appreciation at her friend’s words before she left with a smile. As soon as she left, Mia and Levi also dispersed to attend to their duties, leaving only Raine with Mara and Lark in the living room.

"I’ll go and see what’s for lunch," Lark bluntly commented, leaving the twins alone.

Mara and Raine remained seated on the couch. There was silence between them for a beat before the former broke it and asked, "You didn’t answer me a while ago, Sis. Will you let me be involved in the Moonlight Squad? I’m sure you can look at my credentials and how perfectly I fit I am for the job. Not to mention you saying that I have even more special abilities than you..."

Raine stopped herself from biting her tongue. What her twin said was true, but she was still hesitant in allowing her to join them. That was easier said than done, and in actual fieldwork, it would be quite different since her twin would have to face different kinds of monsters.

"You don’t have the experience in actually hunting, my dear. It’s very different than just simply hunting bad guys like the military does," Raine explained. "Unlike fighting humans with their weapons, in the underworld, you’ll be fighting monsters, and they could be quite powerful. One wrong move and you can lose your life in a snap."

Raine made sure to bluntly state the truth. She didn’t want to scare Mara, but that was simply the reality of things. Yes, Mara might have more special abilities than her, but experience-wise? Not so much.

Hell, she was trained for it since she was a kid, and it still held dangers for her. Her hands had been stained with different colors of blood ever since she was seven, and from there, it became nonstop until she could do it all day as she grew up!

Pouting, Mara complained. "I know what you mean, and I’m still willing to try this," she insisted. "If you want, you can even put me through even more training and test me using those monsters. I’m not afraid. I’m confident that I can do this!"

Looking her twin in the eye, Raine could sense the determination coming from Mara. Her dear twin didn’t even bat an eye at her stare. She was still staring at her as if telling her that she was ready to battle her without a second thought.

As much as she wanted to keep her safe and just let her live a normal life, Raine knew that her sister should live her life the way she wanted to. She had no right to hold her back just because she supposedly knew what was best for her.

Blinking, Raine finally let out a loud sigh as she said, "Fine... But you have to train up for it first and see how you’ll progress. If you fail, then I won’t have this conversation with you again."

Mara excitedly nodded as she snorted, "Hmmp. I’ll definitely pass whatever you throw at me. I’ll show you what I’ve got!"

Raine shook her head as she grabbed the remote of the television to turn it on. Beside her, Mara hooked her arms around hers as she asked, "So when are we going to start?"

Raine creased her forehead as she stopped at the news channel. Humming, she murmured, "After the election. You can relax and enjoy your stay here with me until then..."

"Election? When is that?" Mara asked before she followed her twin’s gaze toward the television. There, Raine felt Mara’s grip on her arms tighten as she whispered, "John..."

Raine turned to Mara, the latter’s face turning pale as she spoke. "He’s here? That’s John... and he’s..."

Raine shrugged. She had almost forgotten about Chad who went by the name of John at Country D. He, using his John alias, had entered Chan’s Family as Keira’s Chan’s bodyguard before. There... Keira assigned him to be Mara’s guardian while she was still inside the private facility to condition her in all aspects of normalcy before facing the outside world.

"His real name is Chad Quan," Raine informed her twin. "He’s the current king of the Earth Clan."

Turning to face her sister, Raine saw Mara’s eyes well up as tears streamed down her cheeks. "All these years, I’ve been thinking of him. I was so worried... wondering how he’s doing..." Mara whispered. "Keira didn’t tell me a thing. He just disappeared without a trace... Now I know why."

Mara sobbed hard, and Raine did as any good sister would as she quickly pulled her into her embrace. "Hush now... Indeed, he had his reasons for leaving," she comforted her. "He probably thought it’s for the best to ensure your safety. And besides, his life has been in danger numerous times during those years due to all the turmoil and power struggles inside the Earth Clan."

Sniffling, Mara gently pushed Raine away as she looked into her eyes and asked, "Is there a way to get close to him? Please help me, Sister..."

Ah, indeed, there was a way, and that was by involving Mara in the operations of Mirage. Mara could use it as an excuse to see Chad whenever she wanted...

Raine shrugged in resignation. It looked like she would be very busy playing cupid for a while again.
