Chapter 213: The Undead
Mia never felt so nervous in her entire life as she did when the werewolf escorted her to a closed room. He left her alone once she was inside the room, and all she could do was take deep breaths knowing she might end up dead as soon as she relayed King Marcus’s message.
She bit her nails as she waited patiently. "Damn... I haven’t even experienced much in life to die this early," she bitterly muttered. She wondered how Levi would react once he found out that she had left and delivered herself to her death... Would he be worried?
Ah, though nothing was set in stone, the possibility of her making out of this situation alive was not that high. Especially since she was in the Convel Society Territory.
She and Levi had parted ways past midnight. She felt blissful and giddy as she went to bed that night. It was almost unreal that she and Levi had such a deep understanding of each other and their relationship. She slept with a smile on her face, dreaming of the good things she and Levi would experience despite the unfortunate events happening around them. But as lucky as she felt, the King just killed her joyous moment ordering for her presence to give her this task. It was no wonder he prepared a feast for her breakfast that morning. It was just like fattening up the sheep before sacrifice. Unfortunately, Mia turned out to be the sheep sent to her death.
"How considerate of him!" she annoyingly breathed, dropping her shoulders.
Mia still could not fathom why the King would send her out of all people in the Clan for such a deadly task? Wasn’t she very useful to the Clan? As far as she knew, she was the best when it comes to hacking and computers, so why her? She was a great asset and everyone knew how much the King treasured great assets such as her!
Another frustrated sigh came out when Mia heard the door open. Her heart almost stopped beating in anxiety. ’I’m not ready to die yet...’ she thought as she tried to calm herself. ’Oh Lord, please, let me live more...’
Her eyes were gleaming with tears and she was about to close them when she saw who the person was. With eyes as big as saucers she murmured, "Tyrone? What are you doing here?"
He did not respond as she continued to stare at him in disbelief. As Tyrone, along with two other men approached her, Mia finally noticed the crown on Tyrone’s head. She didn’t need much time to realize that he was obviously the king. "What the hell?! You’re the King!?" she burst next. He gave her a faint smile as he sat opposite her.
Mia was so utterly dumbfounded that her mouth didn’t close due to shock.
"I am called Nathan Yue, Mia. So please address me as Nathan. There is no Tyrone anymore so forget about him. Bury Tyrone’s existence from your mind the moment you get out of this room. Whether you believe it or not, I’m here to keep you safe, Mia. Erasing Tyrone is the only way I can keep all of you safe... I’m sure you’re already aware of how eager my people are to tear apart anyone from the Moon Clan so please do as I say. I can assure you that no one will touch you under my protection. Also, Raine and Lyne are under my protection too. Rest assured, both of them are safe and I intend to keep it that way. Judging by how Marcus sent you here, I believe he already knew about me," Nathan said all this with a sigh.
Just one look at Mia’s face told him that she had a lot of questions for him which he knew he had to answer. That’s why he did not waste any time and started telling her about the Voyager’s Watch. Letting her know about its existence was one way to prove his words. He cut to the chase and told all the necessary things Mia needed to know. Fortunately, Mia listened to him without interrupting, though disbelief was plastered all over her face.
After Nathan explained everything, there was a long stretch of silence in the room. Mia exhaled loudly and said, "King Marcus was not open for peace talk and would wipe out Convel Society as long as he has a breath left in him. He is willing to be lenient and agree to negotiate just this once... King Marcus wants his daughter back tomorrow morning. He wanted an exchange of hostages tomorrow. He has given you time until nine in the morning, if you fail to deliver the Princess and Lyne... then he will kill the hostages without hesitation."
"Isn’t he afraid that we will do the same to his daughter?" Aspen questioned.
Mia bit her lower lip as she stutteringly whispered, "Anyone who kills his daughter will be cursed..." She gulped as goosebumps crawled on her skin...
She looked straight at Tyrone and continued, "The Boss... I mean our Princess has angel’s blood..."
"Angel’s blood?! You mean from the Fallen Angels?!" Decan burst in disbelief. He had already heard how fallen angels covet human women giving birth to offspring. But it was very rare...
’So that is Raine’s kind?’ Nathan thought. No wonder Raine was more capable than a mere normal human being.
"Please, just do as our King says because he is hell-bent on wiping out all the people of your kind off the face of the earth who are threats to all humanity. Trust me when I say that he wouldn’t bat an eye while killing those innocent kids!" Mia tried convincing them.
Decan cursed Marcus as his fist landed on the wall, making Mia flinch in fear. Nathan closed his eyes... His knuckles turned white as he clenched his hand.
"And as you said he might already know your identity. He apparently had his eyes on Moon Clan even when he was in a coma so I believe it will be hard to beat him now... He has..."
Mia wanted to tell Nathan more but stopped and at the two men who were with Nathan in hesitation.
"It’s all right Mia. They are on my side so you can trust them," Nathan reassured.
She nodded and prepared to tell what she knew. She had accidentally overheard King Marcus’s conversation with Janus when she went to meet him the day she received this task.
"He has an army that could wipe your existence... Remember those humans with chips in their brains? It’s not only Yun but also the King behind it. I accidentally heard him talking to Janus about it... I think they are conducting some experiments on those humans. King Marcus has ’the undead’ as he called it in his army. All these years, he was preparing something big against Convel Society while in a coma. I’m just not sure of the complete details yet but I think I can hack their system and know more if I ever got out here alive..." Mia informed.
"Why is he so dead-set on attacking us werewolves out of all the mutants?!" Aspen found himself commenting. Ever since he was a boy... he knew Marcus was a sworn nemesis to werewolves.
"There’s a history behind it... I heard Marcus lost his true love because of a werewolf and since then he despised all werewolves. So much so that he would stop at nothing while hunting for werewolves," Decan commented. He recalled the delirious look Marcus’ eyes had when he mocked the peace treaty that Decan was offering between two organizations during their last encounter.
"That’s Princess Ava... Our Princess’s mother. I heard about how King Marcus had gone haywire when he lost Princess Ava but no one knew the whole story. All we know is that she died giving birth to our Boss... Oh... I think Princess Ester, the King’s sister, knows about it but for some reason kept her lips sealed," Mia commented, trying to put all the puzzles together. Princess Ester always stayed in her compound peacefully pretending she did not exist. Her Boss had said that it was the only way she and her followers could stay alive in the Moon Clan.
"There’s a possibility that a werewolf killed Princess Ava, right?" Aspen voiced his opinion. For some reason, he had the urge to find the root cause of all this.
"Or maybe that werewolf snatched Ava away from him?" Decan commented.
"Raine is not interested in finding the truth. Her past never mattered to her. She grew up looking up to Marcus as her father despite the fact that he was not her real father... She and Mara were twins. She already knew about it but she did not get involved with her twin thinking that she could keep her twin away from the chaos around her," Nathan stated with dropped shoulders.
This was news to Mia as she was hearing it for the first time... She almost forgot about that woman Mara. Boss probably took a DNA test and got the result without informing them because they got busy with a lot of things.
"What are you going to do now? I suggest you let Boss go because King Marcus was very serious when he passed these messages to me..."
"I have to discuss this with Raine before doing anything. For now, I will have you escorted back safely," Nathan said before he stood up.
He looked at Aspen and said, "Make sure to send her back safely. I’m going to see Raine now..."
