Chapter 51: Hospital visit

The sterile scent of antiseptic lingered in the air as Abby paced back and forth in the dimly lit waiting room. Her heart raced like a marathon runner, each beat echoing in her ears as she tried to quell the rising tide of nerves threatening to overwhelm her. Remo stood by her side, a pillar of strength in the storm of emotions raging within her. The moment they had woken up today, she had asked him to take her to see her father. Now that she was here she was a nervous wreck.

Abby’s hands trembled as she wrung them together, her mind awash with a thousand worries and regrets. She hadn’t seen her father in a month, a month filled with longing and sorrow, a month stolen by her uncle’s ironclad grip. But now, as she stood on the precipice of facing him again, her resolve faltered, her courage waning in the face of uncertainty.

Remo’s steady gaze held her, his presence a balm to her frayed nerves. His voice, soft yet firm, cut through the chaos swirling in her mind.

"Abby, breathe. We’re in this together. You’re not alone." Remo said gently.

Abby nodded, albeit hesitantly, drawing strength from his words. She closed her eyes, inhaling deeply, willing herself to find the calm within the storm.

Her voice quivered, "I’m just... scared, Remo. What if... what if he doesn’t want to see me?"

Her voice trailed off, the fear in her eyes laid bare for Remo to see. But he shook his head, his expression unwavering.

"He’s your father, Abby. No matter what has happened, he loves you. He wants to see you."

Abby’s lips trembled, a silent prayer whispered on her breath as she clung to Remo’s words like a lifeline. With a deep breath, she straightened her shoulders, steeling herself for what lay ahead.

Together, they approached the hospital nurse stationed at the front desk, Abby’s heart pounding like a drumbeat in her chest. The nurse looked up, her eyes kind but guarded, a silent sentinel to the pain and suffering that lingered within these walls.

Abby’s voice trembled, "I-I’m here to see my father. His name is...Charles Falcone."

The nurse’s fingers danced across the keyboard, her gaze flickering with recognition as she processed the information.

With a voice gentle but apologetic voice, she said, "I’m sorry, dear. But I can’t allow you to see Mr. Falcone at this time."

Abby’s heart plummeted, her hopes dashed against the jagged rocks of reality. She felt the weight of disappointment settle heavy in her chest, crushing her spirit beneath its oppressive burden.

Abby’s voice trembled , disbelief etched on her face,"B-but why? He’s my father. I need to see him."

The nurse offered a sympathetic smile, her eyes filled with compassion yet bound by duty.

"I understand, but your uncle, Mr. Harrison who has the power of attorney, has instructed us not to allow any visitors at this time. I’m truly sorry."

Abby’s mind reeled, the realization sinking in like a stone sinking to the depths of the ocean. Her uncle, the very man who had kept her from her father’s side, now wielded his authority like a weapon, keeping her at bay even in her father’s final moments.

Tears threatened to spill from Abby’s eyes, her voice choked with emotion as she turned to Remo, desperation etched in every line of her face.

With her voice quivering, she pleaded, "Remo, please... there has to be something we can do. I can’t lose him like this, not without saying goodbye."

Remo’s jaw clenched, his gaze steely as he met Abby’s tear-filled eyes. He hated seeing her cry. It was like someone had pierced his heart with a knife.

He had investigated the person who owned the hospital and fortunately his son was an acquaintance of his.

"I will handle it. Shsss...." He said gently, wiping the tears from her face.

Remo pulled out his phone and dialed a number with swift precision. After a moment, the call connected.

"Victor. It’s Alfonso."

Victor, the hospital owner’s son, picked up the call, his face palling at the sound of Remo’s voice.

"Al-Alfonso, to what do I owe this honor?"

"I’m at your hospital. My wife’s father was admitted, and your staff is refusing her entry. Explain."

Victor’s fingers trembled slightly as he grasped for an explanation.

"Wi—wife—Alfonso, I... I apologize. It’s a misunderstanding. I’ll personally ensure it’s rectified immediately." He stammered.

Remo’s gaze pierced at the nurse, his silence a chilling reminder of his power.

"See that you do, Victor. And swiftly." He said hanging up the call.

The nurse, sensing the storm brewing, fidgeted nervously. Before she could say anything a nervous man rushed into the waiting room, a sweat glistening on his brow. Remo’s steely gaze met his, sending shivers down his spine.

"Mr. Al-fonso?" He asked, his voice shaking.

Remo nodded just in response.

"I’m the medical director. I’m truly sorry. I just received a call to assist you on whatever you need, we’ve resolved the issue. Your wife can see her father now."

The medical director turned to the nurse glaring at her.

"You! How dare you deny them access? Apologize to them."

The nurse, taken aback by the sudden turn of events, stammered out an apology, her eyes downcast in shame.

"I’m-I’m sorry Sir."

Remo’s cold gaze bore into her, his presence like a force of nature demanding obedience.

Remo’s voice cut through the tense air like a knife, his words sharp and commanding, "Apologize to my wife, and ensure this never happens again."

The nurse nodded frantically, her voice barely above a whisper as she uttered her apology, her words tinged with remorse.

"I’m sorry Madam."

Abby nodded slightly in reply, her heart fluttering with a glimmer of hope as Remo’s grip on her hand tightened, his silent reassurance grounding her in the tumultuous sea of emotions.

With a nod of acknowledgment, Remo turned his attention to the medical director, his eyes piercing through the man’s facade of authority.

"Thank you for your swift action," Remo said, his voice betraying none of the turmoil raging beneath the surface. "But make no mistake, any further obstacles, and there will be consequences."

The medical director swallowed hard, the weight of Remo’s words bearing down on him like a leaden cloak. He nodded vigorously, his resolve faltering under the weight of Remo’s power.

"Alright Sir. Please right this way. I will lead you to his room. "
