Chapter 57: Assilant
As Abby and Remo exited the hospital room, the corridor buzzed with activity. Nurses hurried by, doctors conferred in hushed tones, and patients were wheeled in and out of rooms. Dr. Mason emerged from his office, a sense of urgency evident in his weary eyes.
"Abby, Remo, the referral to the research center is finalized," Dr. Mason announced, his voice cutting through the chaos. "They’re expecting Mr. Falcone."
Abby felt a surge of relief wash over her as she nodded, grateful for Dr. Mason’s efficiency and dedication. Together, they made their way to the waiting ambulance, where Mr. Falcone lay on a stretcher, surrounded by paramedics.
As Mr. Falcone was gently transferred into the ambulance, Abby leaned in close, whispering words of reassurance and love.
"We will come soon dad, don’t worry everything will be fine." She planted a kiss on her father’s forehead before the paramedics closed the door.
Abby watched the ambulance car drive away. The doctor excused himself, he had patients to take care of.
"We should go." Abby said, turning to Remo. Remo nodded and they made their way to the parking lot.
Suddenly, amidst the bustle, a figure lunged towards Abby, a glint of malice in their eyes. Before Abby could react, Remo sprang into action, blocking the assailant’s path and seizing the knife poised to strike.
Time seemed to stand still as Remo wrestled with the attacker, their struggle illuminated by the harsh glare of the sun. Abby’s heart pounded in her chest as she watched in horror, her breath catching in her throat.
With a swift and decisive movement Remo disarmed the assailant, the knife clattering to the ground. In a blur of motion, Remo turned the tables, wielding the weapon with a steely determination.
The assailant recoiled, their eyes widening in disbelief as Remo’s resolve hardened. In a split second, Remo’s hand moved with lightning speed, the blade finding its way into the assailant’s stomach.
A collective gasp rippled through the crowd as the assailant crumpled to the ground, clutching a wound seeping crimson. Remo stood before Abby, his chest heaving with adrenaline, his eyes ablaze with fierce protectiveness.
Abby stared at Remo, her heart overflowing with a mixture of fear and gratitude. In that moment, she realized the depth of Remo’s devotion, the lengths he would go to shield her from harm.
As the securities rushed to attend to the wounded assailant, Abby turned to Remo, her voice trembling with emotion. "Thank you, Remo. Thank you for saving me."
Remo’s gaze softened, his hand reaching out to gently cup Abby’s face. "I’ll always protect you, Abby. Always."
As the adrenaline of the moment ebbed away, Abby’s trembling hands reached out to grasp Remo’s shoulders, pulling him into a tight embrace. Her heart thudded wildly against her chest as she held him close, a flood of emotions swirling within her.
"Remo, you saved me," she whispered, her voice trembling with awe and gratitude. "I don’t know what I would have done without you."
Remo’s arms enveloped her in a protective embrace, his presence a comforting anchor amidst the chaos. "I’ll always be here for you, Abby. Always."
But as Abby leaned into him, her fingers brushed against something wet and warm. She pulled back, her eyes widening in alarm as she saw the crimson stain spreading across Remo’s hand. Blood dripped from his palm, a stark reminder of the danger he had faced to keep her safe.
"Remo, your hand," Abby gasped, her voice tinged with anguish as she reached out to examine the wound. "You’re hurt."
Remo shrugged off her concern, his gaze unwavering as he met her eyes. "It’s nothing, Abby. Just a scratch."
But Abby could see the pain etched in his features, the strain of their ordeal evident in the lines of his face. Her heart clenched with guilt as she realized the extent of his sacrifice, the lengths he had gone to shield her from harm.
Tears pricked at the corners of Abby’s eyes as she pressed a trembling hand against Remo’s, her touch gentle yet trembling with emotion. "You risked everything for me, Remo. I can’t thank you enough."
Remo’s lips curved into a tender smile, his eyes softening with affection. "I’d do it all over again, Abby. For you."
In that moment, amidst the chaos and uncertainty, Abby knew that she had found a guardian, a protector who would stand by her side through thick and thin. And as they faced the challenges ahead, hand in hand, Abby vowed to cherish every moment, every heartbeat, with the man who had risked everything to keep her safe.
"Remo, we can’t just ignore this," Abby insisted, her voice laced with concern. "You need to get your hand treated. It’s bleeding too much."
Remo tried to wave off her worry with a nonchalant smile, but Abby could see the strain in his eyes. "It’s not a big deal, Abby. I’ve had worse."
Her eyes narrowed, Abby took hold of Remo’s uninjured hand and guided him towards a nearby bench. "Sit down. We’re not leaving until someone looks at that hand of yours."
Reluctantly, Remo complied, wincing slightly as he settled on the bench. Abby reached into her bag, searching for anything that could be used as a makeshift bandage. She found a clean cloth and pressed it against Remo’s bleeding hand, her touch gentle yet determined.
"I can’t believe you blocked a knife with your hand," Abby murmured, a mix of awe and worry in her eyes. "What were you thinking?"
Remo’s gaze softened as he met Abby’s concerned look. "I wasn’t thinking about anything except keeping you safe, Abby."
Abby sighed, a knot of gratitude and worry tightening in her chest. "You’ve done enough, Remo. Now, let someone take care of you for a change."
Just then, a nurse passing by noticed the commotion and rushed over. "What happened here? Is someone injured?"
Abby glanced at Remo before explaining, "He blocked a knife with his hand. We need someone to look at it."
The nurse’s eyes widened in shock, but she quickly composed herself. "Alright, let’s get him to the ER. We’ll take care of that hand."
Abby assisted Remo to his feet, supporting him as they made their way to the emergency room. As they entered, Abby couldn’t shake the feeling of gratitude for the man who had selflessly protected her, even if it meant sacrificing his own well-being.
