Lin Yan followed behind her, his tone innocent, "I did knock, you just didn’t hear it."

Really? Had he knocked? Luo Qi tried hard to remember and realized that she never heard it, which was indeed strange.

"I have a surgery tonight and won’t be back for dinner," Lin Yan said as he sat beside Luo Qi.

Luo Qi’s hand, holding a sandwich, paused, "What time does it start? Will it be very late?"

"Seven o’clock, and it will probably end around ten. It’s a rather important surgery." There wasn’t enough time for back-and-forth; he would have to make do with whatever was available at the hospital.

Moreover, he had a minor surgery in the afternoon. After completing it, he would have to rest for a couple of hours before going into battle again.

"I also have to stop by the TV station tonight. How about we leave together after work, and if I finish early, I’ll go there; if you finish early, you can come to pick me up." The TV station was not too far from Lin Yan’s hospital.

It was a fifteen-minute drive, and the evening program would last a little over an hour. It started at eight and would also end around ten.

"Okay, if you’re scared, just sit there, and I’ll come to pick you up," Lin Yan said in a gentle voice, like a warm breeze, caressing her heart, warming it without her noticing.

Luo Qi was touched, but she didn’t want to show it in front of him, so she gave him a look, "Would I be scared?"

"Of course not, it’s me who is scared."

It was always like this; he always indulged her with a good temper, which meant they never really got into a fight.

If it had been Ah Chuan, he would have put on a stern face and outright ignored her.

Thinking back on those days, Luo Qi still felt a bit saddened. Why did she think Ah Chuan liked her?

He clearly didn’t care about her.

She had always thought he was simply not tender, yet she didn’t realize that it wasn’t that he didn’t understand how; she just wasn’t someone he deemed worthy of such tenderness.

"What are you thinking about?" Seeing her space out, Lin Yan gently tapped her on the head.

"My sister is always like this, natural airhead," Luo Xuan teased her.

Could that term still be applied to her? Luo Qi sized herself up. Blue blouse, pencil skirt, pointed high heels, a chic and capable style—it didn’t associate with the term "airhead" at all.

"Exactly, that’s why I’m always worried she might get scooped up by someone," Lin Yan nodded in agreement.

As the two bickered, Luo Qi felt slightly helpless. She was about to roll her eyes at them again when the doorbell rang.

"Who could it be so early in the morning?" Luo Xuan went to open the door.

Upon seeing the person outside, she subconsciously tried to close the door, but Ah Chuan was quick to prop it open, slipping inside.

When he saw the three inside, he felt like a spare wheel.

They looked like a family sitting together having breakfast, while he seemed like an intruder.

"How come you’re here?" Luo Qi was surprised.

It had been days since she saw him; although the flowers were still delivered daily, she had been passing them on to other people.

He had been out of sight for three or four days.

He had called her out of the blue last night, saying they were going to the TV station together today, but wasn’t that an evening affair?

"Aren’t you supposed to attend a wedding today? The groom just happens to be a friend of mine; I came to take you there," Ah Chuan said stiffly.

Seeing this scenario was enough to dampen his spirits.

"Isn’t that in the afternoon?" Luo Qi pointed at the wall clock, "It’s only eight in the morning now; did you get the time mixed up?"

"No worries, I’ve cleared my schedule today to accompany you," Ah Chuan said, his gaze fixed on her.

His overly intense stare caused Lin Yan to frown, "Excuse me, she’s my girlfriend now, I’ll take care of her."
