Chapter 1226: Chapter 1149: Never Had Affection
Her demeanor made Ye Ranran think of Luo Qi, not knowing how she was doing; it had been a while since she last made contact.
"What are you thinking about?" Fan Rou waved her hand in front of her eyes.
"I was thinking of a friend."
Fan Rou, however, misunderstood and her smile slightly faded, "I heard about Song Ze, and I’m very sorry."
"Why are you apologizing to me out of the blue?" Ye Ranran couldn’t help but laugh, "Indeed, I am very sad, but things aren’t as you all imagine."
Anyone with even a hint of compassion would find it hard to remain indifferent when someone loses their life because of oneself.
Besides, she had always regarded Song Ze as a younger brother, as family. Her distancing from him wasn’t out of dislike, but out of fear that he would be suspected and doubted because of her.
She truly didn’t wish for his death, and it wasn’t like what they thought, involving a romantic relationship.
"Actually, every time I came to your place, I would always see him. He would stand on the road outside the door and would ask about your situation after seeing me. Knowing you were fine, he would leave." Each time, he didn’t stay long; he would just leave after hearing the news.
It was as if he had never cared at all.
Such a person, she could not understand.
"That last time, did he say anything to you?" Ye Ranran asked softly, her voice calm, devoid of excessive emotion, a stark contrast to the person who wept sadly that day.
"He said if you asked one day about his last wishes, he only hoped you would remember him, never to forget him."
Forget him? How could she possibly forget him looking like that?
"Was there nothing else?"
"He also mentioned there’s no next life and stuff like that, not to talk about a next life, as it is too illusory. Moreover, in this entanglement, there was no right or wrong. If living in this world really came down to winning or losing, then dying wouldn’t be so bad either." Fan Rou slowly recollected, repeating Song Ze’s words verbatim.
"That’s it, there’s no more." Fan Rou looked at her cautiously, "Telling you this, please don’t be too upset."
Jun Mochan had asked her to come primarily to keep her company and cheer her up, not to make her cry.
"I won’t be, it was his choice to die, what’s there for me to be upset about?"
If she wasn’t upset, then why was she so sad? Fan Rou saw the mist in her eyes but didn’t expose her.
Fan Rou stayed with Ye Ranran for the afternoon and then left.
When Jun Mochan returned to the room, he heard a melody of children’s music, for a moment, he doubted if he had entered the wrong room.
"Why are you listening to this kind of music?" Jun Mochan asked, taking off his clothes as he walked in.
"I’m learning it to sing to our son in the future, don’t you need to sing songs to get babies to sleep, as they show on TV?" Ye Ranran said, watching the video, learning very earnestly.
"Our son doesn’t need those," smiled Jun Mochan.
"You’ve never sung before, how do you know he won’t like it?" Ye Ranran continued her determined effort to learn.
Seeing her enthusiasm, Jun Mochan didn’t want to dampen her spirit, so he let her be.
And like that, half a month passed.
On the day she was finally able to walk around, Ye Ranran woke up and went straight to the nursery.
She was very thin, with scarcely any breast milk; the baby mostly drank formula, and soon it would be time to start solid foods.
During the postpartum recovery, she drank plenty of pig’s trotters soup and chicken broth to nourish her body, as well as soy milk and other lactation aids, but to little effect.
In fact, she was getting even thinner.
When Jun Mochan awoke and didn’t see Ye Ranran, he hurried downstairs in a panic, searching everywhere until it occurred to him to check the nursery. He rushed there.
