Chapter 45: Protect her

Chapter 45: Protect her

Tony entered Remo’s office, his demeanor tense with anticipation. Remo sat behind his imposing desk, his expression unreadable as he gestured for Tony to begin. He had come to his casino after spending some time with Abby during the day to sign some documents before they left the city.

"Boss, I’ve got some updates on the Harrison situation," Tony began, his voice steady despite the weight of the information he carried. "They’ve been scouring the city for Abby, your wife, and we’ve been successful in covering her tracks so far."

Remo’s jaw tightened at the mention of Abby, his wife, a flicker of concern crossing his features before being replaced by a steely resolve. He had been tirelessly working to protect her, to shield her from the clutches of her abusive family, and he would stop at nothing to ensure her safety.

Tony continued, his voice low and measured as he relayed the findings about Abby’s family, the Harrisons. "They’ve been abusing her, boss. Physically, emotionally... It’s a nightmare. And that’s not all. They’re drowning in gambling debt, clinging to Abby as their last hope to recover what’s left of their fortune."

Remo’s fists clenched at his sides, his knuckles turning white with suppressed rage. The thought of Abby suffering at the hands of her own family ignited a fire within him, a primal urge to seek justice for the woman he has come to care about.

He didn’t want to admit it but he has grown to care deeply for his wife these past few days.

The image of Abby, innocent and vulnerable, suffering at the hands of her own family, ignited a fierce sense of protectiveness in him, a primal instinct to shield her from harm.

His heart, hardened by years of betrayal and loss, had been an impenetrable fortress until she came along. His wife, shy and unassuming, had wormed her way past his defenses, thawing the icy barriers around his heart with her quiet strength and unwavering kindness.

He wasn’t supposed to feel anything for her, not in this world of deception and deceit. Their marriage was a facade, a charade meant to deceive her family for her inheritance but despite his best efforts to remain detached, he found himself caring for her in ways he never thought possible.

The memory of Bella, his beloved lost to him forever, lingered like a ghost in the recesses of his mind. He had thought that he would never feel again, that the numbness that enveloped him would be his constant companion until the end of his days. And then she had come into his life, a beacon of light in the darkness, stirring emotions long thought dormant.

He couldn’t deny the warmth that bloomed within him whenever he was near her, the way her presence filled the emptiness in his soul with a flicker of hope. But with that hope came fear, the fear of losing her, of exposing her to the dangers that lurked in their world.

As Remo grappled with his conflicting emotions, a sense of determination settled over him like a shroud. He would protect her, no matter the cost. He would shield her from the darkness that threatened to engulf them both, even if it meant sacrificing his own happiness in the process.

"They think they can use her, manipulate her for their own gain," Tony continued, his voice tinged with disgust. "But we won’t let them, boss. We’ll protect Abby, no matter the cost."

A dangerous glint sparked in Remo’s eyes, a silent promise of retribution for those who had dared to harm his wife. The air crackled with tension as he rose from his seat, his presence commanding and formidable.

"Find out everything you can about the Harrisons," Remo ordered, his voice a low growl that reverberated through the room. "Their weaknesses, their vulnerabilities... I want to know it all. And then we’ll show them what happens when they mess with what is mine."

Tony nodded, a sense of urgency driving him forward as he prepared to delve deeper into the dark underbelly of the Harrison empire.

"Alright boss. I have already purchased the house and made arrangements for your departure tonight. Your brother Matteo wants to meet you before you go. He said he has been calling you but you’ve been ignoring his calls," Tony relayed, his tone tinged with concern.

Remo sighed heavily, the weight of his brother’s worry pressing down on him like a suffocating blanket. He knew all too well why Matteo had been trying to reach him. After witnessing the depths of Remo’s capacity for violence, Matteo had been relentless in his efforts to ensure his brother’s well-being.

He didn’t blame Matteo for his concern; in fact, Remo shared the same apprehension about himself. The darkness that lurked within him, the unpredictable fury that lay dormant until provoked, was a source of constant unease, even for Remo himself.

"I will call him. Check up on Abby if she would need anything else before we go. I need to finish an errand before we leave," Remo instructed, his voice steady despite the turmoil roiling beneath the surface.

"Alright Boss," Tony acknowledged, his departure leaving Remo alone in the dimly lit confines of his office.

With a heavy heart, Remo dialed Matteo’s number, steeling himself for the inevitable confrontation that awaited him. As the phone rang, each tone echoing in the cavernous silence of the room, Remo’s thoughts drifted to his family. He hates to admit it but he misses them. Especially Beatrix, his sister. At least she had two men who adored her to protect her and she has forgotten about him. Remo pouted.

If he knew they were going to steal his sister and keep her busy he would have beaten Rhys more when he got the chance. Such a shame. Maybe he should challenge them to a fight when he meets them.

After several rings, Matteo finally answered the phone, his voice tight with worry and frustration. "Remo, where have you been? I’ve been trying to reach you for days. Are you alright?"
