Chapter 49: Embarrassing
As the car sped down the winding road, Remo couldn’t help but steal glances at Abby sitting next to him. The soft glow of the moon illuminated her features, casting a delicate shadow over her face. Tony’s steady driving provided the perfect backdrop for Remo to admire Abby’s beauty without being too conspicuous.
Abby fidgets with the corner of her book, stealing glances at Remo whenever she thinks he’s not looking.
Every time their eyes met, Abby’s cheeks would flush with a rosy hue, and she would quickly avert her gaze, a shy smile playing on her lips. Remo found her bashfulness endearing, and it only fueled his desire to be closer to her
"So what are you reading?" Remo asked, gesturing to her book.
Abby shrugged, "Just a guide to capture a man’s heart."
Remo’s eyebrows raised in amusement. "Hmmm, planning to capture any man’s heart?" he asked, his lips curling into a smirk, his eyes twinkling mischievously.
Abby chuckled softly, her laughter a melodic sound in the quiet of the car. "Maybe," she teased, her tone playful yet tinged with sincerity.
Remo leaned back in his seat, a grin spreading across his face. "Well, any man would be lucky to have his heart captured by you," he said, his voice gentle yet filled with admiration.
Abby’s cheeks flushed even deeper at his words, her heart fluttering in her chest. She glanced out the window, trying to hide the effect his compliment had on her. "Thanks," she murmured, her voice barely above a whisper
Yet, deep down, she harbored a silent longing—her heart yearning to capture the very heart that spoke those words, even though she knew it wasn’t going to be easy.
Tony glances at them in the rearview mirror, a knowing smile tugging at the corners of his lips. He adjusts the volume of the radio, filling the car with soft melodies that blend seamlessly with the quiet intimacy of the moment
As the night wore on, Abby began to tire, her eyelids growing heavy with sleep. Remo watched as her head drooped, threatening to slump forward. Without a second thought, he gently placed his arm around her shoulders, drawing her closer to him. She nestled against his side, finding comfort in his warmth.
Their conversation dwindled into a comfortable silence, the rhythmic hum of the car lulling Abby into a peaceful slumber. Remo glanced down at her sleeping form, marveling at her innocence and vulnerability. He couldn’t resist the urge to brush a stray lock of hair from her forehead, his touch light as a feather.
A few hours later, the car came to a gentle stop, and Remo tenderly shook Abby awake.
Abby’s eyes fluttered open, blinking sleepily as she adjusted to the dim light filtering through the car windows. Confusion clouded her features for a moment before she realized where she was and what had transpired during the journey.
Her cheeks flushed with a mixture of panic and embarrassment as she realized she had been sleeping soundly against Remo’s shoulder the entire time. She scrambled to sit up straight, her heart pounding with mortification.
"Oh my goodness, I’m so sorry," she stammered, her voice tinged with embarrassment. "I didn’t mean to fall asleep on you like that."
Remo’s gentle smile softened the edges of her anxiety. "Don’t worry about it, Abby," he reassured her, his voice filled with understanding. "It’s been a long trip, and we all needed some rest."
Abby’s panic escalated when she noticed something else. Her gaze shifted downward, and her eyes widened in mortification. "Oh no," she muttered, her cheeks now a deeper shade of red.
"I-I’m so sorry," she stammered, her voice barely above a whisper.
Confused, Remo looked down to see a small drool stain on his shirt where Abby had rested her head. He couldn’t help but grin, finding the situation more amusing than awkward. "It’s okay, Abby. It happens," he reassured her, trying to alleviate her embarrassment.
Abby’s embarrassment intensified, and she stammered, "I can’t believe I drooled on you. I’m so sorry, Remo." Her attempts to wipe away the evidence only made her blush deepen
"God this is so embarrassing ."
As Remo’s laughter resonated in the confined space of the car, Abby couldn’t help but feel a twinge of relief. His understanding demeanor and the playful glint in his eyes eased the weight of embarrassment that had settled on her shoulders.
He reached out to gently cup her cheek, his touch tender and reassuring.
"It’s okay, Abby," he said softly, his eyes filled with warmth. "It’s just a shirt. Besides, it’s a small price to pay for the privilege of having you sleep on my shoulder."
Their eyes met, and for a fleeting moment, time seemed to slow. In that shared gaze, unspoken feelings lingered
Abby felt her heart fluttering in her chest, her breath catching in her throat as she gazed into Remo’s deep, soulless eyes.
Remo’s expression mirrored Abby’s, his heart racing as he lost himself in the depths of her gaze. There was something undeniably magnetic about her, something that drew him in like a moth to a flame.
But just as the tension reached its peak, the spell was broken by the sound of Tony opening the car door behind them. The sudden interruption jolted Abby back to reality, and she blushed furiously, feeling exposed under Tony’s watchful gaze.
"Sorry to interrupt, folks," Tony said with a knowing smile, his eyes twinkling with mischief. "But we should probably head inside."
Abby nodded, her cheeks still flushed with embarrassment as she tore her gaze away from Remo’s. She couldn’t shake the feeling of vulnerability that lingered in the air, the raw intensity of their unspoken attraction still hanging between them like a delicate thread.
As they stepped out of the car Abby stole one last glance at Remo, her heart fluttering with a mixture of longing and uncertainty. Little did she know, Remo’s thoughts mirrored her own, his mind consumed by the unspoken promise of what could be.
