Chapter 58: A soothing kiss

As they entered the emergency room, Remo’s facade of nonchalance began to waver. He winced with each step, the pain from his injured hand becoming increasingly evident. Abby’s heart clenched at the sight, her worry for him intensifying with each passing moment.

The nurse led them to a waiting area, where Remo gingerly settled into a chair, his expression strained. Abby hovered by his side, her concern palpable as she watched him grit his teeth against the pain.

"Are you okay, Remo?" Abby’s voice was soft, laced with genuine concern.

Remo managed a weak smile, though it failed to mask the discomfort etched on his face. "I’ll be fine, Abby. Just a little sore, that’s all."

Abby’s brow furrowed with worry, her eyes scanning his face for any sign of relief. "You don’t have to pretend, Remo. I know it hurts."

Remo’s facade crumbled as he met Abby’s gaze, his eyes betraying the pain he tried so hard to conceal. "It does hurt, Abby. More than I’d like to admit."

Abby’s heart ached at the sight of Remo’s pain, her resolve to take care of him strengthening with each passing moment. "Is there anything I can do to help?"

A mischievous glint sparked in Remo’s eyes, a hint of playfulness amidst the pain. "Actually, there is one thing..."

Abby’s brow furrowed in confusion, unsure of what Remo could possibly need in his current state. "What is it, Remo? I’ll do anything to help."

A grin tugged at the corners of Remo’s lips as he leaned closer to Abby, his voice barely a whisper. "Kiss me. It’ll make me feel better."

Abby’s cheeks flushed crimson as she registered Remo’s request, her mind racing with a flurry of emotions. Despite the seriousness of their situation, she couldn’t help but be captivated by the warmth in Remo’s eyes, the vulnerability he revealed in his moment of pain.

With a hesitant smile, Abby leaned in, pressing her lips gently against Remo’s.

The soft murmur of the emergency room continued around them as Abby pulled back from the tender kiss, her eyes meeting Remo’s with a mixture of gratitude and concern.

Remo’s playful smile lingered, and for a moment, the pain seemed to fade from his eyes. "Thanks, Abby. That actually helped."

Abby couldn’t suppress a chuckle, the tension in the air momentarily lifted. "Well, it’s not the conventional remedy, but if it works..."

Their lighthearted exchange was interrupted as a nurse approached, ready to attend to Remo’s injured hand. "Let’s take a look at that wound. We’ll make sure it’s properly cleaned and bandaged."

Remo nodded, and Abby offered him a reassuring smile as the nurse led him to an examination area. She remained by his side, a silent source of support.

As the nurse carefully tended to Remo’s hand, Abby couldn’t shake the feeling of gratitude and worry intertwined within her. She watched the nurse work with a sense of admiration for those who dedicated their lives to healing others.

Once the wound was cleaned and bandaged, the nurse provided instructions for Remo’s care. "Keep an eye on it, and if there’s any sign of infection or increased pain, don’t hesitate to come back."

Remo assured the nurse that he would, and they were soon on their way out of the emergency room. Abby walked beside him, a thoughtful expression on her face.

"You know," Remo began, breaking the quiet moment, "I wasn’t entirely joking about the kiss making me feel better."

Abby’s cheeks tinged with a soft blush, and she nudged him playfully. "You’re incorrigible, Remo."

He chuckled, wrapping an arm around her shoulders. "But you have to admit, it did work wonders."

As Abby and Remo stepped out of the hospital, the crisp evening air enveloped them, offering a welcome respite from the sterile confines of the emergency room. Remo’s hand was securely bandaged, a tangible reminder of the events that had unfolded earlier.

Their footsteps echoed against the pavement as they made their way to the hospital parking lot, the weight of the day’s events hanging heavy in the air. But as they reached there, they

were greeted by a towering figure, standing sentinel by the car. The man’s sharp gaze softened as he caught sight of Remo, a flicker of concern crossing his features.

"Boss, I’m sorry I wasn’t there to prevent this," the man said, his voice laced with remorse.

Remo shook his head, a reassuring smile gracing his lips. "It’s not your fault, Marco. These things happen."

Marco’s expression remained somber as he addressed Remo. "Tony said I should drive you both home. He’ll take care of everything here and plans to come home tonight."

Abby’s eyes widened in surprise at the mention of Tony’s name. She hadn’t expected him to take such immediate action, but she was grateful for his intervention.

"Thank you, Marco," Abby said, her voice filled with gratitude. "We appreciate it."

Marco nodded, his demeanor professional yet warm. "Of course, Mrs. Quinn. Your safety is our priority."

With Marco’s assurances, Abby felt a weight lift from her shoulders. She knew they were in capable hands, and she was grateful for the support they had received in the face of adversity.

As they followed Marco to the waiting car, Abby couldn’t help but feel a sense of relief wash over her. They were finally heading home, leaving behind the chaos and uncertainty of the hospital.

As the car glided through the city streets, Remo turned to Abby, a playful glint in his eyes.

"So, Abby, what do you feel like having for lunch?" he asked, a smile tugging at the corners of his lips.

Abby pondered for a moment, her stomach growling in anticipation. "Hmm, how about some good old-fashioned junk food?"

Remo chuckled, the sound filling the car with warmth. "Junk food it is then! Any preferences?"

Abby’s eyes lit up with excitement as she contemplated her options. "How about burgers and fries? And maybe some milkshakes too?"

Remo nodded, his grin widening. "Sounds like a plan. Burgers, fries, and milkshakes it is."
