Chapter 36: Dreams and Guilt
Abigail sighed dreamily. "I hope so. But for now, I’m just grateful to have you as my partner in crime for movie nights and all the silly moments."
Izabella looked at Abigail with a playful grin, nudging her gently. "Oh, absolutely. But I hope he adds a bit of originality to those cheesy lines."
Abigail pretended to ponder, placing a finger on her chin. "Hmm, you mean like, ’Are you made of copper and tellurium? Because you’re Cu-Te.’"
They both burst into laughter, holding their stomachs as tears of mirth welled up in their eyes. The absurdity of the line only made it funnier.
Izabella chuckled, "Okay, okay, maybe not that one. But hey, you never know what the future holds."
Izabella gave her sister a heartfelt squeeze. "You know I’ll always be here for you, whether it’s for movie nights, cheesy line discussions, or anything else."
They both shared a warm, sisterly smile as the fairy lights continued to cast a soft, magical glow around them.
"I know but you’re leaving tomorrow. " Abigail pouted.
Izabella’s lips curled up, "Distance isn’t a problem love, I will fly across the galaxies and oceans if you need me."
Abigail chuckled, "I know darling, my sweetest darling."As the room filled with warmth and affection, they shared a quiet moment, lost in the bond that only sisters could share. The hum of the movie’s end credit music played softly in the background, a soothing backdrop to their conversation.
Izabella brushed a strand of hair from Abigail’s face. "Remember the time we tried to make our own rom-com script?"
Abigail’s eyes lit up with nostalgia. "Oh, how could I forget? Our leading man was a clumsy astronaut who had a crush on a mermaid scientist."
They both burst into laughter, reminiscing about their creative yet utterly hilarious attempts to craft a romantic story. Their laughter was infectious, filling the room with a sense of joy and companionship
Izabella leaned in, whispering dramatically, "And in the end, they realized that love was the gravity that kept their hearts intertwined across the universe."
Abigail held her hand to her chest, feigning sentimentality. "Oh, the cheesiness! It’s too much to handle!"
Amidst their laughter and shared memories, Izabella’s expression shifted to a more serious tone. She looked at Abigail with a thoughtful gaze and asked, "Abby, what would you do if we both fell in love with the same man?"
"I don’t know really but what I know is your happiness is more important to me."
In a blink, Abigail found herself standing at the foot of a towering mountain, its snow-covered peaks reaching for the sky. The air was crisp, and the vast landscape unfolded before her in breathtaking majesty.
In this new scene, Izabella appeared beside her, the mountain a long shadow over their conversation. The once serene atmosphere now carried a palpable tension.
Izabella’s eyes narrowed as she confronted Abigail. "Why did you lie, Abby? You took him from me. How could you betray our sisterly bond?" Her words echoed against the mountainous terrain.
Abigail’s heart raced, caught off guard by the sudden change. "Izzy, I would never do that to you. I cherish our bond, and your happiness means the world to me," she replied, trying to diffuse the tension.
Izabella’s expression remained stern. "You’re lying! I trusted you, and you stole him away. I won’t let you get away with this!" With those words, she forcefully pushed Abigail, sending her tumbling down a steep slope.
"No!" she gasped, her eyes blinking open as she tried to pull herself from sleep, feeling them burn and sting from the tears in them.
Her chest was heaving as she sucked in sharp breaths, darting her eyes around the room frantically as she swallowed the dry feeling in her throat and tried to figure out where she was.
Her blurry eyes tried to adjust as she squinted around the room, bringing her hands up to wipe her eyes.
She looked around and saw that she was alone on the bed.
Taking a deep breath, Abby sat up.
"It’s a dream....just a dream."

Abby stood in the shower, feeling like the water droplets were as heavy as her thoughts. Guilt stuck to her like an unwelcome shadow, making her chest ache. The sound of water hitting the tiles couldn’t drown out the strong emotions inside her.
She couldn’t avoid the truth – she had fallen for her late best friend’s fiancé, and it felt wrong and painful. Each droplet reflected the conflict in her heart, a mix of longing and regret. Her hands shook as she tried to wash away the emotional mess, but the guilt stayed like a stubborn stain.
As the water kept pouring, Abby couldn’t hold back her feelings any longer. The weight of guilt, sorrow, and tangled love overwhelmed her. She slowly sank to the cold shower floor, the tiles offering a hard surface against her trembling body.
Tears mixed with water streamed down her face as she curled up, trying to quiet the sobs that echoed in the small space. Abby held onto her heart, as if trying to physically contain the emotional storm inside her.
She knew she was walking a dangerous tightrope spending time with Remo, so she decided to end things before she slipped and fell, doing something she couldn’t come back from.
She never had the chance to be in love or come close to anything like it, but she had the most nagging suspicion that Remo Quinn irrevocably became part of her soul the first day she looked into his eyes. However, she knew he would never love her. The kind of love he had for Izzy was something she could never compete with, and like anyone who couldn’t lose what little they had, she picked her battles, and this wasn’t one of them. She longed for her happily-ever-afters and he wouldn’t give it to her.
As Abby’s tears mixed with the shower water, a sudden and alarming smell of something burning abruptly interrupted her crying session. Panic seized her, cutting through the emotional turmoil. Without a second thought, she hastily wrapped herself in a fluffy towel, leaving behind the echoes of her sobs in the bathroom.
As she rushed out, the scent of burning intensified, guiding her toward the source. The kitchen door swung open where an eerie glow flickered from the stove. Remo stood in front of it, seemingly engrossed in a YouTube video on his phone. The kitchen, however, told a different story - smoke curled around the room, hinting at a culinary disaster.
"Remo, what’s going on?" Abby asked, her voice a mix of confusion and concern .
He turned, a guilty expression playing on his face. "Hey, love-"
His sentence cut off, and his brows furrowed as his eyes scanned her face, concerned replacing the casual expression. "Are you okay?" he inquired
She cast her eyes down to the ground, mentally berating herself and feeling the familiar discomfort creeping through her insides. It must have been obvious that she had been crying; What would she tell him? She had a terrible dream about Izabella and guilt was consuming her?
She couldn’t tell him that. She was a bad person...
