Chapter 346: I Really Do (1)

Gathering her courage, Lyne finished off the last of her wine before casting her eyes in Boris’s direction. She was already starting to feel more confident than she had ever felt for a while now, and she didn’t want to throw away the opportunity to just go ahead and say it to Boris’s face while she still had it in her to do so. She was just sure that she’ll lose her nerve if she decided to put this off for another day, and a part of her really didn’t want to disappoint Raine just after they shared that beautiful talk earlier.

’You can do this, Lyne,’ she psyched herself up. ’There’s no need to put this off for later...’

Setting down her empty glass, Lyne took in a deep breath before she walked right up to Boris. The general feel of the room seemed to shift the moment she did so, everyone around them seemingly giving them a decent berth as the two of them awkwardly stared at one another.

"Lyne," Boris nodded, his eyes roaming around in an effort to not look at her. "What’s up?"

"Can I talk to you for a moment?" she asked, not bothering with any sort of small talk as her heart hammered in her chest. "Preferably somewhere private."

"O-Oh, sure thing."

Seeing him nod, Lyne quickly took him by the hand before excusing themselves from the party itself. By the edges of her vision, she saw Raine giving her a thumbs up, and she couldn’t help but smile as she took her friend’s encouragement to heart.

"Where are we going?" Boris asked behind her, his skin starting to burn hot against her palms as she kept on pulling him with her.

"Somewhere private," she repeated, not wanting to admit that she was taking him to her room in the Yue mansion.

Shaking her head, Lyne could feel her confidence dropping with each step that she took. Still, she soldiered on, keeping Raine’s words to heart as she forced herself to go through with what she was planning. She knew in herself that she wasn’t ready, but if the Boss thought that she was ready, then she would rather trust that than her own gut instinct.

Reaching her room, Lyne practically pulled him in with her before quickly locking the door, her face starting to bloom red as she did her best to keep her breath steady.

"L-Lyne? Is this..."

"Yes, Boris. This is my room," Lyne bravely nodded, turning around to see a thoroughly confused Boris looking around her room. "Anywhere else wouldn’t be private enough for my taste."

"I see," he nodded, humming in approval. "Well, then. We’re here now, so what is it you wanna talk about?"

Feeling her chest expand, Lyne took in another deep breath as she pooled as much courage within her as she possibly could. This was it. There was no turning back from this. The moment those words of hers left her mouth, she was going to be signing away her life with Raine to be... To be with Boris...

"I... I accept..."

Boris blinked. "Accept what?"

Lyne almost wanted to scream at the dumbfounded look her supposed mate was giving her. Really? Now was the time he was going to play this card? "Your offer," she weakly mumbled, her annoyance not enough to deter her embarrassment from fraying her nerves. "Put it on me."

Again, Boris blinked, but this time, a dawning acceptance began to flicker in his eyes. To her surprise, his face turned bright red as he began fumbling around his pockets.

"O-Oh! O-Of course!" he blurted out, his hands practically shaking as he pulled out the same box that almost made Lyne want to bury her face in her hands out of pure embarrassment. "H-Here it is."

Seeing him open the box, Lyne held her breath as she finally took a look at the ring inside of it. The glimmering rock perched on the ring was pretty massive, perhaps even costing a fortune that she knew would’ve probably hurt his newly-reacquired pack’s coffers.

Blinking, she raised her hands, the flurry of emotions inside her chest coalescing to the point that her face was frozen in a perpetual faint smile. In front of her, Boris gingerly took her raised hand, taking the ring he had brought for her and putting it on her finger.

"T-There..." Boris breathed out, his voice shaking from all the adrenaline that was probably running through his system. "W-We’ll be getting married then..."

"Y-Yes... Yes, we will..."

Lyne nodded, her own body also shaking with how much her nerves were affecting her. Still, she couldn’t help but feel happy despite the dawning apprehension that was building up at the back of her mind. She would be his Luna then, a leader of his pack...

No... She really didn’t want to think about it right now...

"Lyne?"

"Y-Yes?"

"Are you okay?"

Lyne blinked. The worry in his tone shook her back to reality as she nodded. "I’m fine. It’s just... It feels surreal to know that I’m taken now..."

"I feel the same, to be honest," Boris chuckled. "To think that I have you now... My mate... My love..."

Lyne felt her cheeks burn upon hearing his words. All of a sudden, the fear in her heart seemed distant at the moment, replaced with a blooming warmth and heat that she felt for the man in front of her.

"I... I love you too, Boris..." she weakly smiled, her eyes shimmering as she looked at him. "I really do..."

Boris held his breath, his gaze boring straight into hers as the world seemed to stop. Almost instantly, they were reminded that they were alone inside a small room, one that had a bed whose door was also locked...

Blinking, Lyne felt her body move on its own as she moved closer to her bed. She didn’t know why, but she felt as if she had this debt to pay to him... For ridding her of one of her many inner demons.

"L-Lyne?"

"I... I want this," Lyne looked up at him, a hint of determination burning inside her eyes. "I want you to mark me."
