Chapter 211: A messenger

Nathan had already wrapped up his discussions with his confidants inside the secret room. Soon enough, everyone of them left one by one till he and Davin were the only ones left inside.

"You should send her back along with the rest," Davin suggested. "You do know that’s the only way we can get those kids back from Marcus in time." Based on his tone, it was clear that he disagreed with how Nathan was handling the situation in a way to keep Raine with him.

Hearing the suggestion, Nathan’s face darkened as he simply and firmly stated, "I will not let her go back to him."

Davin crossed his arms together as he looked at Nathan with a frown. "Did you even ask her what she wants to do? Have you even told her the truth yet on how her father’s currently holding two innocent children captive as bargaining tools to negotiate for her life and release?"

As Nathan refused to comment, so did the frown on Davin’s forehead deepened as he wryly scorned, "Then I suppose you’re willing to sacrifice everything just for her, regardless of how many innocent lives would be involved." He scoffed, "Now, I truly believe you when you said that ruling isn’t for you..."

"It’s always easy for you to judge and say these things since you haven’t experienced what I’ve been going through right now..." Nathan trailed off with a whisper.

While he knew that his decisions might not have been for the best, he was still a hundred percent sure that they were all aligned with what his heart desired. Like he said, the throne, and everything that he currently had all amounted to nothing if he wouldn’t be able to save the one thing that was most important in his life.

"I guess it’s a good thing that my heart’s no longer beating then. After all, I wouldn’t want to experience this so-called chaos that you’re going through right now," Davin scoffed as he continued. "Don’t act on impulse. At the very least, keep your rationality intact, Nathan. Don’t sacrifice so many innocent lives just for the sake of one person..."

With his words, Davin tried to reason with the irrational king. However, he felt as if he was facing a completely different person from what he knew of the man. No longer was he the Nathan that he once knew; the Nathan who had been burning in anger and fury in a bid to kill Marcus and all his followers, all of the people responsible for his family’s death. Now, he saw a man hopelessly in love that he couldn’t think of anything except keeping and protecting the woman that he loved.

"You’re hopeless..." Davin shrugged. "You’re better off abdicating the throne today and just fleeing with your woman for the rest of your life. That’s honestly the best thing you can do right now since you also seem unwilling to kill Marcus and end this mess. Why? Just so you wouldn’t hurt that woman and see her cry?" he mocked.

Tuning him out, Nathan closed his eyes. He knew that Davin was right, but his mind had already tuned out everything except for making Raine stay by his side safe and sound.

"I’ll tell her everything about her father later, so will you stop nagging me already?" Nathan sighed. "I have to go. I still have a meeting with the Elders to attend to... As for the others..." he trailed off, weakly whispering out his answer as he got up from his seat. "I’ll think of something..."

Avoiding the burning question, Nathan quickly walked out of the secret room with heavy footsteps. Killing Marcus... He was well aware that it was an inevitability should Marcus refuse to accept brokering peace between their two organizations. However, what worried him the most was the potential of him hurting Raine’s feelings. Would she still accept him if he resorted to ending the life of the man she considered as her real father? Would he still have a place in her heart if he had no choice in the matter to maintain peace and order on both parties?

Back in the secret room, Davin frustratingly sighed as he shook his head, his gaze watching Nathan’s back as the man walked out of the room. "Good luck with that," Davin called out before walking towards a different exit, one leading to another secret passage going in and out of the Convel Society Territory. Leading directly to Nathan’s private residence inside the Blue Moon Pack compound, Davin shrugged before completely leaving the room. He still had a lot of things to do, after all... like searching for Raine’s true origins and killing her father, Marcus.

Meanwhile, Nathan headed back to the meeting room at the King’s Residence. Looking around, the renovations were already going in full swing after the complete destruction of the King’s Main Hall as well as other areas affected by the fighting from last night. Letting out a sigh, he walked passed through the construction efforts and headed to the meeting room. Already, he could hear the loud commotion going on inside the room from a distance, seeing as the door wasn’t closed enough to prevent sound from escaping the room.

Finally reaching the door, Aspen was already outside, waiting for his arrival.

"Everyone’s here, including Sasha and the rest of those who have injuries from last night," Aspen reported. "It... It doesn’t look good. Everyone’s angry..."

Despite hearing the man’s report, Nathan still calmly looked at him with a faint smile. With a nod, Aspen opened the door for him. Immediately, a sudden silence spread all throughout as he entered the room.

As soon as Nathan took his seat, Sasha spoke first. Her vitriol was palpable as she barked out, "Why are the captives being treated nicely, King Nathan? They should be staying in the dungeon! We don’t even know if my brother and Crissa are being treated well by the enemy!"

Nathan kept his expressionless face intact. He was about to speak when one of his men rushed inside.

"Pardon the intrusion! There’s a messenger outside... from the Moon Clan Territory!" the beta announced with a pant. "Seeking an audience with the King."

Hearing the report, Nathan had honestly already expected such a thing to happen. As such, he instructed, "Let him in. I will talk to him."

"She’s a woman..." the beta corrected.

"Let that woman in!" Danos grunted. "Let’s hear what their King wants before I personally tear that lady into pieces! And I will personally throw her head in the Moon Clan Territory!"

Pureblood werewolves were brutal in nature, especially when attacked first out of the blue. Already, Nathan could feel the boiling tension and anger the majority of the people inside the room had for the enemy. Looking at Aspen, he nodded, the latter quickly approaching him for instructions.

"I need to see her first... CCTV footage will do," Nathan whispered out, to which Aspen acquiesced as he quickly accessed the camera footage outside on his iPAD and gave it to Nathan. Grabbing the device, the King scanned the footage. He needed to make sure that it was someone who wouldn’t recognize him as Tyrone.

Quickly looking at the people before him, Nathan decided, "I’ll talk to this woman personally. I can sense all of your emotions right now, and acting on pure impulse and anger wouldn’t solve anything. Let me handle this for now. Only Decan will be allowed to come with me since this will involve his daughter."

"I’ll stay too!" Sasha demanded. "Father isn’t here, but I can act as his proxy!"

However, Nathan shook his head. With a firm authority in his voice, he said, "No. Only Decan will come with me and meet the messenger."

Sasha could do nothing as she remained in her seat while watching King Nathan leave with Aspen and Elder Decan.

"This is unacceptable!" Danos grunted. He looked at Sasha and scoffed, "I’m sure you also heard how the King is treating the Princess of Moon Clan. She’s at the Blue Moon Pack compound, staying at the King’s private residence there..."

"Cut the crap out, old man and get straight to the point!" Sasha hissed.

Danos’s facial muscles flinched. He clenched his jaw but kept himself calm as he replied, "It seems that he took a fancy on the Princess since she’s undeniably a beauty that I myself would hesitate killing her."

Danos knew how Sasha adored the new King and was preparing hard for the selection for a Luna since a King was not allowed to remain on the throne without a Luna after a year or else he would be dethroned... That was one of the significant conditions Convel Society had for its ruler.

Sasha’s eyebrow raised. She, too, noticed the dangerous beauty the Moon Clan Princess possessed. Danos had a point and she wanted a threat out her way.

"We should get rid of her. Help me and you can have the bi*tch as you please. It’s a win-win situation," Sasha murmured with gritted teeth.

"It will be my honor to hold hands with you," Danos whispered back with a smirk.
