Chapter 222: No choice but to kill Marcus

At the moment, everyone inside the meeting room seemed to already be aware of how Raine had the blood of a fallen angel running through her veins.

"How cunning could that Marcus be that he deliberately announced that his daughter was born from a fallen angel?!" Danos sarcastically complimented. "Hah!!! No wonder the bit*ch was almost untouchable!"

"He had directly sent the live footage video of my son and Crissa, saying that I could watch the two die in real time should we fail to do the exchange with him before the allotted time expires!" Lucio hissed. "Then he deliberately mentions that no one should dare kill her daughter unless we’re ready to face our doom?! What’s there to even discuss then? It’s obvious that the best plan is to do the exchange before we attack!"

"What bothers me the most though is why would he even have to send a messenger in the first place," Sasha mumbled, "Why bother when he’d send that video to Father anyway? Relaying his message for an exchange in such a way would’ve been redundant..."

Nathan’s face flinched upon hearing Sasha’s observation, his jaw clenching since he knew why Marcus had sent Mia. By now, since Mia had returned alive, Marcus probably thought that he was nothing more than a soft-hearted king like his Father... someone that he could conceivably crush with ease. His knowing that Nathan wasn’t ruthless enough to harm Raine and the people around her was all the confirmation needed to reach such a conclusion.

"He’s definitely mocking us right now!" Danos barked out, voicing out his utter displeasure with Nathan’s decision. "That’s why I told you all to kill that messenger and send her head back to Marcus! But no! Our King seemed hellbent on taking care of our hostages and even keeping them unharmed, including that messenger!"

"You shouldn’t forget that I’m also from the Moon Clan, Elder Danos. It’s natural for me to show mercy on my people..." Nathan leveled out.

"My fight is only against Marcus. He’s the only person that is truly a threat to us, with the people inside the Moon Clan having no other choice but to follow all his orders. That’s why I propose that I, with a few of our fighters along with Boris, should plan an attack on the Moon Clan and assassinate Marcus. And then, we’ll rescue Lucio’s son and Decan’s daughter."

The King solidified his tone as he presented his case, "We don’t have to fight against the entirety of the Moon Clan. Once I eliminate Marcus from the equation, our two groups can then proceed with the peace treaty we’ve longed waited for. We don’t need to shed any more blood than necessary. Such a thing would only lead to nothing but a continuous cycle of blood feuds and revenge. Eventually, there would be nothing left from this hypothetical never-ending war between humans and werewolves." Nathan pointed his gaze across the elders. "That is what we should do. I don’t want this war to escalate further than it already has."

"And what about that Princess?!" Danos scoffed as he grunted. "She’s Marcus’s daughter! And I’m sure she will have her revenge for her father’s death-"

"She’s not Marcus’s daughter," Davin’s voice interrupted as the vampire suddenly popped out of nowhere.

At the intrusion, all eyes went to Davin as he continued. "It’s still true that she’s the daughter of a fallen angel. That fallen angel was Ava, the woman Marcus had loved his whole life... the woman that they had kept as a part of the family. Unfortunately for him, that woman fell in love with another man..." He took in a slight breath before he elaborated further. "It was a man from another clan, Raine’s father, so to speak. Let’s just say that Marcus was simply delusional enough to believe that Raine was his daughter, keeping her as his child since she looked exactly like her mother." Davin sighed, "Anyway, it’s a long story that I simply don’t have time to explain to everyone."

Turning away from Davin, Nathan looked at Boris, the latter nodding as he took a step forward and began his tale, "While I was inside the Moon Clan Territory, I discovered the truth behind King Marcus’s secret. The reality is that he and Yun were merely adopted and that they do not bear the royal blood."

He then continued, "That was the reason why he eradicated King Arthur and all his followers, using the fact that the former King married a werewolf and was harboring mutants that were all perceived threats within the clan with their various attacks and infecting others. In truth, it was a well-planned eradication scheme that Marcus conducted together with his brother, Yun. Fortunately, Nathaniel survived that attempt."

A brief lull settled across the room, only for it to be broken as Danos rolled his eyes as he barked, "We’re not interested in that Boris! Our only concern is on whether to do the exchange and kill Marcus afterwards."

Boris arched his brows, "I’m just telling the story. So will you just shut up with your assumption that Raine would take revenge?! She’s not like her father." He sighed, "Besides, the werewolves she killed before were all rogues. Her squad doesn’t attack the innocent! You should watch your language about her because Raine was King-"

Boris stopped himself mid-sentence, Aspen elbowing him hard as a warning for him to watch his words. Truly, he had a mind to crack Boris’s brain open with his uncontrollable impulses!

"So you’re saying that the woman was our King’s?" Sasha pressed, looking determined to not to let Boris’s slip of the tongue go unfinished. She could sense that there was more to it that they should know. She hated the fact that the Princess of Moon Clan was getting a fair treatment after what that bi*tch did to her! She was still in the healing process from the wounds the Bloody-Eyed Hunter inflicted on her!

Nathan let out a sigh. With his hand being forced, he finished the words Boris left hanging by saying, "Raine is my mate... I already marked her, so there’s no way I’m letting her go back to Marcus."

"What!?" Sasha burst in disbelief, the room erupting with a cacophony of noises and various opinions. She was preparing hard for the selection of a Luna and here the King was announcing how he marked the daughter of their worst enemy?!

’Does that even make sense?!’ Sasha inwardly grunted with clenched jaw and flaring nostrils. She would definitely not let it slide.

"We should do the exchange v=because that’s the best option we have right now to make sure that my brother and Crissa will be back her unscathed!!!" Crissa burst.

"My decision is final," Nathan sternly declared. "Raine will not return to Marcus. She could only return to the Moon Clan Territory once I’m already its ruler..."

"Wow..." Danos mocked, drawing out his words as he sarcastically pondered. "How could you be so greedy at such a young age?"

"I will step down from my throne, Danos. As soon as I reclaim my right to the Moon Clan throne, I will renounce my position here at the Convel Society," Nathan calmly addressed the man. "You should rejoice and focus on the Battle for the Throne. Perhaps that’ll be the only way that you’ll be able to wear this crown on your head."

Nathan’s words earned him some chuckles at the expense of Danos inside the room. However, he wasn’t done as he firmly repeated, "My decision is final. I will attack the Moon Clan Territory before the sun rises, kill Marcus, and rescue Elder Lucio and Deca’s children. If any of you are questioning my decision, then the only to disobey it was to challenge me for the Throne..."

Sasha was taken aback at the King’s declaration on abdicating the throne that she was so speechless and was unable to insist on the exchange so she could get rid of the Princess’s presence inside their territory.

At the declaration, Davin, on the other hand, shook his head as one of the bystanders presents, keenly watching the scene unfold from the safety of the sidelines. He had dropped by since he already knew the truth and was about to report his findings to Nathan, but the King was apparently busy convincing his subordinates to let him keep his mate.

’Ah... He really should’ve just run away with her instead. He’s in a very complicated situation,’ Davin mused, sympathizing with how conflicted and distressed his dear uncle must be feeling at the moment. At the end of the day, Nathan had no choice but to kill Marcus. There was no other way... Marcus’s death was the only solution for Nathan to have a future with his mate.
