Chapter 889: Chapter 886: Remembering the Past
"What is the success rate of the surgery?" Ye Ranran asked, her heart pounding with trepidation.
"Thirty percent."
Ye Ranran felt as if she had been stabbed, a dense thicket of pain surged up within her.
"Is there any chance it could be higher? I mean, if we get the best doctor..." Not even a fifty percent chance, it was really too low.
She was afraid that once Song Ze entered that operating room, he might never come out again.
"This is already the best-case scenario. For ordinary people, it’s less than fifteen percent. I know you’re not ordinary, Madam. With your capabilities, naturally you can obtain the best," said the doctor, extinguishing the last bit of hope Ye Ranran had.
"If you’re afraid of the risks, you don’t have to proceed with the surgery. After all, his condition can last for quite a while." As long as he has regular check-ups and no other major issues, his nerves won’t atrophy too quickly, she didn’t need to worry too much.
Ye Ranran gazed at Song Ze, who sat quietly outside in the chair, his brows like mountain silhouettes, his gaze cold and clean like a stream in a mountain ravine, devoid of the usual severity. His pink, thin lips were beautifully colored, and his finely chiseled features seemed like God’s most outstanding work.
Every part of him exuded refinement.
Seeing Ye Ranran looking at him, Song Ze’s face broke into a broad smile, adding a touch of worldly dust to his ethereal temperament in an instant.
How could she let such a Song Ze live in ignorance for the rest of his life?
Wouldn’t he come to despise her should he one day regain his senses?
Ye Ranran clenched her fists, her cheeks taut, and after a while she managed to squeeze out a sentence, "When can we schedule the surgery?"
"We need to discuss this with the specialists on the other side. At the earliest, I think it could be in half a month," the doctor said tentatively, seeing the troubled expression on Ye Ranran’s face.
He couldn’t afford to offend a lady of such a distinguished household; one misstep could mean no return.
"Contact me when the time comes," Ye Ranran said as she stood up.
She slowly walked over to Song Ze, who was now looking down, fiddling with the bracelet she had given him.
The silver bracelet on his wrist reflected a light so bright it almost dazzled Ye Ranran.
She crouched in front of him, wanting to say something but unsure how to begin.
How could she say it so he would understand? How could she explain it so he would comprehend?
"Are you afraid of dying, Ah Ze?" After much hesitation, Ye Ranran blurted out just that.
She thought, if he was afraid, she wouldn’t let him go through with it. They could just stay as they were, and she would take care of him for life.
Even if it wasn’t fair to him.
"Protect Sister? Not afraid," Song Ze replied unexpectedly.
"Would you still say the same if you remembered the past, Ah Ze?" If he recalled the past, knew her significance to him, would he still speak so?
"The past? What past?"
Ye Ranran laughed; she was asking too much. How could he, in his oblivious state, understand her complex emotions?
"It’s nothing. Sister is just playing with you. Let’s go home."
"Okay, let’s go home," Song Ze said, jumping up happily.
When they returned to the Jun family residence, Ye Ranran was surprised to find that Jun Mochan was also there.
"How did you get back so soon?" Ye Ranran ran over, nestling into Jun Mochan’s embrace very naturally and adeptly, as if she had done it thousands of times before.
In fact, she seldom made such advances.
"I thought you might be coming back, so after handling company matters, I returned to have a meal," Jun Mochan said, placing his hand on her waist and gently squeezing.
