Chapter 1243: Chapter 1166: Huo’s Mother’s Selfishness
"Mom, what’s wrong?" Huo Yi’s puzzled gaze met his mother’s.
She used to like Ye Ranran quite a bit before, didn’t she? Why had she reverted to her initial attitude?
"I’m just afraid she’ll pass her sickness on to the baby," Mrs. Huo hurriedly explained, her eyes full of restrained emotion.
How could she not feel for Ye Ranran? It’s just that she loved the child even more.
That child is the entire Jun family’s hope, the future crown prince of the Jun family.
She didn’t know whether Ye Ranran would make it through this ordeal, and even if she did, her body might not be suited for another pregnancy.
Jun Mochan wouldn’t marry someone else either; otherwise, he wouldn’t have waited for Ye Ranran for so long.
She was a mother before she was a mother-in-law, so she always considered things for Jun Mochan first, then for Ye Ranran.
"What are you talking about? Isn’t that an exaggeration?" Huo Yi expressed his dissatisfaction with his mother’s overreaction.
"What do you know? Don’t talk nonsense if you don’t understand." Huo Yi had just returned today, so naturally, he was unaware of what had happened in recent days.
There was a rift between the two brothers, and Jun Mochan wouldn’t tell him either.
"Mom is right. I am sick," Ye Ranran handed the child to Mrs. Huo, "You should take care of the baby."
There was reluctance in her eyes, her hands twisted the hem of her garment, yet she forced herself not to look back.
"I shouldn’t stay out too long. I need to go back now," Ye Ranran walked outside.
"Let me walk you out," Huo Yi followed her.
"No need, I can manage on my own."
Huo Yi insisted and followed her. Mrs. Huo watched their silhouettes against the sunlight—elongated, entwined at the end like vines, like life itself.
Mrs. Huo held the child tight, as if clutching the last straw that could save her.
Ye Ranran didn’t look back. The footsteps behind her were steady and strong. She pretended not to hear and got straight into the car.
"Why not have the driver take you?" Huo Yi frowned.
Hadn’t she been in a car accident? Was there no psychological trauma?
"I was in a hurry when I left, so I drove myself. I’m leaving now." Ye Ranran started the car.
She had arrived at a little past one and had been there for less than an hour; she still had time to visit the company.
Huo Yi stood at the doorway, watching her leave, then turned and nearly collided with someone.
Wen Liangshan had appeared silently before him at some point.
This woman had been shadowing him lately, yet she hadn’t made a move. Huo Yi was unclear about her intentions and essentially ignored her.
"Your beloved seems to be in poor shape," Wen Liangshan said, watching the direction in which Ye Ranran had disappeared.
Huo Yi didn’t plan to engage with her.
Wen Liangshan watched his retreating form and scoffed. She had thought about informing him that Jun Mochan had moved on and that Ye Ranran was in a dangerous situation, but now, it seemed unnecessary.
Well, it’s not like he would appreciate it anyway.
When Ye Ranran arrived at the company, everyone looked at her as if petrified, motionless in their stares.
"What’s the matter? Don’t you recognize me?" she chuckled.
"Ran... Sister Ran?" Zhao Xiao stammered.
"Yeah, why so surprised?" Ye Ranran sat down beside her.
"This... it’s been so long since we saw you, we were wondering where you’d been."
Watching Ye Ranran’s pale complexion, Zhao Xiao and the two people beside her exchanged a knowing glance.
"I was recovering from an illness. What else could I have been doing?" Ye Ranran remarked nonchalantly.
"That’s true, silly me," Zhao Xiao slapped her forehead and took out a design draft. "I have some doubts about this, and since you’ve been away for so long, I had no one to ask."
