Chapter 209: It’s not your fault

Raine let out a sigh as she watched Tyrone leave the room, staring blankly in the direction that he went to.

"How come my hunch is never wrong?" she wondered with pressed lips.

For some reason, she had this strong feeling that Tyrone was actually Nathan right from the start. Even so, she still tried her best to ignore the signs or to just deny the fact outright by telling herself that he wasn’t Nathan, but simply Tyrone. Why? Maybe it was because she knew that things would be less complicated if he wasn’t Nathan at all? After all, Tyrone being Nathan meant only one thing, and that was she had to choose between him and her father.

Raine closed her eyes, her lips pressed together as her forehead wrinkled up. "What will you do now, Raine?" she frustratingly whispered.

She massaged her temples in frustration. Of course, she truly believed Nathan and everything that he just said. She had felt the genuine emotion coming off of him while he was talking with her, and at this point, things were getting so complicated that she just didn’t know what to do anymore. Not to mention, how her body had felt off ever since she got marked by a werewolf. A part of her knew that her body was still adjusting to the new addition. And while it was a pain, she understood why Tyrone had marked her in a hurry. He had thought that it would be best for her own safety, after all.

At that thought, something felt stuffy inside her chest. But she couldn’t linger on the feeling as someone knocked on the door.

"Who is it?" Raine asked.

"I’m Sanya, Nathan’s Aunty," a woman’s voice replied. "I brought you food. Can I come in?"

"Yes, please," Raine answered.

As the door opened, a woman who was probably around her fifties entered the room, followed by a man who was pulling a trolley of food behind her. The woman instructed the man to prepare the table before looking at Raine with a warm smile.

Knowingly, Raine smiled back. Nathan had already assured her that no one from the Blue Moon Pack would dare harm her. In fact, he only let his men guard her’s and Lyne and Boris’s rooms just to make sure that Danos won’t have any ideas. After all, the fierce werewolf would definitely not let things simply slide off easily, especially since they’ve killed three of his allied Elders.

After everything was properly set up, Sanya dismissed the servant before then sitting on the side of the bed.

"You can call me Aunt Sanya. I am Nisha’s second sister," the woman properly introduced herself.

Showing decorum, Raine bashfully bowed her in respect before then extending her hand for a handshake. However, Sanya simply pulled her in for a warm embrace. It was unexpected. Raine had never felt a hug so warm before in her life...

’Was this the same as a mother’s hug?’ she thought. She had heard that there was no other comfort in this world better than a mother’s warm embrace, and this was certainly feeling like it was close enough.

"You and Nathan have been through a lot, and I know how much my nephew cared for you," Sanya whispered as she gingerly stroked Raine’s hair. "For him to risk everything just to ensure your safety... It shows her dedication to you."

Raine couldn’t say a word as she bit his inner cheek, trying her hardest to suppress the tears from falling off her eyes. Somehow, earlier, she managed to stop herself from crying while she was with Nathan. But now, she couldn’t resist the overwhelming urge to do so. Her tears unconsciously rolled down her cheeks, her efforts in vain as she broke down.

"Everything will be fine," the woman comforted. "Nathan is a very good and capable man. I’m sure he’ll resolve this mess, so you don’t need to worry."

Raine couldn’t help but feel guilty at how good Nisha’s sister was treating her at the moment. Despite the fact that she was responsible for why Nathan’s mother, Nisha, was dead in the first place...

It was too much...

"I am so sorry..." Raine sobbed out. "I..."

Raine trailed off, unable to continue her words out of sheer guilt. In response, Sanya gently pushed her off to break free from the hug and looked at her closely. She then flashed the kindest smile Raine had ever seen.

Gently wiping off the tears from Raine’s cheeks, Sanya let out a sigh and whispered, "It’s not your fault, dear. You and Nathan... Both of you are just the victims of bad circumstances. None of you deserve to suffer because of the past."

At Sanya’s words, Raine cried hard, something that she had never done before in front of others. She didn’t know how long they stayed like that, with Nathan’s Aunty just comforting her as she cried her heart out. By the time Raine finally got her composure back, she looked at Sanya with an apologetic smile.

"Come and let’s fill your stomach with food now. I’m sure you’re already starving since it’s already time for breakfast," Sanya smiled at her. "Nathan will take a while with his meetings, so he asked me to accompany you in the meantime. I hope you won’t mind if I eat lunch with you?"

Hearing her, Raine gave her the sweetest smile she could muster as she answered, "Of course not. I’m really happy that you’re here with me."

"I’m sure you want to see your friends, but I’m also certain that Nathan had already explained to you why it’s wise not to see each other yet," Sanya chuckled. "Anyway, my nephew will ensure their safety, so you don’t need to worry."

Taking her assurances to heart, Raine simply nodded. Nathan had explained to her that there were eyes and ears everywhere, so it would still be best that she still acted as if she was under house arrest. He wanted her to act according to his plans, and Raine didn’t see any problems with such an arrangement. She trusted him, so she would simply do whatever he asked her to.

Having breakfast with Sanya, Raine got to find out more about Nathan while growing up. They had a good conversation, and she really appreciated just how supportive Sanya was of her and her wellbeing.

"My son, Aspen, is just a year younger than Nathan, and he’s already assisting him rather well," Sanya mused. "I also have two daughters, and I’m sure those two will visit you soon. They’ll be curious to meet and see you... And I suppose I’ll apologize in advance in case they try to bother you without prior notice."

Raine waved off the woman’s apology with a chuckle and said, "I really don’t mind..."

Sanya then spent a few more minutes talking to Raine after they ate breakfast. "I’ve also brought you new sets of clothes, along with all of your things from last night..." she sweetly smiled. "Just ask the men outside to call for me if you need anything. I’ll be leaving you on your own for now so you can rest more..."

"Thank you so much," Raine whispered with a grateful smile.

Watching Sanya leave, Raine then stood from her chair to gather her things; her clothes, her things, all of them. Looking at the pouch, Raine shook her head at what she saw. Inside, the bottle of memory-loss powder for mutants still remained. Grabbing it, she stared at it blankly, noting that it was somehow still intact despite everything that it had been through.

"I wonder if I’ll still need this thing somehow..." she sighed as she absently stared at the bottle.

She then immediately brushed off the thought. She already believed in Nathan and the plan that he was finalizing for her to use such a thing. She was sure that he would make things work out somehow.

However, she suddenly bit her lower lip, her mind wandering at how things currently were on the Moon Clan’s side. Nathan already told her that Levi and everyone else had managed to safely escape. Still, she couldn’t help but wonder how Mia and Levi were doing at the moment with the rest of her Moonlight Squad.

Another heavy sigh escaped her lips... She had almost forgotten...

Raine just remembered that her father was supposed to wake up soon. She closed her eyes in worry... It was another major problem that had yet to be addressed.

"I have to talk to Nathan about this," she whispered to herself. She also needed to send words to Levi and Mia, and he was the only one who could currently do that-

"Ouch!" Raine suddenly winced as a stinging pain grew between her neck and shoulder. Turning to look at it, her forehead creased as she whispered, "How come it’s glowing?"

Of course, the thing glowing was Nathan’s mark on her. Raine wondered if it was because her body was still adjusting, or if it was something else entirely that was causing the strange reaction?

"Oh well..."

Ignoring the mystery for later, she brushed her teeth and went back to bed as she suddenly felt lethargic. It was as if she had rapidly lost some of her energy for some reason.

"I should probably rest for a bit," she whispered to herself as she crawled underneath her sheets. Soon enough, she eventually dozed off to sleep.
