Chapter 1106: Chapter 1129: A Blessed One
The post was out, and everyone knew, she intended to call off the marriage, and that would offend the entire clan.
The Gu Family, though not based in City B, had still earned many laurels and would be the first to suppress any actions Song Yue might dare take.
When the Jun and Gu families joined forces, and the Song Family had no real power, it would be the end of them.
"How very well," Ye Ranran sighed.
Song Yue was blessed; that man loved her so dearly that once she married him, he would certainly not let her suffer in the slightest.
Some people are just lucky.
"Now, why the sigh? If you don’t like it, I’ll think of something else," he said.
What Jun Mochan couldn’t bear the most was her being troubled; if she didn’t like it, he’d find another way.
He always wanted her to be happy.
"If it were anyone else, I would never agree and would see to it that Song Yue ended up with a miserable fate, but that person saved you. No matter how reluctant I am, I must repay this favor."
She wasn’t oblivious to the bigger picture, naturally knowing what was best. The other party had agreed to take the blame, surely because he believed Jun Mochan owed him, compelling him to stay his hand.
But if Jun Mochan were unwilling, that would have truly chilled her heart.
How could anyone dare to become close to him again if he could turn so ruthlessly against a friend from his past?
"Let’s leave it at that, then. I’m fine, and if this could end Song Yue’s thoughts, nothing could be better. If she keeps up her nonsense, then we’ll find another solution."
"Don’t think I’m against this; I mean it sincerely."
Laughter came from the other end: "Quite the hurry to explain, so concerned about my misunderstanding?"
Knowing full well he couldn’t see her, Ye Ranran still blushed deeply: "It’s nothing; I’m hanging up now."
After ending the call, Ye Ranran looked over at Song Ze.
Song Ze looked back at her, his eyes like stars and the sea, both clear and inscrutable.
"Do you understand what I was saying?" she poked his face.
"And would you blame me? But I don’t blame you, do I?"
Her words were somewhat incoherent, and seeing Song Ze’s puzzled expression, Ye Ranran smiled helplessly: "I’m silly, talking about this with you."
Because of the scapegoat, Song Yue was released, and since there was insufficient evidence for further charges, Gu Heng was quickly released as well.
Number Five had also been sprung by Jun Mochan.
After taking some damage, both families were otherwise unharmed.
Jun Mochan had invited Gu Heng out for drinks, and instead of a bar, they sat in a private room with three bottles of liquor on the table.
Gu Heng looked at the bottles and saw they were all strong spirits.
"So long without seeing each other, and this is how you greet me?" Complaining as he spoke, Gu Heng nevertheless poured drinks for himself and Jun Mochan.
Both were men who had been through battlefields, each full of boldness and vigor. In the cold, having a flask of liquor to warm up was perfect.
"Not happy?" Jun Mochan didn’t immediately pick up his glass.
Gu Heng didn’t drink his either, instead slowly swirling it in his hand: "What? You suspect me? Afraid I’ve slipped something into it?"
"It’s nothing; I just don’t indulge in drinking. There’s a fierce wife at home," Jun Mochan said half-jokingly.
Gu Heng looked at him with a smile that wasn’t quite a smile: "If sister-in-law heard that, she’d definitely be furious with you."
"That’s why she must never find out." Jun Mochan drained his glass: "Consider this glass a toast to you. Do as you wish."
Gu Heng raised his glass to him and downed the liquor in one gulp: "Thanks for this time."
